Again that’s the legality.

If there’s a situation in which a 17 year old (or any civilian) needs to go into that requires an assault rifle, then that kid shouldn’t go in.

End of. It’s stupidity.

But he’s America’s gun-totin’ son. So he’s up high on the ladder.
In a criminal case, the legality is key, I would have thought, as to the decision.

There seems to be this weird idea that rioters get to just smash up towns, bash innocent citizens, burn buildings and other assets, you name it but if some young men decide, noting that cops are doing nothing, to protect property then they’re “looking for trouble” and are “vigilante”.

And if they’re occupied in North Queensland should we just capitulate? Or resist?

Invoke the Brisbane Line proposal from WW2.

Nah but to be serious, probabilistically speaking I feel safer that we DON'T all have guns on the off chance we need to form a resistance against some possible invasion. Sure, there's an argument for it, the Swiss have gone that way, but I'm happy we haven't.

Jury have gone home.

Mistrial with prejudice remains on the table (meaning a mistrial that cannot be retried.......so Defendant walks).

I suspect that in the case of a hung jury, the judge will grant that motion but he'd prefer an acquittal.

It’s almost as though I know what I’m talking about.

Yes, that held back piece of evidence was extremely odd, and a serious breach, I was wondering why it wssn't highlighted/punished more at the time. Can the Judge revert back to that point though after the jury decision?

There certainly has been some bow stretching in this thread. Mostly by a certain Robin Hood and his Merry Men. Been a busy few days for them, much stretching of bows. Good times.
Not sure what you’re mad about now.

I think the jury's long deliberation may augur well for the prosecution. A clean cut case would not take too long. Jurors going home will open them up to outside opinion, and perhaps concerns of riotous repercussions if KR is found innocent. There are several odd things about this trial this is just one of them.

Yeah weird, i'd rather someone try to be a hero than a villain.

The campaigner murdered 2 people.

noting that cops are doing nothing
It's the over-policing and control policing that caused the whole mess in the first place. People can point to the individual police shooting victim as the only and sole spark for this, but that's wrong. It's generations of treatment as the object of control that sees this simmering away, ready for a spark.

The same impulse that sees the "don't tread on me" flag wavers go marching (and expect the police to be on their side - white conservatives are above the leftists and blacks, don't you know) is the impulse that sees the people at the bottom of the hierarchy kick off. And then a fair wedge of people look around amazed, expressing opinions like "SEE? THE BLMs NEED TO BE CONTROLLED!"

Putting a teenager with an assault rifle in the middle of it is a recipe for disaster, not a shining beacon of community service for us all to look up to.

He'll get off.

Probably depends on the skin colour of the rioters. And the shooters.

Really there should be even more focus on the police. Though it cant be easy. They are attacked from all sides except when thosr sides decide they need the police.
