Hi guys, I thought it "high time" (and no Freddie that doesn't mean break out the Colombian Sugar) we had a Lions Brownlow thread.

Let's make this dual functioned: it can be both for the Lions count, and the overall.

I'll start - I've backed Thompson and Dangerfield for the overall, at ave odds about 10 and 13 each.

Yeah I don't think Ablett can win it because historically when a team loses by 15 goals, they don't get any votes. I don't think Ablett deserves votes for getting cheap handballs, etc, to rack up his stats, as he has in quite a few games. It's not an indictment on him, but clearly his teammates look for him, and his stats are increased by that.

He's a champion, but he does not deserve to win the Brownlow this year.

Cotchin anyone?

I can see the winner this year being one we look back on in history as being a bit random, a la Cooney or Woewodin. One from left field.

I'll be interested in the Redden v Rockliff dual from a Lions perspective.

Yeah agree with that.. Swans Josh Kennedy must be a smokey..

The Lions.. Huddo may poll well

Kennedy will, esp first half of the year. Was BOG for mine on the weekend, too.

Huddo...?? He's had a VG year but hardly the type umpies give votes to. According to www.footywire.com he's never received a Brownlow vote in his career.

Huddos' retirement last year may have caught the umpires off guard.. Midfielders award..In games won, He may pick up a few single votes...as a thanks for coming award..:p

I backed Watson @ $23 early in the season (suggested the punter's club do the same but was ignored ;) ). Really hoping for a pay check on that one.

Dean Cox is one that I've had a look at. I reckon I've seen him be just about best on ground on 5 occasions, and I don't see every WC game. He's paying $67 at the moment - going purely on SC scores, he's had 7 games where he scored over 130 and another 5 games where he scored over 100. I don't think he's the roughest chance going around, even for a ruckman.

Nah, Huddo seems to like a yak at not with the umps - seems the history to 2011 where he had never received a vote from the umps might back me up. But Kennedy although only 3 career votes better to 2011, could get low-mid teens?

Cotchin - 15 votes last year, 20+ would not suprise if the umps gave votes to the tiggers in the close defeats.
Watson - is another vote getter, In the last three years getting 10, 16 & 15 last year

Would be two of my highly fancied.

PS - 'ritzy - close but no reefer, although my first thought was a French Connection - High Times, a song by "Little Bob Story"

Ablett, Watson and Cotchin have been their teams' best players and absolutely carried their teams this year, even when the rest have crumbled. Whoever said Cotchin and Ablett shouldn't win it is kidding themselves. These guys are genuine superstars and have contributed the most to their clubs out of any players this year. Cotchin, Swan (check his stats, they're better than last year), Ablett, Watson or Kennedy (if he polls great in the first eight rounds) should win it. I'll go with Watson

None of the first part about contributing most, etc, is of any relevance. There's 3-2-1 each game. That's what's relevant. I don't think Cotchin or Ablett can win.

Lads and lasses, for those that are interested, I've started up a more detailed Brownlow discussion private forum. If you wish to be involved, PM me. The reasons for having a private forum are for discussing tallies, betting strategies, etc, outside of lurking bookmaker's eyes.

10 grand buy in?

I backed Watson three times @ $13,$21 and $7.

I reckon he'll be leading with 4 or 5 rounds to go but the freakin 1 in 40 year event of Essendon's second half of the year compared to it's first looks destined to cruel me.

A few weeks ago I reduced speculation on a Cotchin Brownlow/Pavlich Coleman quinella and then Pav promptly got injured.

It's very difficult to know how the umpires will view Ablett's monster possession games in losses.Same thing happened last year and he polled great but there has been a lot of talk in media about wether big votes are deserving with these efforts which might influence them.Who knows ??

Also have a feeling there might be more than one winner.
