Think this was said somewhere else tonight, but I can imagine Mick really making some changes with our assistants at years end.
And as I said... Barker should be the first one out the door. I dont see Gavin going... or Rob Wiley :D but Barker is for shite and really needs to go.

Dont know about Capuano though... he does a reasonable job I think. We could be better... but

I know that :p I just love getting in the fact that Barker is not a forwards coaches chocolate starfish and the sooner we piss him off and get in someone who will work with some of the boys on their kicking instead of just standing there with the jumping pad on his back encouraging the boys to learn the wrong marking techniques (as well)... the better off the boys will be.

Someone in one of the other threads suggested that the only reason why we didnt get rid of him last year when we had the clean out was because we didnt want to pay out on too many long contracts and I believe that could be the reason... so expect him to be the first person out the door at the end of the year (hooray).

You wanted me to be a mountain
I'd rather be a river
Water flow can wash a hill away
You wanted me to fly
I want to get high

Casboult's performance was the biggest unexpected positive to come out of the game.

To see him attack the packs the way he did and clunk contested marks all over the ground as well as ably give Kruezer a chop out in the ruck was very pleasing. Clearly this was his best performance for the club so far.

If he continues in this way he will cement his spot and I doubt we will see Hampson again this year.

Hammer can do it with a decent forwards coach... but the guy we have is shite.
I dont really think you need a 'specialist' to teach you how to mark.

the correct coaching and skills work should be easy enough. I do admit to not knowing much about footy drills but catching a ball.. you cant teach what levi can do.

The most important facet of the game is kicking. He is probably in the top 5 worst in the comp... He will cost games if he is relied on. Don't pins your hopes on him just yet.

15 disposals, 10 marks, 5 hitouts and 1 goal.
Says it all really.

two-thirds of his disposals coming from marks is a fantastic result for Levi, especially considering that very few of his marks were easy ones.

Aside from his kicking, the next step for Levi will be his ability to gather possessions when the ball is on the ground. At times he looks a bit lost. He is never going to be silky at ground level like Waite, but if he gets a bit of mentoring from Kreuze we could have a fleet of tractors on our hands...

I've said it before, but while there's no doubt he can be a bit of a liability going for goal (but hopefully this can be improved once we get rid of Barker or something), but he's a genuine big presence and very hard for any defender to beat. I've seen him make the likes of Sauce Merritt look silly both on the lead and in a strength contest.

We generally sorely lack this kind of beastly tall player who is a natural in contested marking and hitting packs hard, so regardless of kicking, I think he's extremely handy to have.

And he hasn't even yet played 20 games.

agreed its and aspect that is naturally inbuilt. There's a bloke in our local league who regularly kicks 100-150 goals a season and someone asked him how he kicks so many goals, his response was "I judge the mark correctly, some other people misjudge it by 2cm and therefore miss it"
Kicking on the other hand is a skill that can be improved ( not saying everyone can kick like watto if they practise a lot) Kicking is ALL about two things balance and ball drop, if Levi wants to improve his kick I recommend Pilates or dancing lessons.

You would be surprised at what a good coach can teach.

Barker has the guys practicing their marks by jumping up into a bag. Great if your going for pack marks but not so great for marking on the lead with no pack to jump on. Waite knows when to jump on a lead as does Levi and Rowe. Mitchell should as well but apparently he wants to wrestle all the time.

But with Ratts trying to turn Hampson into a ruck/forward, he left his development in the hands of Barker and he has screwed up. This, like Levi's kicking, can be corrected by a good coach.

We just need a good forwards coach.

Have seen Mitchell a couple times and he can do the jumping and leading right now it may be a confidence thing or maybe he has been told to work on one on ome body work.

But this a thread for denim.
Hhopwfully he can keep it up can be very handy link up chf
Good job son

Far out I hope not!! He's too busy teaching all the boys in yarrawonga how to drink! Keep him as far away from Carlton as possible.
Completely agree Mrs EB. Sad to think though what he might become if he refuses to grow up.

But back to Levi Buckets, good reminder that he has played less than 20. It might be hard to unlearn, relearn kicking action.

But improving goal scoring from forward 50 entries is not only about kicking action. I can imagine that with game time experience and effective coaching we will continue to see improvements in Levi's goals and goal assists. Knowing where to position himself regarding distance and angle from goal, judging when to give it off to the running brigade, working together as a forward unit based on games experience together. If he and his teammates gel together I can imagine some exciting times ahead.

I think that the club is seeing Levi as a lead up CHF with Mitchell being a more of a stay at home leading full forward. Because of his age, his two shoulder injuries and a severe lack of core strength development, the coaches are probably encouraging Mitchell to wrestle as much as possible to help develop that core strength through every means possible... and also to learn how to put defenders off their game by wrestling them to the ground.

We already know that Levi is a beast when it comes to upper body and core strength, but then he hasnt missed 2 years of upper body training because of shoulder injuries. He was able to work on his upper body because he only suffered PCL injuries... which affected his legs.

I dont think that it is a matter of relearning his kicking action, but adjusting it so that he is getting the best out of what he has. As someone else said, it could be a touch mental as well so I would introduce something like the Lloyd grass throwing routine in so that he stops thinking about the goal and does something that interrupts the racing thought processes. A relaxation routine... put the ball on the ground, pull up the socks, pick up the ball, grab a handful of grass and throw it in the air.

He has a monster boot on him. We have seen the footage of him slotting them from anywhere on the 50 in the VFL and there was that 50m snap from the boundary line against the scum last year. If he latches on to one... I can see him sailing it through from 60.
