Give Tippett time and he'll be a star, bulk him up and he'll push off his defenders in no time.

I know this suggestion will be recieved by howls of protest but is he what we need?

We need a dominant forward. He is not that. Moran can be, but Tippett needs more work to even get to Moran's level. He is a capable Ruck, but Griffin is better.

If we were to trade Tippett we would get value for him. If we want to be active and trade for a forward or gun midfielder he is the kind of player that other teams want.

We cant expect to get good players in trade period if we only offer our dregs.

Thoughts??
I have reported your post, enjoy your ban.

Incidently, I believe Tippett has the tools to be a far superior forward to Moran (I do like Moran down there though), but he needs another tall forward down there with him, otherwise he's just going to get double-teamed every time we try to go to him.

Yes. And , if the forwards we have there already, decide to lead sometimes and leave him alone with one or two defenders, he would do much better.
One very frustrating thing I saw yesterday was how very few leads there were from our forwards. They all waited in the 35m area until the player carrying the ball was near the 50m line. By then it was too late for a lead and the ball had to be bombed high. And when the ball was brought to ground, the only front and square players were Collingwood's. I mean, the only crumbing goals we got were from S. Stevens.:thumbsd:

Some people are suggesting Reilly.....Reilly>> Tippett

Cant beleive he was not in our 22 yesterday.

Mate you're losing more credibility with this 2nd post... Reilly has played about 100 games, Tippett is in his first year playing as a KPP often on the number 1 defender (ie Scarlett, Glass, Merrit etc). KP players always take longer.

Does Tippett actually have the ability to learn to be a key forward.

After he got towled up by Fletcher one would of thought that he would of learnt to beat a defender he has to move, ie make a lead.

Since he has come back into the side the last two weeks he does not move from his spot. He stands and hopes to outmuscles the three guys haging off of him.

Moran naturally does this, leads. Tippett does not. Tippett's value in our side is as a Ruckman where he is quite good. Tippett will be 22 nearly 23 next year, and has not improved at all this year as a key forward. Those who went, not saw on TV, tell me how many times he lead from the square on Saturday. Or even provided a one on one contest???

I say trade him whilst he has value, as I dont believe he is the player we need.

Moran is our man to build a forward line around.

You are completely CRAZY.
How many years have we been waiting to get a good big forward.
Kurt should be put on a longgggg contract.

Completely off topic, but is dividing the team up into Forwards, Midfielders and Defenders the right way to go about things? The performances and functioning of each of these areas are so reliant on the others. Should they be broken down in this way?

The Forwards cannot do their thing unless the midfield are providing adequate supply. The Midfield cannot deliver the ball properly unless the Forwards are presenting well. The Defenders cannot restrict scoring unless the Midfield are pressuring the opposition. The Midfield cannot move the ball quickly unless the Defenders are providing rebound. Etc.

Thinking out loud here, but wouldn't it make more sense to divide the coaching roles up into:
Stoppages
Kick ins (ours and theirs)
Defensive Pressure
Ball Movement
Goal Kicking

All players are involved in stoppages at various stages. All players are involved in kick ins. All players have a responsibility to provide defensive pressure. Etc.

Paul Hamilton. He was our defence coach for two years then switched to the forward line.

That was the point I though...hmmmm maybe we don't want to score?

An ex defensive coach to a forward coach? I thought it was wierd.

I would like to see us go a splurge of getting the masiah of all forward coaches in here, a plugga or someone.

With Walker, Sellar, Tippett all developing, maybe an actualy forward would be a good forward coach.

And plugga could show them how to kill people on the field and eat pies at half time.

Scott Stevens has to go from group to group.

He gets about 35% of each meeting.

But ina ll seriousness, yeh I think dividing them up is good.

They also have team discussions and coaching.

It's just a specialist view. Or in our case a defence coach for all areas ;)

Thought so - which is a shame, because I rate him, but our forward line does not know how to play as a cohesive unit.

Bassett for Forward Line Coach.

Bassett for defensive coach in 1-2 years.

Now we need an actual forward to coach our forward line.

Pay the $$$ crows.

Throw some names out...

Carey?

I can't think of too many gun ex-forwards who aren't already aligned to Clubs (Dunstall, Sticks), aren't flat out with work committments (Lynch), or who are just plain not interested (Plugga).

He's been there since Craig took over hasn't he?

Since then our forward line has never really hit its straps, even with the other forward line coach before Hamilton.

Hard part for us is one that lives in SA.......

Look, i'd be happy with w***er wayne back at the crows because if anyone can show sellar how to play chf, he can.

Mods as a part timer, just to work on timing leads, show Tails, Sellar and Tip how and when to go.

working with the s.a institute of sport craigy often stated 'you cant polish a t*urd'

we didnt have any elite/very good players in our forward line on the weekend. the coach can only do so much with what he has (ie the ayres 'legacy'. btw, no wonder cats fans hated ayres for many yrs after he left their list in a similarly depleted state to what craigy picked up in mid 2004)

at least with the last 2 drafts/trading we have seemingly better junior talls coming through than we have had for over a decade

We have the juniors there now, we need the best coaches to develope them.

I think the idea of trading Tippett could have some merit but you'd face a lot of angry supporters in my opinion. Whilst I think Tippett still got a long way to go to get to an AFL consistent forward, I think basing your hopes on Moran would be insanity. Just an outsiders view, but he looks like a deer in headlights whenever he gets the ball - especially on Saturday.

I'd say the following;

- Not knowing where to lead.
- Not knowing when to lead.
- Not knowing how to create space for yourself.
- Not knowing how to create space for others.
- Not realising that not everyone needs to go up for the mark.

Are coaching issues.

listen all you dicks that have criticized the guy who dared to offer an alternative view. give him/her a break, it is only a suggestion. christ we complain when the warfies carry on like that, some of you guys arnt much better. loosen up.
p.s. its a prick of an idea.
