How many of you guys legitmitely think Kruezer can make an elite forward option. I personaly believe he is better suited to the ruck, but after watching jacobs today we would be very very silly to let him go.

When he is 'ready' though what do we do about the jacobs/hampson predicament?

Hopefully his performance today raises his stocks a little.
He was absolutely superb today i thought, outplaying mumford quite considerably with 44 hit outs.
Those dick heads from S.A better have taken notice

I hope we change our minds and keep him. He was just so good today, and is getting better all the time. Wouldn't mind seeing Kruezer and Hendo as the 2 KP forwards. We could then push Waite back as an extra defensive tall. No doubt the MC will be going through all these different scenarios over the next few weeks. Jacob's outstanding performance today does change things.

He did kick 40 or so goals at under 18 level, didn't he? He's already a big boy but once he matures I reckon he'll be more than handy up forward.

That said, he's one of the most promising young ruckmen in the game. Already more than capable of holding his own. Guess it depends on how Warnock and Jacobs develop.
 
Warnock, Kreuzer and Jacobs clearly our best ruckmen. Jacobs dominated one of the best ruckmen in the league in a high pressure final, should be doing everything we can not to trade him! I know hampson will be something special if he comes good, but jacobs is still very young with proven experience. Warnock i think will be just as good as Kreuzer, both supremely talented, but Warnock is the better tap ruckman while Kreuze's 2nd and 3rd efforts make him invaluable.

If people can't see that Warnock and Jacobs are our best tap ruckmen, then you're all getting high off the Hampson love being bandied around by some on here. We can't afford to let Sauce go, the kid will be AA if given the chance!

If he stays in the ruck, we'll end up with the next Cox.

If we try and create a forward out of him, he'll end up like Kosi.

I honestly believe with what Warnock showed in the final when he was given a chance in the forward line and with Kreuzer's natural ability (at an underage level) to kick goals that I'd play Kreuzer, Warnock and Jacobs in the same team.

Warnock's a hard bugger to stop simply because of his height but he's a skillful player which makes him all that much harder. If he could work on his forward play and become a legitimate forward resting ruckman a trio of Kreuzer - Warnock - Jacobs would be very impressive.

If they trade Jacobs then Hampson can easily step in and may offer a tad more versatility than what Jacobs can albeit he's nowhere near as good a ruckman as Jacobs.

We already have the small forwards that will constantly be dangerous. Henderson locks down one of the key forward slots. You play Kreuzer at the other one with him occasionally going into the ruck if matchups demand it while Warnock and Jacobs/Hampson share the bulk of the ruck duties with one of them resting forward and presenting a third option for the midfield.

This in itself would free Waite to play down back.

Proposed forward line: Betts - Kreuzer - Garlett / Yarran - Henderson - (Walker or midfield rotation or resting ruck with Garlett moving to the flank)

Proposed backline: Gibbs - Waite - Bower / Russell - Jamison - Armfield

FF: Betts - Kreuzer - Garlett
HF: Yarran - Henderson - Walker
C: Simpson - McLean - Lucas
HB: Gibbs - Waite - Bower
FB: Russell - Jamison - Armfield
RU: Warnock - Judd - Murphy
IC: Joseph (midfield rotation) - Scotland (flanker & midfield rotation) - Davies (defensive rotation) - Jacobs (ruck rotation)

Looks pretty damaging to me.

Question for you "golden oldies"... Very different styled players, I understand, but is there any credence in the comparison of Kreuzer becoming a forward/ruck in the vein of John Nichols?? I only ask because it was something my eighty six year old (seventy two year CFC member) uncle said to me earlier today when we discussed this very subject.
 
Kreuzer is a gifted #1 pick who can play anywhere. Simon Madden played as a ruckman and still managed to chalk up over 500 goals.

Let's not pigeon-hole Kreuzer too early - even the staff are talking up his prospects.
 
It would take a conscious decision to develop Kreuzer as a forward in my view. He's quick for a ruckman - but not for a forward. He'd need to develop his acceleration and explosive power, plus upper body strength. And learn the game a forward has to play. All of that is possible, but it's a bit unclear as to what we'd end up with. On the ruck path he's on, it's very clear we're going to end up with a gem.

Re: Jacobs vs Hampson... if we keep them, then good, it's great they're all showing something. If we choose to trade one, it's a good thing that Jacobs just tore a final to shreds. We're too used to trading things of no value (Wiggins and a 3rd for Pav?) and hoping for something in return. If Jacobs' stocks went way up, or Hampson's potential is there for all to see, they're worth all the more *IF* we decide to trade them.
 
Next year playing Kreuzer as a forward is an idea I'd be fully supportive of. Coming back from a full knee reco as a 21 year old ruckman would not be easy and we shouldn't rush him back into that role.

Start him up forward and as his confidence grows back, gradually ease him back into the role that he's so suited to - the roaming ruckman/extra midfielder.

I think we are lured into the idea of Kreuz playing as a permanent forward because he's tall, can take a good grab and can kick a bag of goals. I'd love to see him play forward but he's just not suited to that role.

He's far more valuable to us as a ruckman roaming the ground and pushing forward. And that's exactly the role I hope to see him return to when he resumes playing in 2011.

Kreuzer just doesn't have the explosiveness to burst away on a lead from his defender. I love the fact that he's an EXCELLENT contested mark, which is a huge plus in the forward line, but i don't know if he has the ability to break away from his opponent and burn him for foot speed.
 
I'd look at Jolly and Hille as examples of ruckmen who are dangerous when they slip forward, and that's what I'd hope Kreuzer can continue to be. But neither would do well as a permanent forward, and nor would Kreuz, unless he spends the next two preseasons doing nothing but repeat sprints and bench press.

Madden did play not much short of 400 games to get those goals and was a ruckman, not a forward.

Kreuzer is a ruckman, not a forward. He's best value to us and to him is there. Waite and Hendo have established themselvesas our KP forwards.
 
In my opinion, the solution is fairly simple:

Warnock first ruck.

Kreuzer ruck rover.

Jacobs bench.

Hampson full forward or Bullants.

Kreuzer's tackling, body work in close and 1%ers make him what is essentially a 200cm inside midfielder, who covers the ground very well and can take a strong mark. I know it would be an unusual move, but I really think Kreuzer's greatest value is inside the packs. He and Ellard would complement each other perfectly...

I like your thinking.

I threw this up as an idea in another thread a while back.

Big Matty was our 2nd-most prolific tackler at the time of his injury, and is a contested ball maniac. Why couldn't he play rover?
