Two separate discussions going on with Keays. Clearly he won't be delisted or pushed out at the end of 2026.

However given his age his Manager will want an extension at years end so that he doesn't go into 2027 without a few more years locked away

We won't low ball him but it won't be a keep at all costs scenario where he gets another few years on top of 27.

Roughead has come in at a difficult time as the keep the group together mantra is over and the days of being able to offer our guys more than other clubs is coming to end. Butts and Berry will be a similar discussion.

You dont rule a line through players because they dont cut it in a side where they were surrounded by rubbish
Peter Bell couldn't get games in an awful Freo side

Forgot Walker, but honestly, if he keeps going the way he's going, there's every chance he asks for another year.

But when he does retire, he should just slot straight into our Coaching Panel as our Forward Line coach and then we can finally get rid of Burns. Fog moves into the Walker role and Ludo comes in as the third key forward, he's the same height as Maley - so with some size could be the chop in ruck with time.

I reckon there’s a question mark over his coaching credentials. He’s been mentoring Fog and TT for years and nearly everyone to a man here would say that he’s still needed because we struggle with structure and leadership when he’s out. Whatever it is he does in that space, it’s not being passed to his replacements. Nicks said the exact same thing during the preseason.

Tex being a strong personality he is, it doesn't surprise me that we struggle without him.

That said, our forwardline did function pretty well against Geelong earlier in the year, we just couldnt get it there often enough. Having ANB there would help in that regard I think.

Ben Keays would be 31 for any contract starting in 2028

I reckon he'd be a great target for Tasmania. Otherwise, one year contracts from us contingent on form

Talk of Mitch McGovern keen for another contract which hasn't yet arrived. 31yo atm.

We are in the premiership window. Tex will need even more rests even if he plays on next year. Fog will almost certainly never reach the heights of Tex and is too unfit to change role. Marsh, Ludowyke, Welsh unlikely to meaningfully contribute for another couple years. Maley and T Murray extremely raw and only good for cameos.

McGovern offers a different type of forward and has the added bonus of being a legitimate swingman which none of our other options are. Only needs to cover 2 years. Shouldn't cost much.
**** no

no no no

Im Not No Way GIF

Heard this morning a clip from Ken Hinkley saying the Bulldogs should recruit Riley O’Brien at any cost as a backup to Tim English.

Where do we sign that transfer?
Midseason trade period. It's time, AFL.

Let's do this. Do us a ****ing favour, just for once.

Actually now that I've thought about this - what can the AFL do to make this difficult for us? Introduce a rule limiting trading of rucks? Put limits on the number of players on lists over a certain height? Those are actually more likely outcomes.

Would be hesitant to deal with the flogs again , but why isn't Henry Smith getting games at Brisbane

Might be one to look at for that ruck spot
Long term injury I believe.

I actually thought he was out of contract at the end of this season.

and i don't think he's a lock to be best 23 by 2027

Once Tex goes we will reshape the forward line a bit to something closer to what the best teams have. The structure is a bit limited at the moment. We have to kind of work around him

I agree if Keays pace drops he will be out of the side in 27.

The biggest reason they don't do it is because it's seen to be too advantageous for VIC clubs.

They'll find it far easier to convince a player to change clubs midyear than "interstate" clubs will.

And they're absolutely right. It's not "seen to be" at all, it literally is.

Still can't believe we got a 1st round pick for that guy. We then used said pick to draft Ned McHenry. Now let's never speak of it again.

I don't know what we got for Macadam, but who cares? He's still injured and I don't even know whether he has played a game for Melbourne yet.

Do we have a spot available in the mid-season draft? Any interest in Tom Scully from West?
