Lets IMPROVE at the Trade Table

Reckon we should be pretty quiet. The one real hole in our team is a natural quick goal-sneak, although we're able to rotate enough guys through who do the job at the moment. I don't think Davis will do the job for us, and I think we need to plan on the basis that Dick may not be able to get onto the park enough given his history. Other than that, we're pretty good at the moment to be honest.

Look to trade Fraser and Davis - I think realistically, extra reasonable picks or goodly sized pick-upgrades would be a good result.

Jack Anthony is one that I think we should shop around. Can't quite see where he'd ever get back into our 22, but would be quite attractive to a few teams (Sydney, Essendon, Carlton, West Coast, Port - off the top of my head). If we can swap him for a small quick forward of the type we need, I'd be pretty happy with that. (although sad to see Jack go).

A few established rucks on the market this year - Jacobs, Clark, Hale, West / Blake, Minson, Griffin, possibly Cox, Fraser. This on the cusp of interchange rules which should diminish value of ruckmen.

Those requiring established rucks are Hawthorn, Saints, Cats, Dogs, Adelaide. Maybe some others I can't think of right now.

Currie could be a great pick up for us - not a name that will require a big bidding war, and shaded out by other names in the mix as per above.

I'd like to think we could get him a bit cheaper and as investment for the next 2 years behind Jolly. Don't know what it would cost.

Why not get even better?

What would it take to get Clark? our first rounder plus JA/Medders?

It's a very nice idea Bazza and I applaud your industrious thinking, but something tells me that pick 25 and Medders may not be quite enough to get the deal done.

Andrejs Everitt? Meant to be leaving the Doggies, and would give our ruck division some more depth, and give us a back up plan if one of Reid or Brown got injured. Would depend on what his currency is. Would we be able to satisfy the Dogs with Anthony + something? Jack would be a good pick up for them.

From the Age..
Walsh said that unlike last year, when the club had two players in Luke Ball and Darren Jolly whom it targeted from a long way out in trade week, this year, the club's attitude was more about maintaining the current list.

I think that says it all

i think actively going out and offering players to trade would be unwise given our list atm. Would only want to trade players out who actually want to leave the club, and those guys probably dont have much value anyway

So John Mac still isn't in the best 22?

Second rounder for him?

He is one of those who won't have great value around the league, but at Collingwood has great value and is well liked and valued by coaching staff.
Won't be going anywhere.

Great fit for Essendon mind you if he was available as an inside mid. Touch and has good skills.
Would cost a top 20 (or better) pick though, so if a deal was done then it would be something like Pick 25 + McCarthy for Pick 8.

Why not get even better?

Let's face it any player who is not happy at their club would want to be in black and white, we are challenging for another tilt in 2011 and who wouldn't want to be apart of our great club and share in its success?

I would seriously love to get Clark from Brissy, he is a real gem. Can push forward and ruck, has age on his side and wants out.

Don't shoot me for this one but also Tambling, I think he would make a great defensive forward/forward pocket Neon Leon replacement.

We have some decent trade bait, Josh, Medders, Leon and Jumping Jack, all of these blokes may want to move on for greener pastures and game time/money, I cannot blame them, have all been great players for the club, but it might be time to part ways.

What would it take to get Clark? our first rounder plus JA/Medders?

Also if the rumers are right then Josh/Medders will be at GC, should get a 2nd rounder? so our 2nd rounder plus Leon for Tambling would get the deal done.

best 22

Toovs Nath Maxy
Harry Chop Heater
Thomo Swanny Johno
Dids Clokey Tambling
Dicky Dawesom Mcaf

Jolly Pendles Bally

Clark Sidey Beamer Wellers

50/50 Blairy and Leroy the Anvil.

Try and stop that teeheee :thumbsu:

Clark from Bris only wants to go home to WA. Not interested in Vic clubs. Don't need him either. L.Brown is more than sufficient. Not to say he is a bad player, but we have other greater needs.

Tambling I'm starting to like more as a HBF than anything. A bit earlier this season I had interest, but he isn't a forward so I wouldn't draft him as one. I do think he will prove to be a very good pickup for an Adelaide or WBD, but Collingwood don't have a need for him now.

Jack Anthony I would like to consider as not trade bait. Very much an important part of our future and with a strong preseason is every chance to break back into our best 22.

But Fraser, Medhurst and Davis if the right deals come up are all options.

Only 1 player can go as a free agent to GC. Don't know if anyone will yet. My feeling is GC will get Robert Campbell (Ex Haw ruckman). So they won't have a need for Fraser. ANd they will be looking to build for the future rather than add 28+ y/o players. So I don't think Medhurst will be on their radar.

I'd like us not to be active at the trade table. If the right deal for Justin Sherman comes up I would take that. Any other forwards available might come into consideration to possibly release Sidebottom + Beams into the midfield as regulars. Outside of this though, we don't have any huge weaknesses and nothing that can't really be solved in the draft, so I wouldn't go crazy. Jolly + Ball were our final pieces and we have a chance to continue to build this strong neucleus. So let's continue this.

Lets IMPROVE at the Trade Table and we want to trade for Richard Tumbling - are you guys still hungover or what.

My mate is a Richmond supporter and he would be pissing himself laughing. Tumbling without doubt is very average player lucky to be on an AFL list.

$$$$$$$$- that's the issue. GWS will be throwing a lot of cash around and I'd rather put our $$$$ into players like Dids, Swan, D. Thomas, Pendle, Reid, Brown, Shaw, Cloke, Dawes, Jolly, Ball, Sidey, Beams, Harry, Wellers- even Goldy, Jack and Caff.

To be fair though, We will save a lot of cash with retirees and delistings and drafting 1st year players. Throw a couple on the above lot (especially DIds and Swan) on the Vet list in a couple of years and it might still work.

How about the brisbane exodus? Voss, might have to pull the boots on himself the way its going. Sucked in lions, sucked in Voss, watch the fair weather fans drop off like flies.

In my opinion, we want higher draft picks. The current generation is in place and will eventually put pressure on our cap and or start to fade in the next 5 years. More youth. more pressure for spots more enthusiasm.

Can't really believe we are trying to get more ruckmen at Collingwood, though a replacement for Fraser would be nice.

Wood should be the player who takes over from Jolly, simple as that. He needs to get a few games in the team to do this though, and Jolly last missed in 2005...

Brisbane are going to want picks then right? surely we can get some upgrades and have a word in Clarks ear and mention another tilt at the flag, why is he playing football? we got the best draw card in the AFL, chance of winning flags.

If we can get Clark then the side is set for 5 years. Its nightmare stuff for the rest of the competition.

He is the one player that would make us unstoppable without doubt. He can swing forward, back and ruck. Mobile and is AA quality.

We have 4 decent players on the table, Josh, Medders, Neon and Jack, we just need to use those players to get Clark on the list..

Tons of cap space will be free to upgrade our players salary.

Tarks, Retired 3-400k
Presti, Retired 3-450k

Medders 3-450k
Josh 3-500k
Neon 3-500k

all on decent money

Jack 2-350k

That 6 players we all probably had in our best 22 and are getting paid best 22 rates, the position the club is in right now is amazing, we must use it to advantage.

We can do straight swap for Taz on any of the above except Tarks and Presti.

Then use the rest to upgrade picks to offer brissy, so the bombers want J-Mac? I rate him but an upgrade on our 1st rounder will get it done, J-mac our first rounder for bombers 1st rounder? if not we keep and move on.

Someone said we must continue the draft route, no you do not go draft when your window is open, we have more than enough youth on the list we need to throw everything possible to win the 2011 premiership then worry about the rest later, its now or never, do not for one second assume we will win next year, we must improve, Clark is exactly what the list needs..
