Four-time Jack Dyer Medal winner and former Richmond captain, Wayne Campbell, was elected as an AFL Life Member at last night’s AFL Annual General Meeting.
Campbell qualified for AFL Life Membership as a 300-game player (275 premiership season matches, 24 pre-season games and three State-of-Origin appearances).
The 32-year-old, who relinquished the Tiger captaincy at the end of last season, is also on the verge of another league football milestone.
He needs just eight games in the 2005 season to break the AFL record for the most number of games played in the No. 9 guernsey. That record is held by five-time Melbourne premiership player Brian Dixon, who played 251 games wearing the No. 9 jumper.
Campbell played 12 games in the No. 46 guernsey in his debut league season back in 1991 and 19 games last year in the Tiger Captain’s No. 17
