^^^ Remember it well Goldy. Although, given Lids has had a four year head start, maybe it's a bit more of Might And Power - Doremius situation, with Doremius just getting up this time.

WAS on both Salamander and Doremius on both those particular days, but felt every bit a winner despite the second placings. Gave a great sight for my investment and both inevitably bowed to great winners.
Interesting assessment, the neck and neck. Poll currently shows a 29-27 result in favour of Cotchin. Certainly nothing between them both!

if anybody wants to see how good cotchin is PLEASE watch the first quater of richmond v carlton rnd 14 in 1 quater what he did was just as good as ablett, judd, anybody.............truly amazing he is really really
special

Maybe in a couple years when he proves he can do it for 4 quarters. He still has questions over his engine so at the moment hes nothing more then potential. I think it's really unfair for you and everyone to be putting so much jynx on the kid. I bet if he doesn't live up to his expectations you along with the rest of the deluded supporters will be calling for his head just like you will if Cousins mishaps again.

Are you all forgetting that Palmer and Rioli absolutly dominated the competition yet no one talks about them as much as Cotchin but they're all first year players still developing. Getting hopes up on certain things then getting crushed when it doesn't happen isn't the best is all I'm saying.

i watch a hell of a lot of footy during & after the season, just yesterday i watched the round 14 game this kid is special believe me.
when you see him do things that we have gotten used to players likme judd & ablett do & to see it in a kid thats 18 with a disrupted pre season
you can see he is somethin special.
the game i am refering to had 4 number 1 picks of the last 4 years in it trust me cotchin looked better than all of them in the first half.
when he has 2 preseasons under his belt & is 20 yo watch out

See Barnzy, what happens is, some people actually watch the game, and as such form an opinion based on what a player showed. Rhys Palmer and Cyril Rioli were fantastic this year, but their potential isn't anywhere near as high as Trent Cotchin's. It's hard to explain exactly how people know this, but let's just say it comes with having a knowledge of football and watching the game.

Yes people hype him up a huge amount based on his potential (which is unbelievable), but that's always going to happen with an exciting young player. In footy, you don't assume a player is a hack until he proves you otherwise.

I never said he was a hack, I think he will probably turn out to be a great player but theres always a possibility that these types of players won't live up to their expectations.

If your 18 and everyone thinks your gonna be the next Judd, Ablett or whoevever, thats alot of pressure.

Of course there's always the possiblity he won't live up to expectations. That doesn't mean you can't hold these same expectations.

I'm sure he's more than capable of living with the pressure, especially considering the way he's conducted himself in front of the press in his first year.

im older than most people on bf & seen a lot of players in my time
i remember kb,roach,hart,cloke snr,skilton,williams,rioli,
this kid will be up there with them anybody doubting his potentiall neednt worry.

at the bare minimum he will be like harvey, roo, bucks

me too, im an older bastard and have seen a lot of young tigers hit the big stage I am as excited about the cotch as I was when richo first started.

At the moment Delidio's a fair way ahead but in saying that you have to remember Cotchin has only had half a season (without a preseason as well). The best time to compare them will be at the end of this season. It doesn't fuss me which one turns out better im just rapt that we have two absolute superstars on our list. Sorry make that three (nearly forgot the cho!)

This thread has given me a hard on.

I wont vote on this as it is too close to call.

We are very fortunate to have these two gems at our club.

Deledio is now ELITE, don't give a crap what the uneducated think, he is brilliant and his year this year was pure class. Should have made the bench for the All Australian side.

Cotchin is something extremely special. Has a long way to go, needs to consolidate but from teh glimpses we have seen, I have seen nothing like it.

This is a thing of beauty.

Deledio's already proven to be a gun, but I think Cotchin will turn out even better, hardly had a pre-season last year because of injury IIRC and still performed in the games he played, so once he has one or two full pre-seasons under him he'll be a star.

I too didn't vote, because Lids has the runs on the board and Cotch is a fair bit behind atm.
The exciting thing for me is that Cotchin will raise the bar and deledio will bust his guts to match it. At the moment Deledio looks like he is on the verge of becoming and elite player. Top ten sought of stuff. Remembering that they will be 21 and 18 at the start of the season is scary and exciting, we may well have two of the best midfielders in the comp in the near future.

How is it scary?
I'm not scared of that possibility :thumbsu:

if you compared both of their first seasons id be much more excited about cotchin than lids.

i see their overall football contribution as even stevens but cotchin just has that superstar personality. the guy everyone luvs cause he's the chirpy, happy go lucky type that always has a smile from ear to ear.

Cotchin will end up the bigger star.

I will very interesting to watch the bi-play unfold between them for example lets say "hypothetically" that over the next two years Cotchin comes out and blitzes the AFL like no other player, even Judd and in 2011 he's given the reigns off Newman ahead of Lids. how would that sit with Lids???

Conversely if Lids is given the reigns off Newmo then how does that sit with Cotch knowing that he might never get to captain a club because Lids has it covered???

oh and i did say HYPOTHETICALLY.

I think Lids is the type who would take it in his stride and say, "Yep, Cotch is a gun and a great leader. I'm happy just to play my role in the side." He doesn't appear to be the type that covets titles, and he's not a natural leader like Cotch and Jack.
