Ok so which mids taken in the same draft as Shiels would we be willing to do a straight swap with him for?

Luke Shuey
Dayne Beams
Rory Sloane
Stephen Hill
Hamish Hartlett
Daniel Rich
Steele Sidebottom
Jack Ziebell
Daniel Hannebery

Almost every player on that list has a higher profile than Shiels and I would seriously consider doing the trade.

I'd trade him for Sloane or Beams but that's it

Was watching On the Couch one night and they were comparing the bottom 6 players for the top clubs.

Needless to say Brown put Shiels in there. Piggy Dunstall let him know he was way off the mark with that one!

Kept bringing it up for the rest of year.

Point being, Brown is an idiot. And Shiels is a gun.

Without dismissing the captain potential of Roughy & Lewis is Shiels a no brainier to take the captaincy when Hodge is done??? Looks to be the logical choice for long term leadership at the Hawks with a supporting cast of "stars" for a couple of seasons while we wave them off.
If he is the heir apparent why not take the reigns a couple of seasons early? The two former mentioned are champions & are both worthy of the role but, as in years past, there are many that can fulfill the role but only a select few can carry the mantle during their respective careers.
Personally I think Shiels is the next gen Hawk to lead the side while the Generals finish their careers strongly assisting in the transition over the next 2-3 years. To be given the role, while the stars are there, would speak volumes to the conviction in his leadership skills while not throwing him in the deep end once they have retired.
He has sacrificed his natural attacking game for a number of seasons and will be let off the leash, if not this year, in 2017 & a new stopper will have been appointed & the true contested ball winning skills of Shiels will be on display along with his new role as Captain.
I think we'd all agree Hodge will likely carry captaincy into 2016.

Lewis is considered by many to be the next in line but given he will be 31 in 2017 and Shiels 26 (both have birthdays late in April) it seems unlikely that the club will go with Lewis for just 1 or 2 years as captain (assuming he retires at the end 2017/18) when Shiels is in his prime and more than capable.

To Brown's credit he didn't shy away from it when proven to be off the mark. He knew he made a blue.

Nathan Buckley loves him. Is a big fan.
No wonder he does. Liam has exactly what Bucks loves in his players.

Great determination and the love for hardwork and improving one's self. Bucks is a perfectionist and Shielsy does everything you'd want your players to do. On and off-field.

That's the reason so many cowboys like Didak, Shaw, Johnson, Thomas etc were happily moved on.

Really shocked he wasn't top 10 in the BnF!

In Browns defence, who are Hawthorns bottom 6 isn't the easiest question though

Looking at the Grand Final 22, who are our bottom 6?

Based on all of 2015 but just considering the GF side I'd say the bottom 6 was Suckling, Hale, Schoenmakers, Hill, McEvoy and Puopolo.

Not a bad bottom 6 by any stretch.

I'd also have Duryea, Stratton, Frawley and Lake in line for bottom 10. Shiels/Breust possibly the next cabs off the rank but there's only cream above them at that point.

That just goes to show how difficult it is to name the bottom 6. You have included Lake, who is a Norm Smith medallist and absolutely crucial to our success in the big dance over the last 3 years. That said, I can understand why you might have included him.

Watched the last qtr of the 13 PF (again) last night. Stratton was huge taking 2 big, big marks. Hard to say 'bottom 6' after watching that. I guess there are similar arguments for every player.

I wouldn't even try to give it a go.

McEvoy was excellent on GF day, harsh bottom 6.

Love the way Pup goes about his footy. Tough and uncompromising!! But I wouldn't say he's underrated , he does get a fair mention in our games, he isn't an outstanding midfielder or more like his role doesn't allow him to be but, if he could now kick a few more goals (particularly from set shots) and win more outside ball then he will elevate himself even more.

The whole team was excellent on GF day really. I named a bottom 6 based on all of 2015 but only considering those in the GF 22. It's not that harsh when you consider the quality of those above them though.

Lake and Stratton aren't in the bottom 6 I named. They are in the bottom 10 but above the bottom 6.

ie. Suckling, Hale, Schoenmakers, Hill, McEvoy and Puopolo are players 17-22 (in no particular order). While Duryea, Stratton, Frawley and Lake are 13-16 (again in no particular order).

Though I think I might be giving too much weight to Frawley's two standout efforts keeping Franklin and Kennedy goalless. Outside of those games his body of work wasn't as great as Puopolos in 2015. Perhaps a bit of slack given his injury and having to learn our structures.

The names above that bottom 10 are Gunston, Smith, Rioli, Hodge, Birchall, Roughead, Burgoyne, Mitchell, Shiels, Breust, Gibson and Lewis (in no order). Hard to argue they don't deserve to be that high.

They would all be WC players. Oh! Our bottom 6, well the more responses you get, the more names you will have. It's an impossible question.
