Recommitted Lachie Whitfield [re-signed]

It is an area of need, that Breust would fill nicely. I just dont see a trade working. I dont think either player wants it, and we cant be pushing Lachie out the door. I dont think it's in your interests to push Bruest either.

You're probably right. But we are aggressive if last year is anything to go by, then anything is possible.

We have several areas which require attention. Our ruck tap work is shithouse and we probably need another quarterback style defender as Heath Shaw is in decline. Missing McGrath was a tragedy for us.

The tap ruckwork you can get by with, its your stoppage setup which may need the work. We won premierships with out a competent tap ruckman.
I noticed Shaws responsibility has somewhat decreased in terms of getting him loose, he plays more lock down....responsibility looks to have already been passed on to others.

Despite being contracted there has been speculation around Whitfield for a while...apparently with Kelly and Hopper signing, GWS will have to offload some contracted players to make space in the cap...in addition to Kennedy & Smith unless they're willing to stay for unders.

Hoping Whitfield could be someone 'gettable'...or some kids like Perryman & Himmelberg. Hopefully not just Griffen as a salary dump ;)

Only reason his name came up was the incident earlier in the year.
That and as a Giants player he wants to leave like everyone wants to leave the club. Supposedly. [emoji57]

Contracted and happy at the club. Club happy with him.

Why ship a talent that doesnt want to go?

In practice I doubt Whitfield. He got an outside mid spot nailed and is improving all the time.
Perryman and Himmelburg I dont know. Very promising signs with Perryman but small back spots are gonna be hard to get. Similar for Himmelburg he's shown flexibility when we needed him to this year, but it's pretty clear he's a tall defender at this stage. Patience might be required from both, but I think we'll want them as depth.

I'm just being hopeful...let me have this after the double blow today that Kelly and Hopper have signed :p

Our most reliable source on our board did say that with those 2 signings that GWS WILL be offloading at least 1 contracted player though...which has started the speculation. But it could end up just being off-loading Griffen to a club in a package for Kennedy for example, and in doing so they get Kennedy at a cheaper price than they would have otherwise.

As much as i wish Kelly signing is true, every week its some club has got him definitely.

So ill await the confirmation

What's this about Kelly signing?

Lol, do they've think a second round pick is going to be enough? Hahaha

Nah but Breust + Stratton might be... pretty sure most of our players are on the table this year barring the obvious ones, Mitchell, O'Meara, Burton, Rioli.

Brad Hill was traded for pick #23

I'd say both players should be valued at around the late teens pick 17-18-19.
I felt Brad Hill was a little unders.

Time will tell, if Hawthorn do make a play it will be with players as we have nothing else to offer.
Most clubs will accept finals hardened, premiership Hawthorn players to complement their list's which are currently in premiership windows. Adelaide, GWS etc

If you love him so much why are you trying so hard to move him?

I smell a used car salesman here.

I'm not trying to get rid of him, I'm saying it'd be a fair trade. If we were to go after Whitfield that's about what would get it done and something that would be palatable for me, but if we weren't a shot of getting Whitfield I'm more than happy to keep Breust.

It's only fair from your perspective.

From ours it's a rubbish deal we wouldn't wipe our collective arses with.

I reckon GWS need Frawley in the immediate term more than Breust.

No we need Ryan Burton. If you need Lachie Whitfield our need is Ryan Burton, he can offer us some athleticism down back and can swing forward and give us a multi faceted unpredictable forward line.

Hand over Burton and Whitfield is yours.

Sound ridiculous? Funny that.

My Frawley call had nothing to do with Lachie.
Burton for Lachie? If I were GWS, that's exactly the type of trade off I'd be after.

Quality player but not really an area of need for us, and we do kinda need Lachie. If a trade were possible it needs to be for something we need. Bear in mind Lachie was taken at pick 1 and has developed very well.

Yep, if the scuttlebutt is true that Whitfield is open to a move to the Hawks then it will be for something that GWS have highlighted as a need.

These aren't new conversations.
