Knocked up a tad over 2200 and had to cop a zero after not being able to swap Anthony out and having set Beams as my emergency. Seemed to be quite a high scoring round.

I am rubbish at these things, but I reckon I can only improve:thumbsu:

Playing from beyond our borders may not work in my favour this year....scoring just under 2000 points from Round 1 and I think I have selected poorly. Got my cashcows but I think I spent too much on the middle tier players - I'll keep my trades in hand and go nuts for the last 10 rounds or so I think!

All I've got to say is 2nd year >>> 1st year. The knowledge that Merrett, Scarlet and Glass aren't good defenders to pick and that you should stay away from injured players at the beginning of the season makes a hell of a difference.

Haven't seen my score yet Freddie but am scratching my head to think of a selection punt that was a certifiable bomb - don't think I had one. Defence is weak, Goddard aside, but I knew that already. Browny and Deledio weren't outstanding either. Otherwise, there were plenty of tons knocked up. Good signs. But they don't give out premierships in March!
Turns out I had something like the 170th best score of the week.

It probably does indicate that I'm in a league that is beneath me.

I’ll take the bait…

Talk about a flip-flop… Humble one moment, a nanodegree of separation from Warwick Caper the next…

Any team that fails to beat Redlands should not be getting too far ahead of themselves!

In supercoach, do the reserves score points to the total? Does an emergency, or are they only for swapping in and out if you get an injury?

My first ever round of supercoach yielded 1598 points, plenty of dead wood to clear. I knew i should have checked the injury lists!

Helix,

Reserves do not score points on your total unless they are named as an emergency. An emergency's points will count if you have a zero in that area of the field eg with me last week I had Liam Anthony named to play in the middle with Rich as an emergency. When Anthony withdrew Rich's score counted.

You only have twenty trades so be careful not to burn too many early. There will be plenty of bargains later in the year and it is often not a good idea to write guys off after a poor start. I did that with NG Brown last year and that came back to bite me in the butt.

If you PM your team I could probably give you a few suggestions which might help.

Cheers

I think I am winning so far.

Admittedly I havent got the biggest score, but I snuck a peak at everyone elses team and I am fairly confident of victory by seasons end.

However Fevolas foot has me concerned. He should have told me his foot was sore last week.

And re trades, if you want to win the league, NEVER trade before week three, and NEVER trade a rookie until they have played at least 6 games.

Cause the price changes come into effect at the end of week three. Fantasy league is basically like a share trading game, so at the finish of round two you know which players are significantly going to go up in value, so you make your first trades if you need to in week 3.

Keep in mind though there are two strategies for fabtasy footy, one to win the competition in total, one to win your league. Believe it or not you can win the entire competition and not win your league.

Winning the entire comp, you have to be a bit more ruthless with your trades (and lucky). For example my league team is 16,000th placed from memory. My competition team is 3000th. Two totally different stategies.

But To win your league you look at it like real footy, it's finals footy that matters, your focus should be getting into the eight with a bag of trades up your sleeve. If you change too early, you'll be at a disadvantage come finals time.

Sit on your injuries as long as it doesnt leave a significant hole in your squad, and then trade rookie players at their peak price to upgrade a second string player to a premium player.

Good tips, thanks Rawhead.

To add a little bit of spice, we will run a competition between the two leagues over the course of the year. Each week, 1 member from each league will go head to head. Whichever member scores the highest for that week will score a point for his league. At the end of the season, the league with the most points will take ultimate bragging rights on the board. There will be more details on that comp closer to the season.

Cancelled? :(

Didn't seem to be a lot of interest and I couldn't work out how many leagues we had. Can still do it...was planning on doing it in Alphabetical order (ie first in alpha order play each other in round 1, and so on) so rounds 4 and 5 can just be done post fact.
