I got a feeling if Cognelio wanted out of GWS, it will be Hawthorn he'll want to go to. Home sickness isn't a concern anymore for him, and I don't think he'd leave without a flag first. If GWS believed he was going to leave as a free agent in 2019, they'd trade him in 2018 at his maximum trade value.

But without being rude why would he leave? He would get similar money as you guys don't overspend, he's very happy and playing with all his mates? It just wouldn't add up.

More likely a guy like Kelly who gets offered a grandfather type deal or a kid not quite making the best team like Kennedy.

Nah nothing rude about that at all mate. You are correct he is close to the GWS boys, he's also very close to O'Rourke and O'Meara. Actually went to O'Meara's comeback game against Essendon in the VFL and watched it with O'Rourke. Does this mean he'll leave GWS for Hawthorn? It is honestly a stretch to think so, and all it means is he wanted to be there for a mate for an important moment and nothing more. There just have been the odd whisper that Hawthorn are appealing to him if he was ever to leave GWS.

But if we don't spend next year's trade capital this year (e.g. our 2018 first rounder) and Whitfield doesn't get traded to us because GWS says come back to us in 12 months time and talk when he's out of contract, I wouldn't be surprised if we inquired about Cognelio instead.

Just realised the Hawks poster claiming to be ITK has nfi and cant even spell players names right. This website has some strong magnetic forces.
Yep you are right too lazy to look up how to spell his name. and to be clear, I am not in the know at all when it comes to Whitfield or Coniglio.

Agree with you, unless he wants to play in Melbourne.

GWS and Whitfield due to announce a 2yr extension, according to a poster on our board with good intel.
Cant believe we had to go to the extent of extending a contracted player just to try and silence crawf.

We must be pretty worried about people listening to him if this is true

It was cheaper than 4 million pairs of headphones.

Hasn't Whitfield been a disappointment? Pick one, very outside, neat player, but no game breaker. If he played for Melbourne he would be torn to shreds about his lack of impact. Hidden in Sydney.
I would have thought the giants would be happy to offload for something. They already have Scully as the outside runner who doesn't excel in the contested situations

You're heavily overrating how important friendship would be to most players. Tyson and Bugg are also in that little circle, does that make us equal favourites for Coniglio?

Now that really is rubbish

To some degree, because with pick 1 you always want a top player and Lachie is solid but complementary - but if you look at the top dozen of that draft it shows how bad it was in general.

But nah, this logic doesn't follow. GWS's system is predicated on those outside runners and Whitfield is a key player in it. They suffered when he was out earlier in the year. He's also increased his contested work noticeably throughout this year

When you consider the two father/sons (Viney & Daniher) and the two 17 y/o (Crouch & O,Meara) he really at best was selection #5

I agree to this to an extent, he ain't a match winner and he isn't the quality of other players in terms of elite status. He ain't a Dangerfield Martin a Shiel a Kelly etc, what he is, is elite at his role, as an outside gut running mid which is a desperate need at Hawthorn. If the number one pick status wasn't with Whitfield, he would be worth slightly more than what we achieved with Hill. The arousal of a number 1 pick inflates his price.
