...this year goddard has been sensational...
...mark of the year..
...another grreat grab in the granny...
...and absolute standout out player in toddays granny after lenny hayes...
...may just do the same next week...
...may just be a brownlow favourite next year...

Can't fault you on that. Goddard has a better body shape than Lids and plays in a better team. Lids hast the tools though.

Had money on Goddard for the Norm today. Pulled the Saints back into the game.

I think Goddard's extra couple of cm and kgs allows him to be more of a physical force. Especially around the ground when he basically plays as a KPP and midfielder in 1. Still, a few years ago Goddard was pretty ordinary if you can remember. Was being called an ordinary pick. His last 2 years has been an amazing improvement on previous years. Hopefully Lids steps up over the next couple of years.

He needs to learn how to take games by the scruff of the neck more often like Goddard does most weeks instead of just playing well and being accepted as a very good player. He does have most of the tools and he can do it. It's hard but If he goes up that extra notch or 2 and 5-10% in performance he will be a great player. Will probably get naturally better in a better team too, more opportunity, etc.

Goddard and Lids are pretty much the same height (Listed Goddard 189cm - Lids 188cm), Goddard has an extra listed 6kg although his aggression contributes to a much larger presence around contests. Lids hasnt even played in a final although many would say his ability to go missing would go hand in hand with an inability to step up in the big ones. Similarly, plenty would say since his kick in the bum mid last season Lids has shown us an endeavour he didnt have before (adelaide game this year is the one that stand out for me).

Goddard is a great player in a great team. I think Lids has all the talent in the world but hasnt made that next step up yet.

wouyld have thought this year he went a long way to shaking that "missing" tag...easily his best year...naturally he won't get the plaudits until the side is any good...I accept goddard does play with a tad more aggression but i repeat dont underestimate Lids, he's capable of ANYTHING on the footy field

Don't forget Goddard took quite a while to break free from the shadow of Judd and Hodge. Was roundly bagged for quite a few years for being taken at No 1.
Now look at him.
Drafted in 2003, didn't really even look like an AFL player until 2006.

I agree, i dont think he deserves the missing or lazy tag but he still manages to get it from some at times. Obviously his talent comes with expectation that realistically he cant break until, as you say, he plays in a good side. Lids is my favourite player by a decent margin and I cant wait until the day we get to see him on the footy shows as a guest like we see Hodge, Bartel, Goddard and Hayes currently receiving the optimism they deserve. Im scared at the thought of Lids not playing in our next premiership side or even consecutive dominant finals appearance because what we have seen of him; his ability to break lines with speed, weaving through pressure and the quality kicking are all the skills required to meet and raise players like Goddard in their ability to take the game on and succeed.

Also, don't forget it took St Kilda a while to find out where Goddard was best suited, just like it's taken Richmond a while to find out where Deledio is best suited.

Don't forget the Ross Lyon v Grant Thomas factor in relation to Goddards development. He is elite with a capital E.

Should Lids be trade bait ?

wash your mouth out, who the **** for:eek:...dual B&F 22yo come at fairly hefty price...his currency would not be any less than 3 of top 5 selections...in any case it's sacriledge to make such a comment, clealry you have mod clearance or you'd ordianrliy be staring at a 3 month ban

Deledio is every bit as talented as hodge or Goddard, 2 years younger

Both saints and hawthorn have been strong teams where as deledio has been in average side each week.

St kilda average age yesterday was 27. Deledio has been playing along side players farnyounger than himself this season (grimes, hicks, dea, oreilly, astbury etc

Goddard is a gun but early on did not do much and was seen as behind wells for some time.

very similar, id say lids is the better athlete but goddard is the better footballer, and he certainly performs week in week out.

heppell is a simlar type to goddard aswell, hence why i want him in the draft.

Agree he took a while to find his feet, but was drafted in 2002. Not in the same year as Hodge and Judd. He debuted in 2003.

Same old story I reckon - put Deledio in a top team and he'd be rated so much higher. He can't have done much more for a player his age. Rising Star winner, twice B & F without the luxury of class and strength around him. As some have pointed out, Goddard was no world beater early in his career. Whilst he did help drag the Saints back into the game yesterday (thank God) his kicking was deplorable in the first half from someone who is just about the best kick in the comp. Better to compare Deledio to blokes from the same draft - and only ONE (Franklin) MIGHT be ahead of him. OK, TWO - Dean Limbach, but that's it.
