Well we've won 3 in a row, beaten a top 8 contender easily and are playing some pretty good footy at the moment. Because of this we have every right to feel excited about the future, but I really hope that we're not getting ahead of ourselves and thinking that we're now a genuine contender for the 8 ourselves.

To become a contender we need to back up last nights performance over the next 3 weeks before we have the bye. Its the same as when we won the 4 straight last season, everyone started thinking that we had turned the corner and yet we came out the next 2 weeks and lost by 50 against the Roos and 82 to the Pies.

Next 2 weeks we face the Dogs and Bombers and if we have truly turned the corner then we should, at minimum, win one and be right in it in the other one. Do that and we can then start talking about how we're on our way.

On the other hand if we come out and get blown away like we did last year, the bubble will burst and the media and opposition fans will be back sinking the boots in.

Good luck with that:D

But seriously, after what we have been through over the past generation it's time to vent our frustration and enjoy the ride.

But as you have rightfully noted the bubble may burst , this year, and if it does we should keep our knives sheathed. Anyone with half a brain should know that we are on the right track.

I take the op's point but disagree.

Let's get carried away. it is Dimma's job to keep young player feet on the ground. However we pay the bills, pay the wages, suffer the defeats. We deserve to wallow in 3 successive wins and the hope for more. We deserve to roar and shout and look to big games late on pushing for the finals.

Go Tiges. The Tiger Army never did introspective balancing acts when we were winning and we won't start now.....Carn the Mighty Tigers and rip the pups to pieces.

Are we getting carried away??

We are celebrating our young team's great win over a top 4 contender with goals spread over 10 players. :thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

As for the supporters, Tigersheads are passionate & loyal lot who will celebrate every win. And why not. :)

GO TIGERS!

What's this not getting carried away rubbish? Enjoy each victory, especially the good ones, and let the coaching panel and players worry about next week. You haven't had a lot to scream about of late, so enjoy.

Gotta say guys, isn't it nice to have a good coach for a change? Hardwick has done a great job (no surprises here), and it looks as though he's finally weeding out the Wallace factor.

Do me a favour? Stop letting Carlton beat you!!! :)

Correct. It's the well paid coach whose job it is to focus on next week. We are success starved fans and we shoudl roar and shout at he game and fantasise about succeass after it.

Carlton? Don't worry about Carlton Ad Hawk. There is a bigger nastier beast on the prowl now and the Blue platoon are in the beast's sights.

I agree lets not get carried away or get ahead of ourselves , but we do have to make plans ........ how much do finals tickets cost these days ? will our first final be on a friday sat arvo or nite ? will it be at the G or interstate ? flights & accom to book if so ....... gotta go so much to do and think about , but remember stay calm :):):):)

there is nothing wrong with members on the Big Footy forum getting carried away, we can celebrate as much as we want - I know I do.
What counts is that the players and coaching staff dont get carried away which I am sure they wont as they will be sticking to the game. Best overall game by the Tigers I have seen in a long time

I agree with the OP, however there's nothing wrong with celebrating a fantastic win, and speculating where we might end up, as long as there is logical thought process behind it and not pure emotion.

I personally think we are definitely good enough to contend for finals this year, but we are only just in the 8, and if either Melbourne or West Coast win this week, we're out, and if both win we slip to 10th.

Enjoy it for now and take it one week at a time i say.

All I'm trying to get across is that we need to temper our enthusiasm a little because as a young side its quite possible to go out in the next 2 weeks and get beaten and suddenly people will forget about us beating Fremantle and start asking questions again.

hmm i wonder if Dimma who has stated that we are his 23rd player wants us to tone it down a bit.

Keep the lid on it yourself.

I want to celebrate - that is if celebration is allowed these days.
No problem with celebrating, just don't want to see people getting carried away too soon only to have it blow up in their faces.

Might not want us to tone it down as supporters but he does share the same sort of sentiments I'm trying to get across here:

''The great thing from our point of view is we beat a top-four side, which we haven't been able to do since my time here so it's a great win for us,'' said Hardwick, in his second season at Punt Road.
''It's probably the best win we have had at our footy club [since my arrival], but we understand the difference between a Fremantle, no disrespect to them, but to a Collingwood, a Geelong. Those teams are another step again. Until we start knocking off those teams or getting a hell of a lot closer - we got pumped by those guys, probably by 10 goals each, three or four weeks ago - once we start doing that we may get some credibility.''

agreed. lets enjoy it. how good is it to see so much class in our young team. cotch, martin, roo, lids, even bachar slotting them from 50 out. the list goes on - something that I have just never seen before. not since the early 80s anyway.

wooooohooooooooo!!!!

The great thing to see this year is while sometimes we've had a slow(ish) start (particularly against Hawthorn), our second halves have seen no fade aways.

No. of goals since half time.

Round 2: 5 against St Kildas 6
Round 3: 4 against Hawks 6
Round 4: 8 against Pies 11
Round 5: 11 against Roos 6
Round 6: 9 against Lions 9
Round 7: 14 against Freos 5

It's the stats like that which get me excited. I realise last nights win was against a team that we've beaten more than lost and we made a few defensive mistakes but Freo have been in great form and are seen as potential finals players this year..

To beat them was great, and to smash them in the second half was awesome.

Let's hope that we can keep it going :) We just need to start smashing other Melbourne clubs like this now!

Lets not get carried away? Tipping my $150 bonus for making finals for the FTF, is seriously in the gun.

It has nothing to do with 3 in a row and beating a contender. It has all to do with the tigers playing top notch footy and the way we are moving the ball. Not to mention that after a decade or so of watching tigers not being able to execute a kick, we have a bunch of players now that kick the ****ing thing like it should be. We have a FF that doesnt miss, we have a tall kid that can get it 5 times and kick 3, we have a midfield that one week one steps up(Dustin), the next when he is quiet, or should i say quieter, the next steps up(Cotch) and then you have the support cast, that keep on keeping on. Then you have the enforcer Rance, who is now executing with minimum errors. Have to say this about him, his field kicking is second to none.
Lets put the doggies out of their misery next week and 6 on the trot is on the radar. ;)

We could all put in ten thousand dollars each to buy and rebrand the Nylex sign to say "Tigers 2011 Premiers" and our combined feral optimism still wouldnt match the Carlton board.

That said, celebrate the ****ery out of it while you can and I'll tell you now, this next week is our biggest test. If our players can stay switched on and either compete or win then we can say we've well and truly arrived as a force, irrespective of how the year goes from there.

Us supporters can celebrate.

I'm sure Dimma and the coaching staff will take care of the rest.

Why not enjoy and embrace a sniff of the finals and if they keep improving they will hit the finals with a bullet.

Lets face it Pies, Cats, Hawks, Blues and Swans & Dockers prob there. Suns, Lions, Port have no hope with Roos also unlikely**********
That 2 spots available for 8 teams- Keep it up Tigers, Eagles, Bombers you are all playing champagne football.
