Well that's it we're cooked.

Lots of talk on the board about list management and players they don't like etc.

So what would people do at the end of the year? What do you think needs to be done?

Atleast for now, signing Astbury, Griffiths, Elton, McDonough and McBean should be a top priority.
Whilst not as much a priority I'd add Dea and McIntosh there. The rest I'm not overly fussed about.

Well its hard to get rid of players who are contracted which is unfortunate.

So from this years crop
Newman and King need to retire
S.Edwards should go a year contract performance based (but will get min 2 years)
A.Edwards and Batch to be delisted
Astbury moved to the rookie list (would have got a contract but for his injury and now needs to be delisted but thats really cruel)
Helbig Dea and McIntosh have to show something to get another year.
Elton, Griff and O'Hanlon all deserve another year (maybe 2 if Griff and Elton keep improving)
Arnot, McBean and Madonna all get two years.

So the 5 spots freed up right there.

You then offer a handful of players for trade and see who bites. Grigg and Vickery head this list possibly Grimes depending on his body and form for the remainder of the year. We can't do much about Foley, Chaplin and Knights (would love him to be injury free) despite needing to be moved on. A few others are borderline like Petterd (a mistake to elevate), Hampson and possibly Morris

Can't see it with Astbury. If his knee is anything like last time it took almost 2 years to recover. With limited game time and loss of more speed i see him ending up like Thursfield. I'd give him a Rookie at best.

Disagree with making him a rookie. Someone would grab him. Been our best KPD this year. Stopped all the monsters which we have never been able to do.

I dont think dusty will stay if we have another year like this one. He'll be out the gate but get him signed ASAP.
Newman, great club servant but time to hang up the boots.
Lids and ellis and grimes are priorities too. Havnt seen dea play much
Grigg, as soon as hes out of contract, get out, stay out.
Chaplin, get rid of him asap.
Pettard (******) NEEDS TO GO ASAP. Hes a half forward who doesnt apply pressure or kick goals and when he doesn its in games we have already won. Get him as far away from yellow and black as possible.
A.edwards. Out
Vickery, never gonna get there. Although, in saying that, knowing richmond, he will be traded to another club and turn into a superstar like shulz.
Shane edwards, has started to lift in the last two weeks, but hes at like 150 games and goes missing all the time? I thinks hes done.
As said up there, arnot, mcbean, mcdonough, etc should get extensions.

I agree he has been brilliant but a hard decision has to be made (unlike we did with foley). His last injury was mid 2012, only now are we starting to see him performing. It'll be 2016 and he'll be 25 before you might begin to see a return again. No team is going to take him with his injuries.

We really don't know how long he will be out for. If he's delisted a club would take him on a freebie, for minimum coin. No one will trade for him though so we may be able to sign him up cheap for 2 years. If he's still struggling then get rid of him. There are way too many guys that need to go before him and even then we can't cut them all.

deserves to be rewarded. two year just above minimum salary. build the culture and stick by our guy.

gone: Foley, Newman, King, Pettard, A.Edwards, Helbig
Trade/bait: S.Edwards, Vickery/ Griff/ Hampson
Play Elton, drop chaplin (depth)

See what Batchelor can do from a HBF along with dea. play vlastuin and madonna up forward with stints in the middle and backline. we need more class up forward too. move lids back, get miles in. shuffle the deck.
Wait and see if knights can get back, think if he cant he'd pull his own pin.

He doesnt, doesnt kick goals, doesnt apply any defensive pressure, doesnt use the ball well. But if hes your mate...
he doesn't play up forward... but i think we should.

this year hurts.

Applying pressure is probably his greatest strength.

Maybe you're watching a different game to me and maybe im not watching properly, but jakey king was a defensive pressure king and managed a goal or two, i even saw bloody nahas lay more tackles and run faster than pettard. If thats his greatest strength, no wonder melbourne didnt want him

He starts as one, hes always in the forward 50 but doesnt do anything. If he plays elsewhere im not sure what he actually does for the team.

Is like to see Batch play up forward in the same role Aaron Edwards play. 190 cm , really good third tall that can apply defensive pressure . We all know he can take a grab.

Have to look at the guy who are out of contract really.

Newman- Retire
King- Retire
A.Edwards- Delisted
Helbig- Delisted (unless he starts to really show something, potential only gets you so far, can't see him in a premiership team at this stage)
Petterd/Foley- Contracted for next season so can we can't delist them can we?

Batchelor- Trade
Sheds- Test the waters see what offers come in for him, otherwise 1 year deal
Dea- 1 year deal
Astbury- 2 year deal, deserves it
Griff- 2-3 years
McIntosh- 1 year
McBean- 2 years
McDonough- 3 years
Arnot- 1 year
Elton- 2 years
O'Hanlon- 1 year

Miles- Elevated
Darrou- Elevated if he can get upgraded and show something
Thomas- Delisted
Williams- Delisted
Banfield- Delisted
Stephenson- Retire

So all in all thats:
-Newman, King, A.Edwards, Helbig delisted (assuming Petterd and Foley are safe)
- Miles, Darrou upgraded
- Batchelor and Vickery Traded

Giving us in the draft
-1st Round
- Vickery pick (20ish)
- 2nd round
-3rd round/Batchelor pick
- 6 new rookies

I like foley, i thought he gave a bit on saturday.

Given Astbury's injury, and Chaplin's age as well as slowing form plus we have no CHF certainty, if Jaksch is good enough prospect wise I think we should make a play.

Could be part of a bigger trader getting other GWS players involving other RFC players or whatever.

Not saying throw the kitchen sink but I think we need to make our list even younger as our leaders in Cotch mature so we will be a real force in the future and so we retain our young talent!

Obviously if we get a pick 6 or whatever you wouldn't trade that for Jaksch,(just crystal balling) but I think a trade involving a combination of picks/players and other clubs makes it possible.

Seriously, some of our older players you would think would have to think about entertaining a move to another Melbourne/VIC club that are in contention. IF RFC could get high draft picks or young players it might be worth a thought.

Here is something insane as a hypothetical.

We trade lids and Reiwoldt to Hawthorn for a younger Gunston, first round and some other compo ie high draft pick or young player from a third party club.

Not saying we should do it but I think players and the club need to think about entertaining all options to enhance their career prospects and success and it that vein RFC list strength is its youth and ideally RFC should be trying to bolster our youthful stocks through the draft or trades when genuinely win win/fair value situations

We missed our opportunity to trade either Lids or Jack to GWS for two first rounders years ago. Good call on Jaksch though but he's a wanted man. If we want to keep our first rounder which we do we are going to have to give something up for him.

I'd see if they want Jackson and a 3rd rounder.

Might as well put Riewoldt on the trade table at seasons end. Clearly our new game style isn't to kick it to a leading forward. Could get a 2nd rounder for him if we are lucky;)

Ha ha, JR is worth more than a second rounder even if just as a genuine forward threat against good defenders.

I am not against trade some of our elder statesman when its is a win win for all but we can't just give players away.

I think a few clubs would be interested in some of our players particularly with Lids being so durable. The question is what do the players want? and secondly is what we could get for them fair and suitable?

Also got to keep in mind the FA menace in the background to!

Really unless quality young players come our way like a Tyson/Gunston or Jaksch combination or other GWS player/pick combo you really wouldn't do it.

With these trades to work the deal needs to work in both the clubs and the players favour!

For example if you where trading to Hawthorn RFC would have to get Gunston because their strength is not there youth. If Hawks let go Gunston they will need a replacement so they might want JR. But then RFC want great youngsters and good draft picks Hawks don't have so other clubs would need to be involved.

Atm for Hawks you would only be looking at first round pick/Hartung and Gunston so for them to get more they would have to trade with other clubs to get us what we would be looking for.

Having said that GWS should rise like GC particularly so senior players to them would be great if it suits. But would players like JR or Lids entertain Sydney?
