Does anyone know why, with f*ck all else on, that our game against Southend isn't being televised this Friday night GMT? Perfect chance to showcase the lower leagues with nothing else on I would have thought.

not on sky in the UK though

Southend play friday night as a request by them to the FL prior to the fixture being done, this because apparently a lot of their fans are also west ham fans, so theyve requested not to play at home on a saturday when west ham are at home the same weekend

Yes, sorry I meant why is it not on Sky? Its not as though Man Utd are playing at the same time. Literally, nothing else is on.

we're going to a tribunal for two 14 yeard olds city have poached from us

Mentioned these two in the last thread along with your director of recruitment, haven't heard if he has officially joined or not.

Anyway

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_5548290,00.html

The father of one of the two youngsters who quit Leeds over the summer to join Manchester City says money was not behind the decision to switch clubs.

George Swann departed Leeds' Academy during the close season along with 14-year-old Louis Hutton, transfers that are likely to require a tribunal after the Whites rejected City's £70,000 offer.

Swann's dad Peter, who played for Leeds for five years in the early 1980s, claims cutbacks in Leeds' investment in youth are to blame following their fall from grace following the turn of the century.

Premier League clubs signing youngsters, especially from abroad, is currently high on Fifa's agenda after Chelsea were found guilty of inducing Gael Kakuta to break his contract with Lens to join the club.

"The next two years are vital and will probably make or break whether he has a professional career in the game," Swann snr told the Yorkshire Post.

"The straw that broke the camel's back came one night at home about six or seven months ago. I was in the other room but overheard George talking to his mum in the kitchen.

"He basically said 'Mum, I am not happy at the Academy and don't feel to be learning anything'. I went into the kitchen and asked him what was going on.

"He hadn't wanted to tell me because I played for Leeds and know many of the people involved at Thorp Arch.

"But having signed at the age of nine when it was a Premier League set-up, George felt it had declined. He feels the coaching is not what it was and that there has been too much staff turnover.

"People may point the finger at George, Louis, Luke Garbutt or the two lads (Michael Woods and Tom Taiwo) who went to Chelsea, but they are missing the point.

"Leeds are a massive club but I don't think they think big enough when it comes to the Academy.

"Young lads are starting to leave and you have to ask why. Other parents are concerned as well but are too scared to say anything in case it jeopardises their kid's future.

"If Leeds are to get back to where we all know they belong, something will have to be done. More funding has to be put in."

Swann insists his son was gutted to leave Leeds and he denies that financial reasons were behind his decision to join the cash-rich Eastlands outfit.

"My boy was in tears when he left Leeds," he continued. "He even said on the day he signed for City that he still wanted to play for Leeds one day.

"But he said City just feels right. If I had been in his shoes, I might have chosen elsewhere because in my career I made sure that each move was right for me financially. But George opted for City even though there was no money in it."

Will be interesting to see what the fee is, considering the Garbutt decision (not too sure of the circumstances behind that). If you accept the story of Peter Swann above, you're still looking at compensation for 5 years that you've put into the kid. I'd imagine that would be well over £100k, and thats before you consider all the other factors involved.

Not much of a story in that one. We may get a slightly inflated figure considering FIFA's crackdown on the poaching of youngsters from other clubs at the moment, but I imagine it will be settled fairly ammicably at the tribunal. Maybe half a mill all up for the two of them.

As for tonight's game against Southend, we have Beckford and Kisnorbo returning with Marques, Naylor and Parker not far away meaning a full strength squad. Paul Huntington is out on loan to Stockport to get some much needed match fitness. Things are looking good at the moment.

4-1 win over Gillingham and Charlton's draw has put us 2pts clear on top of the league.

Bradley Johnson continued his hot scoring form while Jonny Howson and Becks added goals.

Disappointing thing was conceding a goal from open play for the first time this season.

We deserved the points in the end. The Norwich keeper through it away (bring back Theoklitos) but the best team definitely won. Beckford blew enough chances to win it, he was bound to get one eventually.

And Gradel. What a 15 minutes he played. Extend the one month loan deal now Simon!

I only saw most of the second half but both teams looked quite dangerous, Norwich probably for the majority but Gradel was great, really sparked things up. I'd keep Kandol in there over Enoch as well, doesn't look quite as awkward.

Didn't get to see too much of Vokes, for those who watched the whole thing how did he go?

Anyone else reckon that keeper looked eerily similar to Jonathan Brown? ;)

thought Norwich were good value for a point, lots of possession but i guess not a great deal of clear cut chances in the 2nd half. We had 3 golden chances to score a winner before we did

Gradel, what a 10 minutes he played, defence looked shaky early, but was expected without Paddy

Good result..game in hand is massive for us

I thought the same thing about their keeper, mushda!

Vokes was okay. Some nice touches but looked a little lost at times, which was understandable. Once he and Beckford get on the same page they'll be dangerous.

Gradel, what can I say? That burst was exactly what we needed at the time. Piss Andy Robinson off now, there's our super sub!

Lucky three points as Norwich deserved something from the game but we did have the better chances.

HAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHA oh man i lost it when I saw that last comment because the whole game i couldn't get that out of my mind, deadset twins ay, i told my mate that as well.

Was Gradel that young black exciting guy that came on and livened things up (sorry haven't been following Leeds as much as I used to), if so he looked quite good and from what I read you guys say he is on a short term loan deal, be good to sign him up

Smashed Bristol 4-0 away. Did not see that one coming, I was gearing myself up for settling for a point. We play some lesser opposition now, time to solidify our position on top during our traditional rubbish period.

we dont normally switch on again until boxing day

Anyone seen The Damned United?

I would like to but I don't want to travel an hour and a half to see it as there's only about one or two cinemas screening it. Might have to buy it on DVD.

What about you?
