Leppa sacked

There could be some players really hurting right now.... But don't worry about managing the process/communication properly because the players have a piss up??

Let's think about this - players one day after the end of yet another depressing turn on the park, at the end of another disappointing season, drinking booze, getting major news about changes (most elite athletes live by pretty rigid structures so change is often difficult and emotional) and having open slather opportunities to discuss it with team mates who may have widely different opinions and loyalties who may also be on the booze.

That's got potential happy ending written all over it.

Leppa knew it was coming... That's why he took a shot at the club moving the goal posts during yesterday's presser. Frankly, if he had any chance of staying, that action completely obliterated it. The bitterness with which he spoke was understandable, but also unprofessional.

Players would also have been pretty well up-to-date on the likelihood of what was going on...

You think the manner in which shit news is delivered is the biggest concern this club has ATM?

Not the biggest no, but certainly one of. Honestly, how Sharpless survived the last board dramas is beyond me, especially considering how closely linked he is/was to the failed Springfield deal. But this is a discussion for another thread.

...think he knew after the Adelaide game where he took a shot at the AFL! Theres no coming back after biting the hand that feeds?!

maybe I didn't pay enough attention to the back end of the presser but I didn't have any problem with what sharpless (and Swann) said.

I think particularly in the period before Swann spoke at all (when I was paying most attention) Sharpless hit the nail on the head.

Probably one of the toughest conversations any of us would ever have to have but with 20 people asking you any random question that you almost can't answer either to protect the Club, Leppa, the players or others.

Hope Leppa can come to terms with it and not have bad blood with the club. Would love to be a fly on the wall in a convo between Lethal and Leppa. Hopefully he finds something, I think he would be a great assistant at a top club.

Leppa has the worst W/L record apparently.....the next one is John Barker.

This stat was posted on the main board somewhere.......if true, do we really want John Barker.

I'm curious as to what your expectations would be for someone who gets promoted to interim head coach of Carlton halfway through a season after Malthouse was canned? That should then inform your opinion of his appointment.

..I did use the words apparently and if true

It is true. It's just that context is important. It also wasn't hard to find out if it was true for that matter.

just watched the presser again, thought i may have missed something with all the negative comments re the presser.

i thought Swan and Sharpless handled it fine. the main bone of contention seems to be how the players were notified, i had no problem with it.

the quickest way to get the message out would be via the e-mail/social media path, they are hardly going to ring 40 odd players individually or call them all in for a meeting, the news would be out and about before they were even at the gabba.

IMO all the other statements/answers to questions were just standard fare at any of this type of press conference.

I reckon we might be seriously talking to Stewart Dew. There was mention in the presser from Swanny of protocols in regards to contenders being involved in finals footy. I hope we are. I would like him and Balme as Football Manager.

don't forget he is a club legend ! so some respect please ! the man was handcuffed the whole time , did what he could with a bunch of kids

his objective was to get as many games into them as he could , that will be a major help to the new coach , who ever that is !

A lot of what we ask on here could be found out by other means. No crime in that.

Indeed. I even helpfully provided the information in my initial response.

The players communicate with the club via email on a daily basis. Particularly with wellbeing questionnaires for the sports science dept, so not really a big deal that they were let know via email. I assume that Leppa already knew and would have hinted at such post game yesterday.

His press conference was a pretty big hint.

Actually I DO have a problem with a secret ballot and an emailed message.

This is an organization with over 23000 stakeholders this year. As a board, they are elected to make hard decisions. They are elected to set a direction and tone for the club. They are elected to ensure the professionalism and values of the club from top to bottom.

And yet they are too spineless to stand by their own convictions? Too afraid to be seen and called out for their beliefs and decisions? If you are convinced enough to think a man should be sacked at least have the balls to state the fact with full disclosure. It's gutless and its miserable.

And it's not too much to call 45 players. I've never heard such bullshit in my life. Its 45. Not 450. Or 4500.

These players invested faith, belief and trust in an organisation and coach. For 3 years he held their fates and futures in their hands. Whether that faith was justified and unwavering is irrelevant. To some their head coach was just a coach. To others he was a father figure.

The utter lack of respect to the players, people who invested their passion and hopes in a direction and a belief is appalling.

If the calls couldn't have been made in time delay the press conference.

Once again our agenda is utterly and hopelessly wrong. We're dictated too and governed by people so lacking in understanding that this industry and business is entirely a people focused one... and once again we are skillless and devoid of ability to understand that respect is what ensures belief and results. Being more worried about a press conference and fronting the media than respecting the people who you are dependent on for success is misguided and foolish.

The sacking of Leppa seemed inevitable. Fine.

But the handling of it once again proves we've learned so little about what it takes to be a successful organization that I really really do struggle to find any evidence we've actually taken any steps in the last 3 years to change that.
