I know i shouldnt be saying this and of course i am utterly dissapointed about geelongs season but i hope we come last and get teh top draft pick sorry fellow geelong supporters but thats what i want i hope we can just erase this season

if we do come last do we get two picks or was that just carlton?

If we win no more then 5 games, we get a concession pick, to go along with our normal first rounder.

I am also disappointed with how our season has unfolded so far, the only light at the end of the tunnel seems to be these draft picks and possible concessions we might get, and that we have a very young team who will supposidly get better.

I guess this poses the question though... are you going into games hoping we win, (and therefore might lose the concession draft pick) or are you like me, a little bit lost to know what to hope for??

It's going to take more than priority picks to turn things around in CatLand. Geelong needs to take a good hard look at their whole football department... as it stands at the moment, the best young kids in the country would be wasted playing for the Cats.

As for the week-in week-out thing, how can you not go in at least hoping they'll win, even if realistically they don't have a chance (ie. this week)? Call me old-fashioned, but I believe a team should be trying to win every game irrespective of their ladder position. To do less seems like betrayal to everyone who supports the club.

I'm not lost I know exactely what I want.

Every single fellow cat fan I know and talk too want the same thing. We can win two more games for the rest of the year and no more. If we get the two picks + a top 2 pick in the pre-season draft, then at least the pain of this season will, in same way, be worth it. We can get the concession picks and still not have the disgrace of finishing as the wooden spooners. You know the old saying 'nobody remembers who came second '(last that is). If we finish with 6 or 7 wins and climb up to 11th or 12th then I will be devestated. We have a sh*t season and get nothing for it.

I've got some close St Kilda mates and I remember the year they got Riewoldt and Kosie plus a number of recruits like Hamill, Gehrig and Lawrence plus a new coach in Blight they were so exited. They couldnt wait for the new season to start. OK they didnt go that flash that year, but members signed up and the place started to turn around. I really want that to be us next year.

In the days leading up to the game, and on game day itself, i'm still nervous and still hoping like hell we win, if we lose, it hurts big time, BUT, a few days later, i realise there is a slight upside to the loss.

I want to win every game. There is still some kind of respectability left in the season, and it is depressing to see such a good team with a whole lot of potential go down.

You never want to finish down the bottom of the ladder, and the priority picks don't appeal to me as much as a chance to get some respectably back in a season. We have a good young list, and adding another two quality young players to it won’t do that much IMO. Equally good players are picked up in later picks too.

Go Cats!! :)

The common theme seems to be, "yeah, win the games because it's good for morale, but we're really not losing anything if we lose games"-- so I thought I'd give a probable scenario of what the remainder of the season, and what could happen on paper from here-on-in...

Mind you, these are just my predictions, which I hope aren't all that far off from the typical conventional wisdom.

Code:
[size=4]
[b]Sun., 6/7 Port Adelaide [/b](@Kardinia Park) [b]LOSS
Sat., 12/7 Richmond [/b](@TelstraDome) [b]WIN
Sun., 20/7 Western Bulldogs [/b](@K.P.) [b]WIN
Sat., 26/7 North Melbourne [/b](@Manuka Oval, Canberra) [b]LOSS
Sat., 2/8 Collingwood [/b](@TelstraDome) [b]LOSS
Fri., 8/8 Melbourne [/b](@MCG) [b]WIN
Sat., 16/8 West Coast [/b](@K.P.) [b]LOSS
Sat., 23/8 Brisbane [/b](@The Gabba) [b]LOSS
Sat., 30/8 St. Kilda [/b](@K.P.) [b]WIN[/b]
[/size]

So with a 3-10 record already, and a 4-5 record the rest of the way, seven wins will not get us the preferred priority/concession picks.

Even losing seven (or winning two) of those last nine games would be a monumental task, IMO. Looks like we'll win more than that.

That's the way I see it, and I could be wrong...

I am nervous as well, but not so much before the game. In fact, I am not really that excited in the lead up to the game, (different to usual) but before the game I get nervous, (as per usual) and during the game as well. If we lose, I am pretty quiet, disappointed, occasionally annoyed, (as per usual) but after a day or so I realise the bigger picture... the fact it's more advantageous to lose with the AFL rules on concession draft picks as they are at the moment.

Couldnt put it better my self

Anyone know the prospects in this years draft? Last year it was a case of two outstanding choices being available (Wells and Goddard) and then a bunch of good, but not guaranteed prospects, such as Salopek or Mackie. I would hate to see us trade away a Wells or Goddard type pick, but I can live with losing a lesser mortal.

As for the footy being boring, au contraire! Although I'd love to see Geelong participate in the finals, the fact that they won't doesn't end the season. Each week is a new battle, a new prospect, the chance for kids to star and for us to celebrate on the terraces. We may have a worse win-loss record for this season, but we are a better team. If you actually look at last year's wins, we had a great deal of luck from the draw. Most of our wins came against opposition who had had a tough interstate trip the week before and the others were against either interstate teams in Geelong or they were gimme's, such as St Kilda or Melbourne in Geelong. When we didn't have that luck, we tended to lose badly. We may have lost more this year, but at least we are being competitive.

I want us to win as much as the next man, but I'll follow the cats through the troughs as well as the triumphs. I'll criticise them, abuse their mistakes and applaud their goals, and that comes from passion. It rankles me to read things such as Scousecat's statement that he is bored and wants the season to end. That is the attitude of the fairweather supporter.

That's a very interesting point Jim, and when I think about it, what your saying about us being a better team this year, it does make sense.

Here's a look at our 11 wins last season:

Round 3: Kangaroos @ Telstra Dome - close win, Kangas first loss
Round 4: St Kilda @ Geelong - gimmie
Round 5: Fremantle @ Geelong - gimmie
Round 10: Melbourne @ Geelong - gimmie, Demons never win there
Round 11: Carlton @ Telstra Dome - lucky win after siren against bottom side
Round 12: Sydney @ SCG - Swans near rock bottom, Eade's last game as coach, wheels had well and truly fallen off by that time, Lockett and Schwass's last game also
Round 13: Richmond @ MCG - Tigers were pathetic at that time, right in the middle of their losing streak
Round 14: West Coast @ Geelong - Eagles poor away record
Round 15: Collingwood @ MCG - Pies coming off 6 day break and trip to Adelaide the week before
Round 16: Essendon @ Telstra Dome - Bombers coming off 6 day break & trip to Perth the week before
Round 19: St Kilda @ Telstra Dome - lucky win by 1 point

We have been competitive in all our games this year, despite not being able to get the results on the board.

I guess I have been guilty of wanting this season to end, however my passion for the mighty Cats remains the same as it's always been. It is just very hard to see our club going through these tough times on the field, but I am one of those supporters who will stick with the team through the good times as well as the bad.

No standouts this year. More like 6-7 very good players, another 10 or so good players, then it drops off rapidly.

The number 1 pick right now would be Adam Cooney, but that could change any number of times between now and November.

i hope Geelong don't throw any of their remaining games. I know that it doesn't help our draft position by winning games, but i would prefer to see us winning games and causing other teams to miss out on the finals/top 4 positions...

That said, it would be great to have access to 2 of the top 4 picks in the draft, and possibly the first pick in the pre-season draft.
