Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

suprise surprise
that w***er ref from gillingham got off his charge
despite the gillingham manager and two stewards both testifying that they heard him swear at wise
the charge was found as "unproven":D
**** there a useless bunch at the football league

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

I reiterate my call that telling Dennis Wise to f**k off should be a non-sanctionable offence.

But interesting that for all the whining and moaning by Leeds, Wise and their supporters that the facts will show only one person was guilty of unacceptable behaviour on the day.

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

we got our suspensions out the way, not lets concentrate on the league, thats all that counts this season

Yes

Did I say anything in my post that wasn't factual?

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

Knocked out by Hereford. Ouch! :o

Who cares? We were never going to win the cup and all it was going to do was become a disruption while we challenge for promotion. Better to be out of it now and concentrate on the league, as Drewie said.

right there
in the eyes of the corrupt FL he was the only guilty one
when blind freddie could see the ref was just as guilty

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

Not according to the only people that have been able to look at the facts without prejudice.

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

The good thing about Leeds being where they are is that there supporters are generally the first to able to utter the immortal line "we just want to concentrate on the league".

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

Why would we care if we made it through a few rounds of the FA cup... We are not a club who is happy to make it to the 4th round of the cup, final or who cares really. Since we were not a realistic chance of making it to the final... i agree with drewie - who cares about the cup.
Win the promotion this season, improve the side for next season in the championship and then we will start to care about the Peripheral comps such as the FA cup.

Moomba - do you honestly believe those who resided over the evidence given were truely "without prejudice"??

If the charge was not proven, it means the panel completely disregarded and didnt believe the opposition managers as well as the Leeds managers. In that case, shouldnt both come before the tribunal for lieing to an enquiry?? Won't happen because they do know they were telling the truth, just were never going to sanction the ref. He should of been kicked out yrs ago!

I have no reason to doubt their impartiality.

AS I was not there, and haven't heard all the evidence I'm not prepared to make a judgement. One reason why they might find a charge not proven is that they may have reached a conclusion that the referee was subject to unreasonable abuse carrying out his duties, and was entitled to protect himself. Or it could be that they didn't believe the testimony of some. As I didn't hear it myself I'm not prepared to criticise their judgement on that.

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

hmmm..interesting

Freddy Shepherd wants to buy a one-third share in Leeds United, the Yorkshire Post can reveal.

The former Newcastle United chairman is understood to have been in talks with the Elland Road hierarchy for a couple of months over acquiring a minority shareholding.

It is by no means a done deal, however, with several other would-be investors believed to have been in touch with chairman Ken Bates since the club exited administration during the summer.

Under the proposal by Shepherd, Bates would remain in control with the deal taking the form of an investment as opposed to an outright takeover. This would fit in with the 75-year-old's intention to remain as chairman.

Bates has made no secret of his desire to attract investors to the club and is known to have had lunch with Shepherd in September.

He has been at pains to point out that the club is not for sale and used his programme notes for the recent FA Cup game against Hereford United to reiterate his intention to restore United to former glories.

He wrote: "There are plenty of would-be investors sniffing round Leeds United. It could be tempting to take the money and run.

"Let me assure you, that possibility is not even in the mind of (my wife) Suzannah and myself. We are here to build not just Yorkshire's No 1 club, but one which will compete and take on the so-called greats including Chelsea with (Roman) Abramovich's millions."

Rumours surfaced earlier this season that Shepherd, who banked £37m by selling his shares in Newcastle to businessman Mike Ashley, could be interested in Leeds.

The speculation originated in the North East where the two men, who became friends when in charge of Chelsea and Newcastle respectively, were spotted having lunch together.

It was claimed by sources in the city that Shepherd wanted to buy the Leeds club outright, but the Yorkshire Post understands this not to be the case.

Shepherd, who has also been linked with Sheffield Wednesday in recent weeks, did reveal earlier this month how he hoped to be back in the game by January and claimed that "half-a-dozen clubs" had tried to interest him in either investing or mounting a full take-over.

He then added: "Football is a drug, and a powerful drug. From January I think something could happen.

"I am a northern guy, so obviously I am more interested in northern clubs."

When news of the initial meeting between Bates and Shepherd emerged, the Leeds chairman said: "Freddy is a good friend of mine and has been for years.

"I went up to see him, and we finished up having lunch.

"Inevitably the subject of football came out, and he is still a bit sore about what happened at Newcastle.

"He would like to get back in and I would like an investor, so the two fit in."

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

good to get back on the winners list
local derby this saturday i think? elland rd may put up the sold out sign

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

If only we put our chances away at Cheltenham like we did this morning. We'd be 2pts off top if we did.

Nevertheless, it was a good result and a nice boost for a the big derby against Huddersfield at lunchtime on Saturday.

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

Nice win, good to see Flo score. How long until he gets injured again though?

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

Looking at our December fixture we are half a chance to be top of the league by the start of 2008. Swansea will be a huge game obviously. Remarkable effort considering.
