At the moment our club is crying out for some leadership, I'm not talking about a replacement captain but a couple of players that will lead from the front and show the way for the younger guys.

My question is do we keep the status quo and wait for the young guys to naturally develope into leaders or do we bite the bullet and recruit one or two players that will help fill the viod?

I'm not talking players such as Nick Stevens, I'd be more interested in hard physical types that will lead with 1% and attack on the ball. I actually thought last year we would have shown more interest in Pickett.
Our young guys are coming along but as you all agree we lack leadership on many fronts.

I'd also be interested in thoughts on what player/s would be of interest, what they would offer the club and what trade you would put forward to get their services.

Just take note for all those sledgers, I'm not saying our young kids are deficient in this area but it is natural for them to look to the more senior players on the list for guidence. Unfortunatley so many of our senior players are either deficient in their game in one way or the other or just seem disinterested. Either way I think this effects the confidence of both the individual and the team.:)

i think your right, but i don't think you can go out and get a leader and say "this guy is now your leader". I think we need to continue to be patient and let the leaders emerge (Simpson, Murphy). Just a couple more years....

I think we are doing alright...

Have a look at Simmo, takes everyone on. That is leading.

However, the more leaders the better.

Good point, it is evident that we don't have great leaders amongst our more senior players. However, the club is not in a state where we can afford to look to other clubs to trade older, more experienced leader types to us. We will instead have to wait for our younger players to develop as quality leaders.

Players who I think are capable of being leaders are Murphy, Simpson, Kennedy, Carrazzo and even Blackwell. I have seen all of them be vocal on both the playing ground and the training track, encouraging their team-mates. I think they could all be potential leaders of the Carlton Football Club in a few years down the track. Simpson is already in our Leadership group.

Other players I would be looking to in the meantime are Kouta, Lance, Fev, Scotland and Thornton. Kouta is the captain of our club. Lance is VC and was our captain in the long term absence of Kouta. Fev has been magnificent this year, and I think that he could be a captain in a few years if he keeps his attitude right. Scotland is our major ballwinner and could be a mentor to the younger midfielders, goes in tough and shows the way. Thornton is still quite young, has been around for a while, and before this year when Lance was moved back, he was our general in defence, and does a very good job of it.

Others I would have liked to be leaders are Lappin and Stevens. Lappin, however, has been pretty disappointing this season, and Stevens, while he knows hoe to get the ball, will NEVER be a leader of our footy club.

I would also like to see Waite develop into a leader, but he needs to work lots on his consistency before he is to be a model for our younger players.

OK. Now, instead of blindly attacking me, how about you go and find me evience of when I have ever said he is a god? Not ONCE have I said this, and for 2 years now I have said he will never be a deserving leader at Carlton.

Go and get your facts straight before you attack me again like this. Then come back on here and apologize to me when you can't find any evidence (surprise surprise). Actually, make that an apology on the main board, I have a feeling you may be banned from here by the time you find that evidence.

Jeremias can have an opinion, as can you, however, there are better ways of going about it, rather than attacking somebody without explaining why you think they are wrong.

How about you tell us why you think what Jeremias said is incorrect?

Wasn't good last year either, and at his age it will be very unlikely he'll be able to become a regular for Carlton. I would be very happy if he does, he's as couragous as anyone and trys hard, but just doesn't have enough speed and composure in defence to make it.
