1. Collingwood
4 weeks more pre-season since they missed last year's finals. Pendlebury 37 Howe 34 Sidebottom 34 Elliott 32 Mitchell 32 Crisp 31 and yet well-run Vic clubs seem to be able to keep their old players going for so long. Perryman and Houston are both very very good.
2. Geelong
Could easily have won the flag last year. Added Bailey Smith who is great and precisely the thing they needed.
3. Hawthorn
Very fun to watch. I hope they won't become more boring now they added 2 decent key defenders in Barrass and Battle. Seems like the formula for some Vic teams is now to demonstrate that you're a good team and then attract players from bad teams. Would be pretty good for them if Will Day doesn't get injured.
4. Port Adelaide
Can you believe they went out in finals in the same way they always do and are back for another run. Lukosius is the type of player Damian Hardwick has always had little time for, doesn't win contests and doesn't defend, but will look good in some wins. Still think the core of Butters Rozee JHF is about as good as any.
5. GWS Giants
Chokers, just like Brisbane were for most of their time under Fagan, and we were for all of our time under NC. Need more good role players (Perryman) and fewer fading stars (Greene / Coniglio / Stringer). Salary cap must be a nightmare and will get worse. Still got tonnes of talent.
6. Adelaide
I choose to believe. Hopefully Rankine will play a full year, and Rachelle will never speak again so I don't have to watch one of my players taunting the opposition about having poor teeth while playing without a mouthguard, just an incredibly stupid individual.
7. Gold Coast
Damian Hardwick improved them in year 1 from 9-14 (92 percent) to 11-12 (99 percent). Figure they will improve a similar amount this year which should take them into finals. I've seen this movie, it's only a matter of time until Elliot Himmelberg joins the list of premiership-winning former crows.
8. Carlton
They would do better with a better coach
9. Sydney
Grand final smashing hangover
10. Brisbane
Joe Daniher was their one good tall forward, Neale is 32 this year, Zorko 36. Not sure they have the marking power to win down-the-line, not sure they have the run to win an outside game, at least against the best opposition.
11. Fremantle
Shai Bolton has a calf injury. Still don't rate their midfield.
12. Western Bulldogs
Lost Bailey Smith for pick 17 and discarded Macrae, after Dunkley previously. They finally have a somewhat normal amount of inside midfielders. They could have really benefited from Perryman and Houston but quality citizen players do seem to find their way to non basket case clubs. Bont is 29 now and it's downhill from here as an inside mid. A mystery.
13. Essendon
Solid first year for Brad Scott. Not clear where significant improvement comes from other than perhaps becoming a bit more coherent from playing together more.
14. Melbourne
Their incredibly talented players are once again disgruntled. Simon Goodwin is a premiership coach.
15. West Coast
Traded pick 3 for Liam Baker while they lost Tom Barrass in free agency. Harley Reid will probably carry them to a respectable number of home wins.
16. St Kilda
Phillipou has a leg stress fracture. Max King will probably get injured again.
17. North Melbourne
Like their young players but not ready for lots of wins yet
18. Richmond

This is harder than selecting our last bench spot and sub. I intended to have us make the 8, but as I continued remembering the missing clubs, I just kept pushing us down. Top 3 and bottom 3 seem like locks but I reckon we can throw a blanket over the rest.
