Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

How long is Kilkenny suspended for?

He was only suspended for one game. He's missed the last few through injury.

Gary Mac said he'd be back for Tuesday's game against Forest and after the point this morning against Northampton it has become a season-defining game. We are losing touch with the playoff spots and a win is a must.

whats the ruling on this?

Might be a blessing in disguise for us. By the time we do play them we'll hopefully have a fit Kilkenny, a suspension-free Beckford and Thommo back from his loan spell.

Another week for Gary Mac to work with them won't hurt either even though the Forest performance sounded promising.

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

i know a few pages ago in this thread i said id post some interesting things ive read in p riddys book thus far..still collating, but when thing i read today astounded me about a player who i respected even after he left the club..not no more

Step forward cup hero mr Woodgate, after the court cases that leeds supported him through, they pledged to him and to his family that they would rebuild him as a person and make sure he got his life back on track. Then they would worry about football later.

Woody had lost a fair bit of cash in helping defend himself during the trial and was in a bit of debt.
Leeds bought him a luxiurious apartment in local Wetherby and told him to simply stop associating with his friends from Boro, of which who were all there and had an influence(as well as bowyer) in the incident that led to the court case. 3 of these guys were convicted criminals, and leeds simply said to take a step back for a while. Bought him a place, personal trainer all day every day, as well as all the welfare help he required.
Two nights after agreeing to this, Woody went up to Boro and met with the unruly's, got pissed at a place called the Dickens Bar, and subsequently got into a brawl(most details of this were never released). He got his jaw broke, and two weeks later Leeds lost both Matteo and Ferdinand to injury, meaning woodgate should have been ready to fill the breach.
We struggled, narrowly missed out on CL, and the lack of money from thismiss sent us on our sprial downwards
We gave him numerous chances, and he ****ed us over, i never knew this about him and lost all respect for him upon reading it

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

Leeds chairman Ken Bates has revealed the club have been invited to arbitration by the Football League as they look to overturn their 15-point deficit. The 15-point penalty was imposed on the Yorkshire club in August by the League who claimed they had not properly followed insolvency policy. It followed the deduction of 10 points after the club went into administration following relegation to League One in May last year. The club - now five points off the play-offs - served a High Court writ on the League earlier this month challenging the 15-point deduction and Bates revealed the League made their offer of arbitration on the day their deadline to respond was due to expire. He told the Yorkshire Post: 'The letter arrived from the League's solicitors suggesting that this should go to arbitration with a Court of Appeal judge. 'To quote their words 'impartiality and independence will be guaranteed and the competence of the tribunal will be par excellence'. 'Impartiality and independence is what we have been asking for all along. 'What makes me laugh is that it has taken six months to get to this position, six months in which the League have refused to discuss the matter with us. 'Only now, with the writ having been issued, do they instruct their lawyers to come back to us.

'It is a long overdue development and the pleasing thing from our point of view is that a Court of Appeal judge will hear it.

'After a law lord they are the highest in the land.

'The decision to deduct us 15 points was purely one borne of self-interest on behalf of the other clubs.'

The arbitration panel would consist of a neutral Court of Appeal judge plus one representative apiece nominated by Leeds and the League.

Asked if Leeds would accept the offer of arbitration, Bates replied: 'We will have to discuss what our next move is.'

The League are making no comment on the legal action but chairman Lord Mawhinney promised last week, in a letter circulated to all member clubs, to fight the writ `robustly'

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

Would have thought it was fairly standard procedure. Courts wouldn't look kindly at a league that wsn't prepared to at least negotiate with it's clubs. Don't expect anything to come of it though.

Interesting stuff on Woodgate, was probably the Spurs (of the future) in him coming out.

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

theyre saying the FL wouldve been concerned about a possible loss in the high courts
imagine how many clubs would then follow suit on similar matters and the like, once precedent is set, they'd be in trouble
Many are already saying Mahwinney has organised one of his lord yes mens to preside over the arbitration..so looks like we're ****ed regardless

Arbitration it is.

Why don't the FL want to go public? Too much to hide? Why has Bates, "under duress" accepted this procedure, when he publicly demanded a court meeting?

There's many questions to be answered. Hopefully the whole thing is done quickly. We don't want this dragging on for too long.

Probably nothing more than the fact that people should be talking about football, not an administrative decision.

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

Gary Mac's first win last night, 1-0 over Swindon with Kandol scoring. We've got Bournemouth, Cheltenham and Port Vale coming up who are all down the bottom so its no excuses for the next month.

We better string a few wins together because I certainly won't be getting my hopes up about the arbitration.

Good to see the entire Brighton supporter base has voted.

That's only the Northstand.

You'll have to survey the South and West stands ;)

Very influential site that one, even has members who are BBC football comentators, current players and politicians :thumbsu:

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

Someone has threatened to sue if Leeds get any of their 15 points back, think it might have been Orient???

Martin Ling spouted off about it then the club come out with a statement distancing themselves from his comments.
