This is how our list stands in 2018, before draft/trade period. The second youngest list and 2nd least experienced.

What a find really concerning is that we are ranked last for Goals and Votes (not exactly sure how this statistic is calculated though)

With Roo on Montagna retired our youngsters are really going to have to step up.

Based purely on our list demographic we shouldn't be playing finals next year, which is a complement to our list because we should be there about's.

What supporters need to remember is that our current core still has time, with only 6 best 22 players aged 27+ in 2018. upload_2017-9-30_20-17-53.png

This tells me if we can make finals next year we are going to be up for a long time, which is a good sign.

Need to start getting a few more things right in the coaching and football departments though. That's where you seem to win flags these days.

Agree 100% need to get at least 1 more new coach into the club. Players are still young and have time to learn.

Having such a young list probably makes it difficult for the players to change game style at the flick of a switch. Who knows Richo might be trying to change things up but the players cant implement the changes cohesively.

Bang on.
We are in the development phase.
Don't panic.
Having been a Saint supporter for decades, I do get a bit tired of the old "development" word being dusted off when the club has a poor season.
I can only hope that there is some drastic change in how things are done by next season, as all those development seasons over the years have resulted in no second premiership.

So that proves your idea of sacking the coach doesn't work. On the age and games profile I think it shows bugger all. WB won last year with both being low, tigers won this year being middle of the road. Hawks are top so they came lower than middle. All I read into it is we got rid of our most experienced 3 players so now we are younger

It's going to be a different side next year. We really need some big lifts in output from our mid tier players now. Rooey was still in our top few goal kickers and Montagna and him were both still top 10 players at the club. I hope Armo can get back, his leadership and age make him valuable.

The team that lost at the death at Adelaide Oval had an average age of under 24 and around 76 games played. The PA side that day was close to 26 years old on average and 115 games played.

And that team kept coming and kept coming, only making a complete ballsup of the last 2 minutes.

2018 smells like a poor man's 2004 to me.

We have about 6 players who can/will break the 50 game mark next year, with Membrey on 50 games and others like Webster, Dunstan, Longer and Billings with 60 odd games.
Not to mention were well placed with pick 7 & 8 in this years draft.

If it doesn't happen next year (big jump into finals contenders) then I have no doubt it'll definitely happen in 2019. We already have the core group that will lead us there, even if most posters on here think we don't have enough "A-Grade" talent.

I wouldn’t say we had a poor season . We did step one which was comfortably beat the sides below us which is something we have struggled with for years . We also had a couple of top wins with good wins against the Giants, Tigers where we played the best half of any club in the league, and almost beat Port on the road , and we beat the Hawks where they usually win in tassie .

Yes we struggled against some of the better sides but we are improving. Other sides are as well like Melbourne and Essendon which has opened up the top eight for the first time in years . We still have to do better but I feel with our improvement coming from within and maybe some outside picks , we should improve next season too . I don’t think we will make top four but then how many people thought Richmond would and go on to win it as well .

The only people who thought the Tigers might win the lot were a few diehard supporters and not many of those , at the start of the year . Remember they came 13th last year . The dogs won from 7 th the year before so it just shows these days you just have to make the finals to give yourself a chance these days.

And you know what they say about the Giants , a Champion team will always beat a team of champions . And we beat them this year as well as the eventual premiers .
