I think lots of people are being overly dramatic. The club will let Jong go as soon as it's not in our interests to keep him. Jong needs to secure his future too and it's no secret he's fringe 22. Everyone's saying the chats with other clubs are fine as long as it's kept secret , not like that changes the fact (or is in Jongs control - bit naive to go onsite but meh).

Perfect chance for Jong to kick ass for the rest of the season and get that contract with us. If not we'll possibly/probably be shopping him around and it's reasonable Jong is prepared.

PS - personally hope he stays

You're being far too lenient on his behaviour. In any industry if you went and met with direct opposition, then everyone at your office found out about it how tenable would your role be? The fact that he put himself in the position to get caught (visiting the site) shows either a lack of intelligence or simply a lack of respect for our jumper.

You think Bevo wants to share strategies, do the pow wow, honesty sessions, etc with a bloke who's clearly not invested?

He has absolutely embarrassed us and caused us undue harm from his own selfishness.

I will support him when he plays, but I am extremely disappointed with how he and his management has gone about this.

It's only that he got caught then.

Seriously, who doesn't look at other options while employed with their current organisation. No different for AFL players.

OK, maybe he should have waited to post-season to look at their facilities but it's not a hangable offence.

I would say people who are happy with their situation wouldn't be seriously looking at other options. For those who are saying this is ok, would you say the same for every player on our list? No worries about it disrupting the focus of the player and team?
The aspect of 'looking at the facilities' is BS. As if that's a big factor. I would think in whatever order it would be $$$ / opportunities / getting a regular game / premiership prospects.
IF they feel the need to shop around, do it discreetly FFS and not cause a disruption or make a big deal of it.

Jong is asking 1 million over 3 years

Hope he enjoys Holden centre coz if we pay him that much I will dead set lose it.

5 years in averaging 6 games a year and 3 goals a year and he wants 1 million???

The dogs have offered 1 year rolling contrasts 200k plus match payments and I even think that's more than he deserves.

But on Jongs side if he has a suitor that wants to give him 3 years he should grab it with both hands.
LOL dude, someone at he club is going to give you information about Jong because your opinion would be highly respected on the inside because it is so well considered. If someone ever gave you information it would be for a joke.

Thing is Fossie I would expect that the players put almost all their faith in their managers to conduct or know how to conduct these meetings, enquiries or discussions, what's appropriate and when and where they should be conducted. Apparently these meetings and discussions happen all the time but what seems to be a little unusual is that a club tour was involved during the season. Unless Jongy suggested it, it would seem his advice was a little off and perhaps he might reconsider his management. Then again, such things might be commonplace in 5 years as contract negotiation norms evolve.

I will never look at Jong the same way again. Regardless if he stays on for 10 years, a little bit of him has died for me this week.

Dude...seriously???

He's a battler footy player...how did you cope when our captain and our only Brownlow medalist left????

If he plays dead like Cal Ward did once his mind was made up, then we can hang him. Otherwise, leave him be, he has worked very hard for us and is playing his role as a depth player well.

Jong's an imbecile and worse still, he's being advised by a manager who is also an imbecile.

This Nick Gieschen led balls up effectively ensures that Jong will never end up with anything deal that was previously on the table for him regardless of which club he plays for in 2017.

I could be naive here , but say it happens like this.
List management team put a value on him , they tell him he is currently just outside our best 22 , but think there could be plenty of up side.
They also tell him they realise other clubs value him more right now , so it is ok to explore options that will guarantee more money with possibly a longer contract.
Both parties happy with the honest discussion ?
It seems our club is comfortable with what's going on , picked again this week.

Don't think he's even a good match for the Pies. Probably just to up his bargaining position.

Of course he's not happy with only a 1 year offer. Fair enough too.

Obviously he wouldn't have wanted it to come out and be a disruption but from what people are saying, this thing happens all the time (touring of facilities) just that this is the first time it's actually been known about. To Jong's knowledge he probably was doing it discreetly. If you're looking for someone to blame for causing disruption, have a think about who actually leaked it to the media.

My info is pretty good and has proven to be so

But keep worrying about little old me :)

I actually dont think what Jong has done is bad at all IF he has decided to move on and how do we he hasn't been told his opportunities going forward may be limited

Every AFL player that isn't guaranteed a contract should look after themselves if they can coz they are generally the players clubs cast off for trade when/if they want to

Yeah cross everyone involved off the Christmas card list.

"The club is expected to seek an explanation from his manager, Nick Gieschen." - Hun

Man im all for players looking out for there future and looking at other options if they ain't getting a game every week like Jong but do it behind close doors. Don't go visiting other clubs during the season. Stick to the task you have at hand. It's a bad look and Buckley himself said he would be furious if he was Bevo.

Man. This is such an illogical and unfair viewpoint to take IMO.

How is it illogical? The guy went behind enemy lines mid-season. I don't care if wants to f*ck off come year end, there is a time and a place for courting other clubs and assessing your options.

Lin has created a massive disruption and embarassment to the team to look after his own agenda.

And you say it's illogical and unfair for me to not have the same opinion of him as I did a week ago?

It will be ok guys. Jong only went to check Collingwood out due to the amount of negative comments that are put on Bigfooty about him.

He sits down every night and reads this utter twattle and takes it to heart and that's why he has decided to move on.
