Vic journo's have gone quiet on him re-signing, and there's lots of rumours on the crows podcasts that he's coming here.

Riley Beveridge and Cal Twomey reported yesterday on AFL.com that Draper is close to signing a four year extension with Essendon.

My preference would be Max Ramsden, more athleticism and more versatile IMO. Reeves is 27 in October., Ramsden turned 22 in April just gone.

Looking to the future the age would swing it for me.

The other issue with Draper is that his only real trait was athleticism. He's now done an Achilles. He doesn't have much to fall back on when his athleticism weakens. Poor ruck skills and fairly average around the ground

We know those injuries can take a full season off then another full season until you get back to your best and even that is difficult

Edit - it’s a bummer he was right under our nose and somehow we didn’t value him correctly before the draft

There’s a misconception (from footy fans) that players are driven by on field success above all else. The vast majority of players don’t care as much as we’d like to think. The world has changed. This is a job for them. And, sometimes, working with your best mates, whilst earning lots of money is more appealing than anything. Hence why NWM will either stay at St Kilda or join up with his great mates Jace Burgoyne and Jason Horne-Francis.

Love the trade for Sharp idea btw.

Doesn’t seem like Sharp is exactly THAT guy so far

How do we do that if he is a possible pick1?

Has fallen down the pecking order of rankings, siting at 6 presently

Swans and Suns (port pick) around that zone as we speak, if stays that way there'll be academy kids they wont want to burn those picks on so will look to trade down

Let's wait and see how Dyson Sharp shapes up against the best midfielders in this draft at the fast approaching Nationals before we go getting too excited. Apart from obviously the big mature body and ball winning capabilities what elite traits does he have that stands out? Already draft watchers are questiioning his kicking?

The Nationals will untimately define where he sits in the pecking order.

He has played a lot of junior footy when he was younger. My son played against him a lot in Div 1 Club footy. He was a gun back then but also a gun basketballer. Not sure when he moved interstate but played lots of junior footy in Adelaide.

I am happy for him to stay but this squad won't be good enough to win a flag so we have to keep improving the list.

That means pushing a few players out along the way over and above the depth type players. I.would of had Milera in that conversation.

Probably the right move at the time. Pick Rachele, lock him up long term, then in a few years try to get NWM to come home.

It’s a fair argument, but it sounds like we just rated Rash ahead of NWM anyway (though I wouldn’t be surprised if they were both in our top 5 in the open pool)
