Now that the playing list has been formally finalised I want to turn our attention to the leadership group at the Blues.

Koutoufides is going to be captain again and Camporeale has left the Club and his vice-captain position, so who will be in the leadership group for the 2006 season.

Prendergast has been in there and needs to go, teague is a bit iffy for mine - tries bloody hard and supports his teammates, French is good and should remain, Lappin too, Fevola out and toughen up a bit, Stevens yes. Scotland? McGrath?

Any young kids we'd like in? Well I would love to see Waite, Carrazzo and Thornton in the leadership group with Waite a vc or dvc.

Maybe Kouta to captain, Stevens vc and Waite dvc in 2006. With French, Lappin, Thornton, Teague and Carrazzo in the leadership group also.

Thoughts?

You'd have to have Whitnall in there somewhere, but not as a VC or DVC.

Carrazzo? I like the bloke, but we need to see another good season from him first.

Otherwise I agree with everything you said...

Scotland is a changed man after he was dropped and played some pearlers after his stint in the VFL. Should be a good role-model to the younger players. Maybe a position?

kouta = captain (leads by example and bleeds carlton)
stevens = vice captain (is the voice of the group and a smart footballer)

thornton (leads by example)
waite (need to develop players and give them responsibility)
french (leads by example and hard worker)
lappin (provides experience)

then 1 of :
scotland (sets a pretty good example and IMO is pretty switched on)
teague (sets an example)
whitnall (has a good footy brain)

this was the 2005 leadership group

Barnaby French,
Matthew Lappin,
Ian Prendergast,
Nick Stevens,
David Teague
Lance Whitnall
Camporeale
Koutoufides

THE CAN BE ONLY 1 MAN FOR THE VC .NEXT CAPT N STEVENS END OF STORY

Maybe the club could make lappin its dvc, after taking a pay cut and showing his loyalty.Perfect example to the younger players, that you play for the jumper and not the $$$$

Good call, like that idea. :thumbsu:

Do we need a 'leadership group' that follows the structure proposed here? Why? Its not like it worked well in 2005. 2 of the top 3 teams in the league have unconventional player leadership structures.

Pagan is a dominant coach who expects players to do it his way. Rather than selecting players on the basis of experience, I'd pick a group of guys that embody his principles, then rotate them through the captaincy. At the moment, I'd put maybe Koutoufides and Stevens in the group. There's a few that could get there, maybe a few lower posts in the short term - Thornton could captain the backline, Waite take responsibility for the forward line, Lappin and Whitnall maybe as well. If anyone continually does the job, then they get moved into the top group as well.

Whitnall may have a footy brain but does he have one in the off season or when he goes to the fridge?

Again he is too big and over weight at this stage, does it year in year out.

Give kids like Thornton and Waite a go in the leadership group as they as desperate and disciplined.

Whitnall needs the VC and some love from Pagan:thumbsu:. He will thrive if he is shown the same attention as Fev.
Stevens is probably going to be the other VC.

Lappin, Scotland, French, McGrath, Fevola, Waite, Thornton and Saddington should be in our leadership group for 2006.

they shouldn't have a leadership group. Leaders will lead anyway and they will show themselves when they are ready/needed. Good leaders aren't made they just are.

Spot on. It'd force lance to keep himself in shape. I'm not sure if McGrath is leadership material tho, also I'd give Saddington some time to settle in.

we cannot afford to have fev in our leadership group! i love him as a player and when hes on he is extremely damaging, but very often he has a bad atitude and shows it off the field. Blokes in the leadership group are meant to show great examples. Fev, for one, does not do that. We cannot have our kids grow up and learn and play in the wrong environment.

ANTHONY Koutoufides, Matthew Lappin, Barnaby French, Ian Prendergast, Nick Stevens, Cory McGrath and David Teague.

Those seven were chosen by the rest as the leadership group for the first stage of pre-season which started early last month.

"We had a vote just after we started and they worked out who the leaders were for the first six weeks. They'll have another look at it before the home-and-away season starts," Pagan said.
