Last Quarter .....please explain

There has been alot of arguing as to whether this season has been the players or coachers fault. I think there are 3 answers.

1. The players just aren't good enough - results in end of year player cleanout/rebuild, keeping ND (we must win around 6-7 games for this)
2. The players aren't good enough so they must go and so should the coach for having players who aren't good enough - rebuild with new coach
3. The coach is making us play sh1t style footy that is compounding the injury problems so the coach must go - new coach comes in and takes us to immediate success.

I'm sticking with most of the players who we have (with about 4-5 delistings) so my approach would be somewhere between option 2 and 3. Also I would describe the loss this week as more of the coaches fault for nothing happening in 3 quarters, where the hawthorn match I'd be more inclined to put on the players who were dreadful.

The players must follow the coaches instructions, and if anyone decided to ignore this then all hell would break loose. It seems that they just dont know what to do, hence handballing to stationery players and getting in trouble. If they dont understand what is needed to play this new style then surely you cant blame them.

I don't completely blame the players, but after the complete lack of effort like the first 3 quarters of last week and the West Coast game before that, I can't completely blame the coach either. Like you though, I don't think a running game suits us, we are too slow and don't work hard enough. A game based on defensive pressure and counter-attack I think would suit better but I don't think we work hard enough for that either.

I'm with Master Bate, somewhere between his option of 2 and 3. We have a good core of players than has potential (I hate that word!) to go somewhere but needs topping up in a few deficient areas, and we need a new coach with fresh ideas and a new direction that suits our list better.

Here's my 2 cents...

The 2 major reasons for us losing last week were:
1. Brad Green playing on Shannon Grant
2. Our reluctancy in the first 3 quarters to kick long to a contest.

Firstly, tell me how many games Green has played as an actual defender, not just floating around the backline a la Hodge or Dal Santo? Hardly any. Why on earth Daniher decided to keep him on Grant even after he'd been nicely towelled up is a mystery. The damage could've been worse too - 6.2, 7.1 instead of 5.3. I can't remember who Bell was playing on, but why wasn't an actual defender who has performed well of late moved onto their most potent forward? Green could've then helped out in the midfield where he should always be playing.

Secondly, there were numerous times in the first 3 quarters when the Roos bombed long to a 1-on-1 or 2-on-2 contest and managed to get a goal. It was only in the last quarter that we started doing this (yes, part of this was made available by our increased run through the midfield), and by having the ball down our end of the field, the pressure on the Roos defenders was increased and hence we were able to score a lot more freely. Having Robbo down there was another factor in this, because we didn't have to rely solely on Neita's presence.

This week fella's, this week.
