Pies at end of 2009 have gained:
Jolly, Ball, Sinclair, JThomas, SBuckley, Hunter*, Carter*, McNamara*

In doing so, we also have gained:
- a greater centre square presence
- Pendlebury away from extraction duties back to offensive ruckrover
- three extra cameo tall forward threats - Rusling, Fraser & Jolly
- some KPD and KPF stocks in Carter and McNamara
- Hunter may in time release Thomas from defensive HF duties and give us a more offensive Thomas again - he does afterall win games off his own boot - I recall two but others may recall more?
- our youngster mids (eg Beams, Sidey, Wellers) are a year stronger again
- our remaining list gaps have been BP and tagger. Hunter's speed and aggro may fill any of them, and we still have Rounds, Francis, Barham to grow into them as well. Sewell must have been a big temptation to take as an older run-with, so our existing youngsters will need to step up to the plate.

List looking very good thankfully, as only cherry-picking will help in the next few years. Or do you still see major 'gaps' rather than 'rooms for improvement'?

If I look at our team the only concern is Presty coming up again at 32 years of age, it all goes a little pear shaped without him

O'Brien Presty Maxwell
Shaw N Brown Buckley
Didak Swan Sidebottom
D Thomas Cloke Lockyer
Medhurst Anthony Davis

Jolly Pendlebury Ball

Dick Beams McCarthy Fraser

I think that we have now completed our list for 2010. However in 2011 we may have a defensive issue with the likely retirement of presti, however if Reid kicks on then we may not have that issue at all. But that remains to be seen.

I see that our Biggest Need was Inside Mids with Speed. Got that with Sinclair,Thomas and Hunter.

Hunter can also could become a Tagger.

Also got some players who can make a Impact Straight away in Jolly,Ball and Buckley.

Got Carter and McNamara are the Project Talls

If Reid and Dawes are able to produce as anticipated in key forward and pack positions, we are going to have a very strong team. These two players are the keys to success, because we have every other position covered. I back both of them to take the next step in 2010. The club has shown its abiltiy to develop young players, and I expect the flaws in their games to be rectified by our coaching staff.

Only Cook and Corrie can consider themselves lucky to be on our list. The players recruited are all hard players, and even the most lightly built of the recruits come with a proven track record of hard, aggressive play.

Collingwood is going to be an ultra competitive team with youth on its side.

Yes you would think that Corrie & Cook need to find alot and in reality so does Leroy Brown now that Jolly has arrived.

Funny game football

Actually Reid, Rusling, Dawes, Rounds, Blight are also needing to prove plenty this year and I am a big Dawes fan

The only real retirement chances are Lockyear, Big Presti and maybe Cheesy (but I have beenn trying to move cheesy on for about 5 years but he has become a lot better)

This draft didn't at all help bolster out key position stocks at either end really.

It was more so a significant upgrade in the ruck with Jolly.

And an equally significant midfield upgrade with Ball and the added leadership and experience he adds to our young midfield.

Then some more young developing mids in Thomas and Sinclair who both look promising.

Then an additional back flanker in Buckley.

McNamara will most likely be a ruckman at this stage, though potentially could be a key position player, just not right away.

As for our other rookie prospects you can't expect them to contribute this season.

Round 1:
F: Paul Medhurst Jack Anthony Leon Davis
HF: Josh Fraser Travis Cloke Alan Didak
CEN: Dale Thomas Dane Swan Scott Pendlebury
HB: Nick Maxwell Nathan Brown Ben Reid
B: Heath Shaw Simon Prestigiacomo Harry O'Brien
FOLL: Darren Jolly Shane O'Bree Luke Ball
BENCH: Dayne Beams Steele Sidebottom Tarkyn Lockyer Ben Johnson
EMG: Sean Rusling Brad Dick Cameron Wood
Also in the mix: Tyson Goldsack Leigh Brown Alan Toovey Sharrow Wellingham Brent Macaffer John McCarthy Jaxson Barham Chris Dawes Simon Buckley

Personally I see there being a gap down back for a small defender. Personally would really like to see Ben Johnson playing as a small defender as opposed to in the midfield. I really value his run and carry from defence and he would be about the only player I see as being the fit to release Harry O'Brien to a more medium sized forward as opposed to a small every week.

Otherwise would like to have more key position depth down back. Prestigiacomo is nearing the end and L.Brown is not young, so I would think that we will need to add some more depth down back very soon to aid N.Brown and B.Reid who will most likely at this point in time be our key position defenders in 2011, which I am not opposed to in the slightest, but would like in the situation that injury does strike to have someone that could possibly step in and fill the gap.

Also up forward would like to see another medium sized forward/ 3rd tall added at some point. My idea was a Troy Taylor type who might be able to add some flexibility to the forwardline. Why I would do this is because Leon Davis and Paul Medhurst are both nearing 30, and Didak is not far behind, and we don't really have any true medium sized forwards who can add a Steve Johnson type dimension up forward, I think that would be a really nice element to have in our team structure.

As for everything else, key forwards we have enough depth, if we decide we want an upgrade at the end of the season that can be done but for now we have more than enough players looking to break into the side and nothing more is needed. Our midfield looks set for a long time and really looks very deep now, and so too our once weak ruck stocks are looking as strong as any now.

I think we are closing the gap to the cats and the saints because you judge a list by looking at your worst 5 players and recently we have improven alot in that area.

The hole left by Rocca is yet to be filled. It will be interesting to see whether any of our young side can fill this void in time.
