Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

Try Yeovil.

A fantastic achievement by everyone associated with Leeds United F.C. The uncertainty over pre-season, players going without pay, the future of the club in doubt, then the blow of losing 15 points at the beginning of the season would be enough to sink many teams but this group has played with incredible spirit to firstly ensure they would become the first side to avoid relegation after being handed a point deduction. To then reach the playoffs even with the deduction is an phenomenal effort.

Thank you to the entire playing squad, Gary Mac, Steve Staunton, Dennis Wise, Gus Poyet and all the others involved. You've done us proud.

15pts, who gives a f**k, we're super Leeds and we're goin' up!

couldnt have said it better myself
a fantastic achievement

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

hopefully they can refresh some players and get them ready for the playoffs.

Would love to see them start their climb back to the premiership.

Most sides that get points deductions for financial reasons end up selling players to help pay their debts.

I guess Leeds got around that particular little problem.

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

fair point
i guess the following dosent count then
David Healy
Richard Cresswell
Kevin Nicholls
Danny Rose
Erik Bakke
Neil Sullivan
Stephen Crainey
Matthew Killgallon
Shaun Derry
Gylfi Einarrson
Eddie Lewis
Robbie Blake
Ian Moore
Geoff Horsfield

But you know what, we avoided it all, gave away our leading scorers, most promising defenders and our last 4 player the season winners. All because of finances
Also to mention, we had 8 players do a whole pre season with us without getting paid and waited for our mess to be sorted so they could get contracts with us. No signing on fees and all on basic wages. As at december 31st, Leeds had the 4th highest wage bill in league 1. Behind Notts Forest, Swansea City, and Donny Rovers. We are now second after our transfer window purchases.
shall i continue? or would you like to do some more fishing;)

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

Nice names but don't try and tell me they were all sold to pay off debt. Half were sold before the 15 points were deducted, you couldn't have got rid of the likes of Bakke and Nicholls quick enough for football reasons and you never even owned Geoff Horsfield (but could afford to bring him in on loan).

You've had the ability to bring in plenty of players and build the squad you want. Other sides haven't had that ability.

Meanwhile St Johns are still waiting for their money.

But I'm not wrong am I?

I've been to a few matches against Leeds, no different to any other game really.

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

Proffesor Mckenzie and Gerald Krasner had already sold most of the clubs assets to pay back the clubs debts. Under Krasner anything that had monetary value was sold, including Elland Road and Thorpe Arch, as well as the academies best kids like Lennon and Carson to help pay debts. Even at the end of Ridsdale's reign, Ferdinand, Woodgate, Smith, Kewell, Milner, Viduka...ect were all sold and the funds from those transfers certainly were not reinvested in the squad, so it is unfair to say that leeds didn't sell assets to help repay debts.

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

The point was made that Leeds were the first club to escape relegation after suffering a points deduction. I simply pointed out one of the reasons why this is the case.

And to suggest that after the points deduction that they had, or have no saleable assets with which to pay back some of their debts is folly.

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

get the feeling a decision is immenent, all leeds message boards are crashing and there had been rumours of a press conference at 2pm today GMT

Had SSN on all morning, nothing on Leeds today. They're normally pretty good with that sort of stuff.

[edit]Just realised it's 3pm also[/edit]

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

Just caught the end of something on SSN, they said "it could get better for Leeds fans, you'll find out about it here at 5 o'clock on Thursday".

I'm guessing that will be the decision.

Not sure what the first bit of news was.

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

Thursday 5pm (English time) or Friday 2am (Australian time) is the apparent time the decision will be made...

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

Leeds will find out the result of their appeal against their 15-point deduction by the Football League on Thursday at 1700 BST, reports BBC Radio Leeds.

A three-man arbitration panel will make the announcement at the Offices of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

The panel could back the ruling or, if they find the penalty unlawful, they could reinstate all 15 points.

Leeds have secured a play-off spot but if all the points are reinstated they would go up automatically.

Another option could see the panel return a proportion of the lost points, with five being the most likely added to Leeds' current total.

The Elland Road club are demanding a maximum return of points as they believe the 15-point sanction placed on them by the Football League to be unlawful.

They had already been docked 10 points for originally entering administration while still in the Championship, so in total they have been docked 25 points.

Any return of points would upset Leeds' League One promotion rivals, with Doncaster and Carlisle already hinting they would take legal action if this were the case.

As for leaders Swansea, they will be confirmed as champions if Leeds get 12 points back or less.

The verdict could also cause complications with the League One play-offs, which are due to begin on 9 May.

There's no way Leeds will get their 15 points back now.

The legal bun fight that would ensue would mean the play-offs would be thrown into chaos.

If they get 5 points back I hope it comes with a massive legal bill.

Not that they will pay it anyway.

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

Did you honestly expect to get some of your points back?

I said from the start, it was a waste of time and money.

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

if luton and bournameth dont get deducted 15 points..legal action will be taken...

Why?

They entered into the administration process properly and within the leagues guidelines.

Leeds didn't.

Bate's and Leeds dodgy handling of the administration process could have seen Leeds booted out of the league all together.

But the league eventually sanctioned that ____ing piece of shit Bates bid to buy the club citing the "exceptional circumstance rules" which let you actually play the season and receive your golden share.

And yet you still think you are hard done by.

If you'd been Hereford you probably would have been booted back to the conference.

Don't blame the League (which had the full support of every other club).

Blame those who run your club.

And it's *Bournemouth*

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

I'm disappointed, but not quite surprised because deep down I had a feeling this was always going to be the result.

I wished this could have been dealt with much earlier, like we wanted, but the FL's stalling tactics forced it to be dragged out this late.

Bring on the playoffs. There would be nothing sweeter than achieving promotion at Wembley and telling the FL to ____ off on such a big stage.
