Whats the club going to do with delisting, promotions and draft picks. The clubs said they want more top picks and will trade for them. Already with picks 1,2,11 and 18 that accounts for Robbo, wheels, wheats and mclean. With picks 34 and 50 to come,PSD pick and promotion of valenti and spencer how many will melbourne have to ger rid of ?? another 4 or 5

Bell is surely gone
Newton probably has to go even tho contracted for 1 more year
Bartram showed a bit towards the end of last year should keep
Millers been said as a required player
Jamar talk of him been traded, wont happen he has to stay
Buckley probably traded or delisted
Spencer one of him or PJ has to go in my own opnion
PJ see above
Valenti should be promoted showed a fair bit should keep
Zomer gone

Ideally id like...

Bell, Newton, Bartram delisted

that will surely free up around 7 spots with our retirements.

Gone
Russell Robertson
Matthew Whelan
Paul Wheatley
Brock McLean

Picks
Pick #1
Pick #2
Pick #11
Pick #18

Trade Interest
Mark Jamar - (Use the pick that we would get for him should a trade occur)
Daniel Bell - (If trade happens PSD #1 to be used)
Simon Buckley - (If trade happens pick #34 to be used)
Clint Bartram - (If trade happens upgrade Shane Valenti)

- Don't upgrade Spencer, not worth it.
- Because of our extra picks (PP and #11) I don't feel the need to use #50 at this stage.

I think we will try and do trades with players to upgrade picks i.e. Player + Nth Round Pick , for a N-1th round pick.

Bell and McNamara which frees up up to use pick 34 and PSD 1.

I really feel that we dont need to use any other picks

Why the bloody hell would we delist McNamara? had a good year in the VFL and wasnt overly bad in his couple of senior games (playing massively undersized)... only 19 and has very big upside... probably about 15 others in front of him 2 be delisted...

Example:

Bell+pick 34 (third round) ...for say pick 26(second round)
Player+ pick(nth round).....pick(n-1 th round)....

I think this is exactly wat will happen, except with buckley instead of bell... only because buckley has some promise, bell is shot...

Dilemma - No H

Agree with everything Dez! wrote.

Look to trade/delist Bell, Bartram and Buckley and Newton if we can get a suitor.

Tell me which 15 would be in front of him???

And dont say Bell or Newon or anyone else who is contracted for next year.

15 is over the top but there is no way McNamara should be delisted, he's got a heap of talent. Very good skills, nice run from defence but can play half forward, a nice versatile medium size.

We've already got room for pick 1,2,11,18. If the AFL change the rule to allow for a 3rd year rookie I'd say we'd keep Valenti rookied, and try to let Spencer go through the rookie draft to keep him that way - either way I can only see us promoting 1 rookie. Pick 34 we would be looking to use, and PSD 1 for an uncontracted player but not pick 50 that isn't worth it.

So if we can't get rid of Bell and Newton in free up trades (ie for pick 90, or for 4 round swaps) we need 3 ahead of McNamara to get the cut. It's tough but I'd say PJ, Bartram and Cheney. Besides Miller (rumour was he'd get a new contract - who knows why), Bell and Newton they are the 3 on our list with the least upside.

we should delist Danny Hughes. now 23 y/o and yet to break into the team.

that frees up pick #34

I also think Bruce and Green may qualify for Vetrans next season. Correct me if i'm wrong but won't that free up 2 more places on the roster?

Picks #50 and #66

Hughes is on the rookie.... so that only frees up a rookie spot.

Fair call. My bad. What about bruce n green becoming vetrans. am i right in relation to them freeing up spots? Are they becoming vetrans?

Club said more list announcements to be made post trade week, regards changes to the list including;delisting, upgrading & veterans. Though i suspect we will add to the vets list.

Agreed that McNamara has done enough being a bottom aged draftee (youngest player drafted in '07), he needs more time.

Someone with some sense. I'm far from convinced that Valenti would make any side other than one languishing down the bottom of the ladder. I've not totally written him off, but given we'll likely draft 2 ready made mids in Scully & Trengove, plus Blease & Strauss who've not got on the park this year, Valenti is a fair way back even with 1 or 2 injuries.

I wouldn't hate to upgrade him, but if its upgrade or delist i'd bite the bullet & delist, some times you have to make tough decisions. But ideally, the AFL change the rules & allow 3rd year rookies, he's done enough to deserve that.

Junior has one veteran spot, I believe Bruce is being elevated into the other spot, but that doesn't free up an additional spot because Robbo was on the list prior to him.

Yeah but Bruce going from the senior list to the vets list would make a list spot available.

Yes, correct. But everyone is already saying that Robbo's retirement will free up a spot, which is incorrect because he was on the vets list. Robbo's retirement only free's up a spot if we elevate someone else to the vets list in his place, ie Bruce.

So Robbo's retirement & Bruce's vet list elevation only equals one spot on out list.

Oh yes, I get what you mean.

Wonder if Brucey is on more coin than Robertson? He'd have to be wouldn't he? So only half of Bruce's salary counts towards the salary which would give us more cap space.
