The Tigers are adamant Deledio must do more before he moves into the midfield on a permanent basis.

Deledio has frustrated fans and coaches alike since he was drafted in 2004.

That whole Tambling argument is just as relevant!!!
Intreresting though, would have thought we've done well with Lids. Good to see even our stars are challenged to keep improving!

Im more than happy we got Lids. Bringing up Tambling/Franklin into this is pointless. For Dally to say Grigg and Jackson are ahead of him in the mid-field must privately hurt.

This sounds like a well and truly orchestrated plan to inform the supporters and members how Lids is being handled, as well as giving him plenty of drive going in to a very important part of our season.

Personally i am getting sick of the deledio bashing each week. I bet he is to.
It sounds like the coaches are trying to cover their own tracks here to be honest! Everyone who has half a brain would realise that Lids should be in the midfield bar our coaching staff. If we want him to be in our best player he needs to play there. Coaching staff r coming up with pitiful excuses and to be honest i think the media and supporters have had a enough.
FFS Conca played there last week & Edwards is in the midfield rotation each week.
Lids needs to be primarily Midfiled resting forward. With his marking strength& 3 on the interchange he s a real weapon. Our coaching staff still havent worked it out yet, just have a look at Jobe Watson and how many goals he has kicked. Its not like we have numerous options in the forward line
Lets be grateful he knocked back big offers from rival clubs to stay at punt road.
Perhaps the journos and Coaching staff should be focusing on guys like DITCH Edwards who have been in the system for four years and continue to let us down or our recruiting to dept for not addressing our on field mess of a list!

I think back to 2009 and when Rawlings (just after Plough I think) told Lids he was going to drop him if he didn't lift and Lids responded by playing career best footy and won the b and f....

Seems a bit strange that these comments would be made by a member of coaching staff if they weren't intended for a purpose.

Not sure obviously but that's my take on it.

I just love the "he probably should be (the best player at the club)" .....he probably is, and has been in our top 3 for the last 3 or 4 seasons. He's only 24 so he is just starting his peak and if he can put games together like round 2 and 4 where he played more midfield he will easily be our best player and one of the best in the game.

If anything I think the article makes Daly look like a bit of an idiot with a few of his quotes.

Really really do not like this effort by Daly. It's very dissapointing for him to come out and slag him in the media when they have been unfairly on his back all year. He was our best player against the saints and Collingwood.

They are playing him in the wrong spot, whenever he goes into the middle ha ctually dominates.

One more thing. If we are all about future and improving and not current results.....then why the F*** do we have to play Deledio back to strengthen our bac 6. If he is going to move into the midfield long term send him in there now and make the back 6 deal being without him now.

Also if Conca plays back pocket like he has been named...then the coachign staff are duds

I think these quotes have been slightly stretched by the Hun to make it seem more of an issue than it is. It's hard to tell without seeing the original interview, but it seems like he was just explaining that they have a process that may not be to their immediate maximum benefit, but will result in Lids and the side becoming as good as he/it can possibly be.

Even if it is a roast, no doubt it is a much smaller roast than the dropping threat delivered by Rawlings, though.

People around here (and elsewhere) have been calling for him to move to the midfield. Obviosuly the club was getting tired of it and responded. I doubt anything was said that Lids hasn't known for ages.

But here is what I think the club is telling *supporters*.

1) We have a good enough midfield we don't *need* Lids there.
2) Lids has deficiencies in his game which will be helped more by playing him off the the HBF.
3) Moving him to the midfield IS part of the longer term plan.


Or another way of looking at it..Lids is a good player, but he's only 90% of what he could be, so while we have 'development time', they're working on the other 10%.

I think the coaching staff are well aware of where Deledio is best suited, the problem is that he just doesn't deliver whole games like he played the 3rd quarter last week to warrant a spot in the midfield. Which is why they have probably delivered this public rocket to try and get him to start doing just that. When he starts consistently taking games by the scruff of the throat and dominating then we'll see him move forward and play where he should be played.

Right now the ball is in his court and I for one will be quite keen to see how he responds today. If he puts in a full game like the 3rd quarter last week then he'll be a step closer to the midfield. If he puts in a performance like he did against the Blues and Hawks its safe to assume that we'll see him hanging around the backline a little while longer.

Lids doesn't work hard enough defensively is basically what they are saying. Everybody knows he should be play in the centre but the coaching staff want him to earn it.

He is the best player at the club and has been for 3 years, but has a habit of forgetting about his man. He did really well on Goddard tho.

^^ Conca may well have played down back for much the same reason , and was left on Milne to knock a little bit of cockiness out of him .
In regards to Lids I think it's as much a problem when playing defence he struggles to know when to attack and when to defend ?

Completely agree. That's the problem with the Herald Sun. Read this article and separate the quotes from the parts they have supposedly paraphrased and they don't always bear a whole lot of similarity.

...with his class/age/experience lids ought to dominate and influence a games outcome now like a lenny hayes but martin and cotchin leave him for dead in that respect....

...always get the impression lids coasts along on his talent...
