Not to sure but apparently Williamstown paid the dogs to sign on Picken as a rookie to give him a chance because they knew he could and would make it in the big time.

Im honestly not to sure if that's the way it went but to anyone that does can you please post.

yes it is true

they are giving the dogs 20k a year to go towards rookies but it does not have to be a williy player.

i think it has more to do with giving a bit back and building a strong relationship between the two clus

That is not quite right, you've got it the wrong way around.

Willi have said they will pay $20K to any team who rookies a Willi player.

i am pretty sure they have committed that money to the dogs regardless not 100% sure but think it was talked about on the website or the small paper.

if anyone can confirm please do so

My understanding is that they are allocating $20,000 a year to us to rookie a mature player ie. VFL, SANFL, WAFL, with the club being irrelevant.

They may also be committing money to any club willing to rookie a Willy player, but I'm unsure on that.

Looked good. Seems to thrive in a contest and I thought he did a great job of nullifying Harvey's impact on the game.

Sensational effort from Picken. I'd go so far as to saying he was a matchwinner. Harvey always seems to destroy us or do something freakish to lift their spirits... didn't happen today.

He is going to be a handy player to have when it comes to nullifying oppositions midfield but Every time he had the footy he looked lost. He doesn't know how to use the pill properly from what I saw.

Very harsh. he did a great job on the heart of North. How many times have we watched Boomer destroy us???? Not today!!!!

You can chalk alot of that down to being the first game jitters. Poise and composure are rare early traits for afl players, even slightly older ones

Considering it was wet and scrappy i thought the few times he did have the ball he looked composed. Slipped through some tackles and used the ball well most of the time.

He done his job well don't get me wrong. Us I understand its only his first game and he had the jitters in wet weather football but his disposal just wasn't up to scratch today and hopefully he can improve.

Picken was great today, Harvey always dominates us and he did nothing today.

If he can shut down an opposition star like that every week, I don't care too much if his disposal isn't absolutely A-grade. B+ will do =]

In terms of what we brought him in for, he was fantastic.

There was one passage that ended in a goal (I think) where he was involved twice which really impressed me.

Wouldn't mind seeing him have a crack at trying to negate Foley next week.

Eh, what game were you watching?

I think you're going off previous games. I agree his disposal in general needs to improve but it was OK today. He didn't really make any mistakes that I saw, and actually looked composed enough when he had the pill.

Didn't you see the spin out of a couple of tacklers, and then the handball to a player which resulted in a goal?

Good game by him.

No I did watch the game this afternoon and did see his disposal. I didn't say he messed up any kicks or any handballs today. I said he can improve on his disposal because he just didn't look confident/ composed when the pill was in his hands. His first option was to dish it off to any player near by wither it be by foot or by hand. I don't mind that if he was playing down back but to play in the middle and have that sort of instinct always at the back of your mind will cause us problems in the future because teams will latch on to this and he will be found out. In all honesty though I didn't really care how he went today I was more worried about how Harvey went so he gets my thumbs up this week. Hope he goes alright Monday after next against the Tigers and shows us what his disposal is really about.

Pfft, first game, on the big stage of the G, gave Harvey a bath, couldnt ask for more from a first gamer, give him a break. I think we've all seen a lot worse.

Put Harvey in as my SC Captain this week (forgot to even nominate one last week!) because he always seems to smash us. The fact that I didn't notice one of the most distinctive little men in the league all day today told me that Picken did his job. My SC team will suffer, but I couldn't give a FF about that if the Dogs get over the line!

I agree in that his hands were not great early. He fumbled the ball probably the first 5 or 6 times he was in a position to take possession. Having said that I think he improved as the game went on and should get a lot of confidence out of it.

The best part is we now have a potential top-notch tagger.

yes it was fantastic to take that little "squib" academy award seeker out of the game for a change!

i have always stated that we need a tagger to take the likes of harvey and judd out of the game as they seem to destroy us every time we play those teams..

well done picken !

I think he is a good tagger for Boomer only because they are similar in size and speed.. Against a Kerr or a Bartel he would struggle.

Good job either way!
