I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this guy, his performance last night cannot go unnoticed, he didn't kick a goal but I'd love to know how many goal assists he had, he seems so smart when he has the ball as well, did any1 notice how he drew gartlett's oppenent towards himself in the last qtr before dishing off the handball for jeff's 6th? and those quick hands to betts in the third?

He always provides a contest Hendo and is exactly what we need up forward, if he's not marking he keeps his feet and follows up really well, this is a guy who busts his guts and doesn't bring the team down when things don't go his way (i.e Brendan Fevola), he is going to become a very valuable player for us in the future but of course we all need to give him some time as this is his first year playing permanently forward

Well done Hendo

I was actually a little disappointed with Hendo's game.

Maybe it was the way it was coming in, but he played a lot 25-30m out from goal meaning he was invariably leading at players 15-20m away from him, or having to put in longer leads and getting too far out from goal.

Was fairly consistently caught behind Hurley when the quick ball came in, and outpointed in a few contests.

But yep, understanding with Betts and Garlett is improving, and the AFL site credits him with three assists.

As I said it wasn't so much about him taking marks etc, cos the delivery to him wasn't that great, but it's the little things that go unnoticed like assists and putting the ball put in front of himself when he doesn't hold onto the marks that was so valuable, people expect this guy to be a big contested marking fwd but reality is he is a cpl of yrs away from being that player we need, as long as he gives a contest he will be well on the way to the key forward we need

Thought it was one of his best games. Didn't trouble the scorer much but his link work further up the ground was excellent. Setup plenty of attacks. A very smart footballer, with nice skills. Loved the look-away handball to Betts in the 3rd. Classy stuff.

That's exactly what was impressive, the delivery wasn't great but seems to have good awareness about him Hendo, I really do love his workrate, it really is underrated by most

Yeah playing a bit of Treadrea role. .. considering our forward and midfield set up, that is kind of what we need at the moment. .. Not every KPF can be a Carey/Brown. .. If he develops into a more durable Whitnal type, I'll take that :)

I thought Henderson was one of the reasons we got off to a good start.

Played a traditional CHF role and dragged Hurley up the ground.

An opponent as good as Hurley was trailing him on those leads and marks.

Hurley beat him in those one on ones deep, but he's a gun, so that's not a knock on Henderson.

Promising game as part of a team.

Lovely kick to position for a tall.

They seem to be playing Waite and Hammer deep, and pushing Hendo further up the ground. Makes sense because Hendo is a fantastic athlete and has great agility for someone his size. Thought his game against Hurley was insightful. Hurley is best on big stay-at-home power forwards, but struggles on athletic tall forwards that expose his lack of leg speed. I suspect this was another reason why Hendo played the way he did.

:)

[Was fairly consistently caught behind Hurley when the quick ball came in, and outpointed in a few contests.

I disagree with this. From what I saw, there were plenty of times he was in front, only to watch the ball sail over his head to Hurley.

After watching what Hurley did to Kosi last week, I was a little worried about this match up when I saw them line up at the start. But Hendo can hold his head high. It was a good performance against a good opponent ... there's not much more you can ask of the guy.

what about that quick handball to Eddie Betts? It was awesome.
Henderson has really improved since his 1st game with us. He really has the potential to be a good player.

5 scores assists last night according to superfooty.com. Hendo did play well, but it's harder to think of a Carlton player who didn't.

Hurley would be welcome to join Carlton any time, but I think we saw why he slipped to pick five last night.

Is just a second year player, but was trailing Henderson and Hampson on a few leads.

Isn't overly quick and agile.

Hampson taking it out in front with Hurley trailing and handpassing it on quickly in the one action to set up a goal was terrific.

Fantastic game last night from Hendo.

I think the Henderson/Hurley contest is going to become one of the great CHF/CHB contests of the next 10 years

We all view things differently.

I was sitting in the deep pocket, and for at least two quarters got a good view of Hendo being caught behind Hurley on numerous occasions.

Not a blight on the kid, and he was able to contribute in other ways, I just didn't think it was one of his better performances.

Not sure exactly as to why the disappointment.
Showed many facets of becoming a very good player for us.

His marking is improving markedly and not just in front of his body, but he collects a lot of balls that come in at knee level.
He also links up very well, plays instinctively and takes the game on.

More than the abovementioned qualities, he has the genuine desire to succeed.
I'm not disappointed.

Well as I said...I thought he was caught in no-mans land quite a bit, and when he pushed deeper he played from behind, and subsequently got caught behind too often. Good that he got involved in other ways, but one might reasonably expect more than one shot on goal from our key forward in an open goalfest. Hurley took the points comfortably.

Not questioning his intensity, application, teamwork, development (which I think quite promising) or anything else. Would be a good week for Sticks to take him aside and run through the video.

Henderson worked up the ground a fair bit, and Hurley preferred to stay right back to sure up the last line.

Hurley was one of Essendons better players even though he found himself lucky to get a few of his decisions just working for him last night.
I thought Hurley looked pretty wobbly for most of the night, actually
Henderson stood tall.

I may not agree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it...

:thumbsu:. The quick handball caught the Essendon defenders off guard.

Henderson is a good player who has the potential to be a great player. Showed his ability to kick long and hit targets deep into the forward line. Also liked his part in drawing a defender and handballing to Garlett for his 5th goal.

Sorry Kramer, I did not read this.
You just can't compare a gentle TV watch to being at the ground. :thumbsu:

No sweat...doesn't mean I'm right, just an observation. I don't get down to enough games but I am always amazed at the different perspective it gives.

Overall I didn't come away as rapt as some. Some brilliant tap/clearance work in the first five minutes aside I don't read too much into the last quarter...blowouts happen late in games (much like Essendon did to us last year) and I think we should look (constructively) at the first three.

Neagle missed three sitters, Hardingham looked dangerous but couldn't convert, Hille was allowed to drift in unchecked on too many occasions (the only blight on Knockers otherwise brilliant game), and even with abhorrent disposal for much of the game the Bombers were still a punchers chance at the last change.

Loved the intensty, attack on the ball and pressure on the ball carrier (which in part explains the Bombers skills) that we showed, but we still looked pretty exposed at times.

Usually when we play the Bombers (we make) their disposal look a million dollars.

Our pressure was a definitely a level above those previous games and in recent times, just hope we keep it up and more consistently.

As for Hendo, liked his game personally, but then I'm another TV game watcher, by virtue of where I live. But what I did see I was quite happy with.

Anyone happen to hear Lachie on SEN this afternoon?

Sounds like a level headed bloke. He spoke well.

Linky

Am really excited about his potential!

Thanks for that really enjoyed it , sounds tops :thumbsu:
