Levi Casboult. What actually happened to him?

"They do it at every other club, whether it's AFL, VFL or whatever. It's part of being in a football club," Casboult said.

He is bang on here.

I know for a fact that StKilda do / did a 'beep test' with shots of beer for every new draftee. My mate at the club gave us the inspiration for our day one schoolies fun some years back.

Similarly Geelong have / had some sort of game involving blindfolds and spinning a wheel to see what the 'punishment' of alcohol would be.

Melbourne had a flight night style, private event last year where the rookies in particular were the butt of many rule game punishments that they were unfortunately not told about, but had to learn as they went on.

The 'induction' of new draftees is going nowhere, and as Levi said, happens at every club.

I played football for 19 years , at 5 different clubs .

This sort of thing happened at all those clubs , and appears to happen at most sporting clubs . ( not just footy ) . Specially male only teams .

Levi's OK . Happy to be at Carlton .

Let's stop the muck-raking , and get on with life . There's nothing more in this story . :thumbsu:

It took 500 years to break out of the dark ages into the Renaissance. I wonder why?

Because of alcohol?

Nah, because nongs like you agree with certain nongs above. That's how we've always done it will rule forever when good people do nothing or apathetic idiots fan the flames of a toxic culture all because it's seen as too hard to push back against the weight of past habit.

That's how we've always done it was part of the cry of the slavers over the emancipators hundreds of years ago. Same goes for the drunken husband with his broken wife on the kitchen floor, the predatory uncle outside the kids door, the driver with no seat belt on, the kid tossing his ice-cream wrapper on the footpath.

Clearly, I'm not suggesting these issues carry the same gravity or cause anywhere near similar levels of damage. My point is society eventually reaches a critical mass stage with behaviours that result in obvious, proven injury - physical and psychological - to its citizens.

Here's a word for ya and it's a verb as well as a noun:

Change. :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

If you consider binge drinking to be part of a 'toxic culture' then good for you. Just don't expect 100% of people to agree with you.

I think you are missing Thy's point.

I'd ask what you call it but I already know the answer.

If you've honestly never ever been drunk - then please feel free to hold the moral high-ground here. Otherwise...

If I'd never been drunk I'd have no right to even buy into the issue. You are obviously a teacher of some note. Hats off.

You must have RSI from all that typing T :D

Did anyone see the rumoured Casboult interview on Channel Eddie?

No TG. I sat through through the 6.00pm news and didn't see anthing.

I did however come across a 3AW interview with Levi's father Leigh where he was asked some pretty direct questions. Interestingly Levi's father says that someone from Carlton did ring him to pick up Levi - which is contrary to what Levi was quoted in the paper. On the point of whether a Carlton player rang his father, it seems that the Sun & Age were not beating up this part of story like some posters would like to believe.

Nothing wrong with a bender. Get off your high horse and walk to your bloody church group.

So long as no fighting is had, nobody gets behind the wheel or people abused as a result of angry drunks, I say drink up. They work hard, let them play hard.

I just thought I'd point out that the 2 things are not necessarily mutually exclusive. Consider, this chain of events.

Earlier in the day:

Levi: "Hey dad, I'm gonna be drinking at this thing later today, would you mind picking me up?"

Levi's dad: "Sure son, what time should I be there?"

Levi: "It's s'posed to finish at about 4:00."

Levi's dad: "OK, see you then."

Time passes, dramas unfold, cruise is cut short by the organisers and Levi is at the dock at 3:00 pm instead of 4:00.

Players at the scene call Levi's dad: "Hey Mr Casboult, players X, Y & Z here. The cruise has finished early and Levi's in no state to get himself home, can you come get him?"

Not really. If you'd never been drunk then you could say 'binge drinking is a highly dangerous and morally reprehensible habit and AFL players should be smarter and more professional than to stoop to these lows'.

As it is you can be seen to be hypocritical.

What do you mean by this? How can I be seen to be hypocritical? Are you 8? All this time to respond and this? Go ask your parents how you'd respond if I'd written: "binge drinking is a highly dangerous and morally reprehensible habit and AFL players should be smarter and more professional than to stoop to these lows".

Wait a sec - you've flown on your high horse after I took the piss out of the slightly delusional and wholly sensationalist opinions furthered by 30yr old Blue on the subject of binge drinking. As such, one would assume that you are backing up said poster.

As by implication you've admitted to binge drinking in the past, I am highlighting that you can be seen to be hypocritical.

Comprende?:o

Sensationalist? No son the sensation you are experiencing is the blood draining from your face the next time Fev messes up and your sponsors threaten to walk if he is not immediately terminated and you realize you lost Hendo and Lucas for a few games from a player with a history of trouble. Good luck with that. :footy:
