Learnings from the JLT and scratchy

I am very excited about the future for the Fremantle Football Club, our draftees this year look promising, the players becoming free agents in 2018 and 2019 look like good recruitment inquisitions, our backline looks to be strong for a long time and will continue to develop. I see us pushing for finals in a couple years.

Agree with your thoughts MD but those recruitment inquisitions worry me a little.

Its interesting when we move the ball cleanly with 3 corridor kicks that go end to end and the match up in the forward 50m ends up being Walters vs McGovern. Walters, even though he is closed down a bit, has too much agility.

If the ball isn't moved quickly or there's a skill error or a different decision made somewhere in that chain (eg. after the kick in Banfield has an option out on the right flank that it looks like Spurr is pointing to) we'd likely be saying it would be a bad forward line set up to kick to.

Yes there is not a lot between a highlight and a lowlight sometimes.

With the chat around why Tabs has been scapegoated ahead of Cam Mac and Kerstin, i believe it is related to those 2 coming in via a trade. It's a lot easier to drop someone we picked up off the rookie list.

Those 2 via trades would have been made all sorts of promises/assurances in convincing them to come over. McCarthy wouldn't have looked to to quit GWS initially a couple of years ago without this communication. IMO its match committee living up to their end of the bargain, at least in the 1st year.

Next year we will scrape into the 8 IMO.

Doesn't matter where you start from, what stands out is that our recruiting has been clinical, ruthless, widespread,
in its approach.
The Eagles on the other hand looks uninspiring, who was their last rookie. mature ager that has shown something?

Not sure what any of the above has to do with my post.

Freo supporters get far too hung up on what West Coast are doing, who cares how they have recruited?

I care as much (or as little) about them as any other of the 16 clubs (except fantasy relevant players).

Obsessing about them makes you look insecure. Get behind the Purple and forget the rest!

Drew Petrie from the RL. Should've upgraded him. Think Mitchell was a mature ager too.

Rumour is the reason Dean Cox and Longmuir left is because of Mitchell. He is not liked apparently . Hagdorn should look into all is not well at the Eagles instead of pushing the shit cart barrow about Fremantle.

He should but he won’t. His leaking of the Sam Mitchell scoop is his greatest achievement full stop. He now lives off that like Bryan Adams’, “Back in the summer of 69” not a one hit wonder but an event he will relive forever. He is Mitchell’s biggest fan baby.

All isn’t well over there but his agenda is to pursue the RTB rumourmill or otherwise find something that he can run with.

Haggers is a knob of the highest rank for sure.

Longmire has wants to be a head coach and most likely read the tea leaves that Mitchell will be become thr senior assistant or head coach.

This is all very rational but did you see them at the end of the game. hey werent expecting the result. Something is definitely wrong up the road.

In a rational view, the Eagles club needs a good shakeup. It happens in all business's, CEO's are moved on, new ideas are taken on and the company adjusts to the market forces.

Regularly I hear Eagles members, saying that the administration is full of the old boys network. Change starts at the top.

Yep I don't think the Eagles got out of 2nd gear on the weekend, but it didn't stop Luke Shuey adding to his CV, ........... ducker + sniper.

Think people need to put the schadenfreude away, at least until the season begins. They belted us by 15 goals in the 2014 NAB challenge...then didn't even make finals.

We played well and they were gash, but I doubt it'll be entirely predictive of the outcome of the two derbies or both teams' season as a whole. Yes they'll probably slide and we should see some progression, but gloating over the result of a JLT game is unwarranted.

I do agree and we will get a nice reality check round 1 and to quote RTB “it’s never as good as it seems nor is it as bad as seems”.

I remember we got pumped by Carlton one pre-season (2012 or 2013 can’t remember) and I mean royally pumped by over 100pts in an uncompetitive effort. Then in the real season we were poles apart.

Whether the eags never got out of second gear or not, the game highlighted two predictable areas of high concern for them - lack of depth and midfield. Their midfield was one paced last year and they haven’t really addressed this and those they have brought in are inexperienced and mediocre at best. Filling your midfield with late 2nd rounders and 3rd rounders will leave you exposed without that top end talent. You get the odd L. Neale (pick 50 odd), Barlow (rookie) or Priddis (rookie) but generally they’re just average.

They won’t make the 8 and will battle out with us for the bottom 6-8 positions. Their fwd line when fully fit is up their with the best.

Yeah fair enough but I think most Fremantle followers know that the club is in rebuild, and they can celebrate the development of the club's direction, enjoy the individual performances, and the team in general, without confusing it with impending global domination and shiny silver cups.

We got to witness Tucker playing in his ideal role, A Pearce reveal that he is indeed going to be a pillar of our defense, and the amazing potential of Brayshaw and Banfield. We played differently from last year, and life is good.

TBH I don't overly care about the Eagles stuff, but acknowledge that the rivalry is real and that the paths each club takes provides an interesting edge to any inevitable comparison.

Yep no doubt just as some of our fans are overselling Freo's win, it seems a few of West Coast fans are underselling their loss. They'll obviously be more competitive during the season, but their forwardline is going to be increasingly hard pressed to paper over the cracks of a pedestrian midfield. Say what you want about them too, but no Priddis/Mitchell is a lot of lost contested ball.

For us, while it'd be stupid to get carried away, there were plenty of signs of positive, corridor oriented football with quick transition from defense to offense. Having guys like Ryan and Wilson to move the ball forward is a luxury we haven't been afforded since Duffield. It was also encouraging seeing a semblance of good forward structure.
