Apologies for any inconvenience. We will try to find a replacement.
Most clubs will accept finals hardened, premiership Hawthorn players to complement their list's which are currently in premiership windows. Adelaide, GWS etc
Finals hardened?I'd say both players should be valued at around the late teens pick 17-18-19.
I felt Brad Hill was a little unders.
Time will tell, if Hawthorn do make a play it will be with players as we have nothing else to offer.

Is anyone talking Whitfield to Hawthorn other than Shane Crawford?

Someone on our board with a very good track record of info says that there have been discussions with GWS about Whitfield to Hawthorn.
It's not just Crawford.
that's the precedent GWS has set. pretty much why Bruest always gets brought up because other then him GWS would be better of holding tight.Pick 1/23 years old/required and contracted gun player = 2 x early 1st rounders.
That's an overly simplistic and naive way of looking at it.Mate, you need to be realistic.
You have absolutely no way of satisfying us with a deal even if the kid wanted to head back to Melbourne.

The reality is that if Whitfield decides he wants Hawthorn, Wright then goes to work on giving GWS what they want in return, very likely requiring other trades to take place, whether that be for future picks, players or whatever else is deemed necessary to get it done.

Future picks can't be traded 2 years in advance obviously.Hawthorn's 2019 first round pick.
There are multiple ways in which a trade could be done.Ok so let's indulge this fantasy.
How does he get his hands on an early first rounder this year to add to next years first rounder which probably isn't going to be that early given your late season form (something we are acutely aware of).
He's contracted so we would just hold him and if he wanted to go next year we'd get him to Melbourne and net a really early pick in a potential super draft.
Next years first round pick and Ben Stratton, there's plenty of ways to come up with currency.Mate, you need to be realistic.

Get that he supported Hawthorn and his old man was a Hawthorn man but there is fantasy and reality.

Geelong did it.Future picks can't be traded 2 years in advance obviously.
No, they traded a future pick two years in a row.Geelong did it.
Woops misread that as trading 2 future picks in consecutive years, either way it be easy enough to get the currency for Whitfield just all depends if Hawthorn are prepared to make it happen. No, they traded a future pick two years in a row.
It's not the same thing.
LOL. "Will need a new target".
Well I guess we can give this one up, if the whisp has mentioned it - it probably won't happen

Bloody hell, Jed Anderson and a couple of late picks earned Hawthorn pick 15, but you think Wright couldn't possibly do something similar, getting a better pick by trading a better player in 2017, then handing it over with something else.
All last September we were told that JOM and Tom was a fantasy, that Hawthorn couldn't possibly trade for both. That Hawthorn had no trade currency.
There's literally a handful of ways Wright could come up with GWS requirements if Whitfield decides he wants to go home.
I get that you probably don't want it to eventuate, but pretending like it's completely impossible is the real fantasy.
I have no inside information in this particular space, so this is just a regular poster having a discussion about this. But I wonder who GWS would prefer to keep, Whitfield or Cognelio (I honestly don't know the answer to this, Cognelio has had his injury concerns but when fit the GWS midfield has improved out of sight, and Whitfield has an x against his name after the 8 week suspension this year).Fine if he was out of contract but he is contracted, required and one of our best players. This fact means you would have to do something extraordinary not just market rate as we are not compelled to lift a finger.
As I said, best we talk again in 12 months.

But if we are told to come back in 12 months time, I have a feeling it will be Cognelio we'll be asking about, not Whitfield.
I got a feeling if Cognelio wanted out of GWS, it will be Hawthorn he'll want to go to. Home sickness isn't a concern anymore for him, and I don't think he'd leave without a flag first. If GWS believed he was going to leave as a free agent in 2019, they'd trade him in 2018 at his maximum trade value. Also contracted and very happy in Sydney. If Cogs ever left us it would be to head home to WA where his family is.
If we won a flag maybe Shiel is the one to enquire about as he has the strongest Melbourne tie however he has been incredibly loyal to us thus far and also seems really happy.
I reckon Gold Coast is a happier hunting ground atm as our boys are pretty tight.
