He makes a good number of points in this article

  • Shortening the Season
  • Playing on better pitches makes mention of the Showgrounds in Sydney and could probably be the pitch at Marvel as well
  • More Foreigners in the league
  • Squads are too stretched at the moment

I would love to see our season and NZ merge go back to 6 teams get rid of the two teams in Melbourne and Sydney and add in Wellington, Auckland, Otago, Central, Northern Spirits and Canterberry

Then you can have 11 group games per team and then a top 4 final

7 matches + 1 extra round for derby or rivalry round or whatever you want to call it, top 4 final series. Start just before Christmas and end it the weekend before School holidays end. Easy.

"There were a number of reasons why I didn’t play the BBL season just gone, with the biggest reason being that it went totally across the whole school holidays again and then some, and this is such a special time to spend as a family now that my kids are at school full-time."

****ing liar

The IPL still has cheerleaders and it's the best tournament in the world. The Batflip isn't a real issue.
India has the ICC by the cherries

Season length is the only valid point.

Nothing else about the league has changed: always been games at Docklands and Homebush, always been talent depth issues with Aus players unavailable, always had interviews during the game.

Nevertheless, all four points could be fixed if the players wanted it enough. But they don't, and so be it.

Australians barely care about the New Zealand national cricket side. They're not going to give a shit about New Zealand domestic sides and I say this as someone who already watches the Super Smash.

Australians have shown time and time again that if Australia isn't involved in cricket they will not watch it or care about it. No one talked up AB De Villiers coming with South Africa to play as a reason to go watch but as soon as he signs on with an Australian side in the Big Bash it attracts interest. They are the most casual fan base in World cricket.

It'll never get that, but having the window that it has means most sides are touring somewhere in that window unfortunately
In a particularly bored state one afternoon, I worked out an annual calendar that had three domestic/club and three international windows, each of two months.

December/Jan: Domestic (BBL)
Feb/March: International
April/May: Domestic (IPL)
June/July: International
August/Sept: Domestic (UK/CPL)
October/November: International

CA would never give up Boxing Day, though, but it was a nice way to kill some time.
