I will very interesting to watch the bi-play unfold between them for example lets say "hypothetically" that over the next two years Cotchin comes out and blitzes the AFL like no other player, even Judd and in 2011 he's given the reigns off Newman ahead of Lids. how would that sit with Lids???

Conversely if Lids is given the reigns off Newmo then how does that sit with Cotch knowing that he might never get to captain a club because Lids has it covered???

oh and i did say HYPOTHETICALLY.

Lids has had to deal with it with Newman anyway, and Lids was our equally best player. If Lids had the personality and desire, he would have got it this time. I don't think 2 or 3 years will make a difference for him.

Does anyone know what the youngest captain has been in the last, say, 5 years?

Cogga seems to like his hindsight further down the track...

here is one for ya dude....they both might play in a premiership side...but one of them will not be in yellow and black when he does if he does...see if you can work out who might not be at the tigers when it happens. ;)

so hard to split them, both will be amazing but id say deledio because he can play in the midfield and out run any player in the league or play up forward and kick a bag. That versatility in the crunch games or even when deledio is having an off game is what makes him a future brownlow medialist.

ideally though we have cotchin breaking packs to feed deledio, 09 should be a big one with these two.

Deledio won't win a flag when he finally goes to his beloved Carlton. Carlton will be demoted to the VFL for cheating by then. They'll lose 3 Grand Finals in a row to the JON captained - Bowden coached Coburg.:thumbsu:

Deledio won't leave Richmond. There's no way he can get to Carlton. They won't finish last any time soon, we won't bend over for any Warnock trade and I don't know how Carlton would get their hands on picks 1, 2, and 3 in the draft, which is what I'd demand for him. If he does say he wants to leave (which he won't) it'll be "play for Richmond or play for Melbourne, kid".

Deledio has an opportunity to become the face of our club next year onwards.

This means big bonus dollars and the kind of fan adoration you can't get elsewhere, so he's in the best position of these two brilliant players.

I think Deledio has the advantage of having played through the hard times as well... being a #1 draft pick and leading the youth resurgance, I feel that Deledio represents a lot of hope for Richmond, there is a greater sense of wanting him to succeed - maybe it's just cos I've seen him hurt for our club a lot more than Cotchin (so far), but despite Trent's slightly greater brilliance at this point in time I think Deledio might be my favourite.

Cotchin hasn't played in many losses, so I need to see him hurt for our club like Deledio has before I would label him my favourite of the two.

I don't think either of them will surpass Richo, I don't think anyone will ever be as loved as Richo.

.

Well, I much prefer us to have players who inspire victories then a a bunch of "gallant losers". I sure as hell don't need to see him go through the kind of pain that Deledio has thus far and another 4 years of defeats.

It is impossible to call now but if I had to I'd go with lids... Just does everything, wins his own ball, runs lines, kicks long and accurate, has 'monster quarters', takes marks, kicks goals... Cotch has the potential to do all that, but i've seen Lids do it.. The cousins influence will also be massive on this pair...

They both have a lot of improvement left in them which is the real bonus. Lids could have another 10 years like '08 and you would be happy with the contribution for a #1 pick. Cotch will be better for a pre-season, but his year was fantastic given the circumstances.

Lets also not forget N. Foley...

I was more referring to the fact it's harder to get attached to a player who hasn't played many games, and sometimes it's the losses that do it the most.

I admire Cotchin as much as anyone, but Brett might be my favourite right now and it's probably because I've seen him do more for our club so far.

If Cotchin becomes as good as Judd like I expect, then it will be a good battle ;)

Why would you want him to suffer what we've been through?

Are you saying you want us to be perrenial losers so any new players can feel what its like to "hurt"?

KB played his whole career for a powerhouse club, this is how i'd like to think Cotchin's career will go.

Bugger this "losing is good for you" rubbish!!!

That wasn't what I was saying.

When you see a player hurt for your club, you appreciate their efforts more. I've seen Deledio hurt for our club in about 90 games of football.

I'm talking about seeing someone bust a gut out there. I have seen Deledio back into packs, put his body on the line, run players down and by the final siren he's on the grass.

Cotchin has been playing 50% game time (due to no pre-season) and has only played 15 games... he'll be an absolute superstar but I need to see him running his guts out in close games before I can put him on Deledio's level.

I have absolutely no doubt he'll do this too.

Just a matter of time my friend ;)
