I'm also very bullish about Adelaide's chances. Hawthorn 2024 vibes.

Interesting how many Pear figures in the media have them sliding out now.

1. GWS - I think they'll start slowly (can see them being 0-2) but, once they get going, will be the best team in it. Stacked on every line.

2. Collingwood - I said earlier in the thread that they will either bounce back for another shot at it or slide into the bottom 6. They'll respond, although a few of their veterans (Pendles, Sidebottom Howe) will likely start to really show their age. N. Daicos to win the Brownlow.

3. Fremantle - Like the Giants, they have talent on every line and there's no excuses for them to not contend. The only thing stopping them is their coach implementing a dour game plan and themselves because they're, well, Freo.

4. Brisbane - In the season following the last four flag winners, three missed the finals and the other went out in straight sets. They still have the list in their prime to be there at the pointy end, but it's very difficult to go back-to-back.

5. Sydney - History is against them in that teams that get hammered in a GF either fall away the next year or barely scrape into finals. Still, Gulden injury aside, there's too much top end talent for them to miss the eight entirely.

6. Geelong - They're tipped to slide most years by many, but it doesn't happen. I don't quite rate them as contenders, but they have the best coach in the league that gets the most out of his list.

7. Adelaide - A favourable draw and have boosted the 22. There's nowhere to hide now Nicks, it's finals or bust.

8. Port Adelaide - They still have a star midfield and an underrated forward line that should see them scrape in, but their defence is a big concern.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

9. Carlton - There's too much of a chasm between the best and worst for me to really rate them as a threat.

10. Hawthorn - They had that amazing run last season, but a tougher draw compiled with perhaps being found out (and maybe a bit of bathwater drinking), I can see them taking a step back before taking two steps forward. Progression isn't always linear.

11. Melbourne - A fully-fit Petracca and Oliver could easily change their fortunes, but something is rotten in the state of Denmark. Plus their forward line stinks, really bad.

12. Western Bulldogs - Enough talent that they should really be higher, but some key injures and Bevo means it could be a disappointing year for them. Bevo to move on.

13. Gold Coast - I've picked them as finalists for the last two seasons, but they just continue to be perennial disappointments. Until they can prove otherwise, I pick them to be the same old Suns.

14. Essendon - I'm not getting too sucked into the pre-season hype, their list is still decisively average that doesn't strike me as finals quality.

15. St Kilda - A terrible pre-season on the injury front is going to result in a very ugly start. Marshall, Sinclair, King, Wilson, Owens, NWM, Phillipou and Wilkie is a decent collection of talent that should net them some wins against those around them, but not enough to avoid bottom four.

16. North Melbourne - With all of their top draft picks, there's no excuse for them to be more competitive and to win at least six matches.

17. West Coast - They'll win some home games, but their list still needs a lot of work.

18. Richmond - A very tough few years ahead.

We should be targeting a top 6 finish from here.

What we are seeing - our list is in good shape - the acquisitions of ANB, Peatling and Cumming has improved us, and we are seeing all the boats rising as one with RT, Fog, Rachelle, Worrell, Maxy, Soligo and Rankine

We have depth that can come in and play a role - Pedlar, Berry, Dowling, Butts and Taylor

Finally - our game plan is a lot more aggressive

No excuses from here on in

List is in great shape from a talent + depth perspective... AND we have zero injuries.

I'd like another pure gunnage midfielder (to go with Dawson and Ranks), but jeez crouch hs been good. Maybe it's him.

Currently 7/8 finalists (swap Sydney for Suns), but likely 6/8 finalists as expect Bulldogs to replace Hawks.

I thought I had Bulldogs in for Sydney... buggar.

Currently 7 of the top 8 and 3 of the top 4. Got Collingwood and Carlton wrong, but was right with the Swan's and Port drop and Crows and Suns rise. Not too bad.

Sydney my biggest blunder

Wrongly through the Hawks would slip back

Had Port too high pleasingly, as did all their fans
