Breust's currency has deteriorated quite a bit since then. In such a trade he'd be steak knives. Breust and a future first for Whitfield might be the go.
On Bruests currency he has the hardest job in football right now, small forward in a team with the worst midfield in the comp. Will still kick 30+ goals which isnt a poor return for a down year.

Make no mistake in a strong side he is a lock for 40-50.

People have been overly harsh on him this year, mostly hawks supports TBH.

Dont thonk his value is the issue. Toby has developed at least partly to fill the hole. Deledio takes a forward spot if he does get on the park. Devon Smith has said he wants to stay and takes a forwatd spot, although he's really a forwatdish o/s mid.
Also think the Hawks might want to keep a player that has quite a few years left, and can lead the youngsters coming through.

Yep i agree, with Toby you have your gun SF so you only need jobbers to fill out the other positions. SF isnt the hole it once was.

Hawks drew with us in their fortress with us missing 12 and playing our worst game since 2012.

We will be right [emoji41]

I would say 8-9 starting best 22 is still rather significant outs for us.
Don't forget the Hawks are in re-build mode .

I think this years premiers will find the next get Hawks list will be competitive if by some chance the Hawks make the 8 & they cross paths again.

He doesn't want to leave, but nice to see someone who can see what he brings and offers reasonably fair value. Lachie has been tremendous for GWS since his return. I don't believe that we'd find someone in the current draft who offers the same poise and precision kicking.

Hard to bring in any stars if youre stiffing on the trade.

Interesting now in hindsight, as good as next years draft is... Would you take the punt on Whitfield over a hit or miss pick? In saying that with the belief of us finishing in the 8.

I would think that a pick in the 10-15 range & an early - mid second Rd or a player of need would be looked at as a minimum.
2 late firsts would would also be pretty close.
1 early & a mid first would be overs IMO but if it get us closer to another cup I don't mind what would be paid as I have liked Lachie for a while now.
It's a shame that someone doesn't talk about Hopper & Lachie & that little Mexican girl popped up followed by the bald guy with a flashy rainbow background.... it's Happening!
That would be my off season complete.

A man can dream right

Fair enough, surely he's worth more trade wise this year than next year?
In terms of, I would want an earlier pick this year? Absolutely. If you mean, sell him while he's still got time before his contract runs out? Maybe true, but I'm a bit meh about the draft crop this year, so wouldn't be keen as we might not get a better player even with a better pick. Essentially, I just don't believe that we could replicate what he brings to the team either year with the likely trade we would get, so don't want to lose him. If, and that IMHO is a big IF, he wants to leave next year at his contract's end, we'll deal with it then - as we have with others in the past. Sometimes we've gotten value and sometimes not. Swings and roundabouts.

We don't have a 1st rounder this year, but we do next year & next years draft is strong.
