Hasn't been much talk of this. Even though maybe prolonged, I thought it was a very good move to put him back there. Broke the lines, set up a lot of plays, showed composure and most importantly hit targets. Thought McMahon was good for his standards also hitting targets. Question is where to play Deledio? Showed he can play anywhere pretty much similar to Goddard. Good forward, midfield and back. Our main problem for awhile now has been skills coming out of the backline so I would leave him there especially with the possibility of Cousins coming back in next week. Thoughts?

Yep. agree keep him at half back. still gives him the option of breaking through middle and with his kicking ability will get a chance to goal on occasions. cotch and cuz can add the midfield set up.

If we continue to play him there i think you will find opposition coaches will drag him back to the goalsquare to take him out of the game. Surprised Laidley didn't do it last night.

would prefer him in the midfield or forward where he can do damage, they got a lot of players who can play off half back.
Newman? McMahon? Bowden? Polo? Tambling? All solid but don't have quite same level of class or skill or ability to consistently hit targets. he can mop up at ground level which we have lacked down back. At least needs to rotate through there - i'd say at least half of his game time at half back

Fair point, but in mid-field he gets tagged heavily, so wherever he plays he needs to get used to opposition coaches plotting to negate his influence. Part of his development - in any case who says he'll be a liability if dragged back to goal square? He plays tall and has reasonable defensive skill.

He should play in the middle. Given he played a very good game last night but I still think playing him in the midfield is the best thing for us.

Deldio is a midfielder. Just needs more support from team-mates to get free from taggers. Tambling is a natural back-flanker and I'd prefer to see him back there.

whether off HB or in the midfield Lid's needs to be used correctly and as stupid as this sounds last night and the second half of last week is the first time we have started utilising Lids in a manner which benefits him and us most.

He is the perfect release player, pace and beautiful skills. For too long hes been inside dishing off handballs to release players who are nowhere near his class, but in the second half last week and for much of yesterday I was very pleased to see him being the release guy from congestion to use his pace and skill to break the lines. ....and teammates are starting to put on blocks for him haleluja

Could we finally be learning?

25 possessions, 9 contested, plenty of bounces and run and carry, these are the games he should be playing, great all round.

Yep. Winning the hard ball was a string he added to his bow last year but he is our most dangerous player in space. Geelong players as good as Corey and Bartel block to give Ablett room, we need to do the same for Lids.
