I Try

Polls, changes and fears
When will they go from here
When will they stop
I believe that fate has brought us here
And we should be together
But we're not
I play it off but I'm dreamin of you
I'll keep it cool but I'm fiendin.
I try to say goodbye and I choke
I try to walk away and I stumble
Though I try to hide it it's clear
My world crumbles when you are not near

Goodbye and I choke
I try to walk away and I stumble
Though I try to hide it, it's clear
My world crumbles when you are not near

I may appear to be free
But I'm just a prisoner of your love
I may seem alright and smile when you leave
But my smiles are just a front
I play it off but I'm dreamin of you
I'll keep my cool but I'm fiendin
I try to say goodbye and I choke
I try to walk away and I stumble
Though I try to hide it it's clear
My world crumbles when you are not near

Here is my confession
May I be your PM forever
Boy I need your votes
Your best wishes and dollar notes
With all my might I try
But this I can't deny
I play it off but im dreamin of you
I'll keep my cool but I'm fiendin
I try to say good bye and I choke
I try to walk away and I stumble
Though I try to hide it it's clear
My world crumbles when you are not near

The greatest PM/Treasurer love story of all time

Chorus:
Our love is alive and so we begin
Foolishly layin' our hearts on the table, stumblin' in
Our love is a flame burnin' within
Now and then fire light will catch us, stumblin' in

JOHN:
Wherever you go, whatever you do
You know these reckless thoughts of mine are followin' you

PETE:
I've fallen for you, whatever you do
'Cause Johnny you've shown me so many things that I never knew

Whatever it takes, Johnny, I'll do it for you

(Chorus)

JOHN:
You were so young, ah, but I was so free

PETE:
I may have been young but Johnny, that's not what I wanted to be

JOHN:
Well you were the one

PETE:
Oh why was it me?

JOHN:
'Cause Peter you've shown me so many things that I'd never seen

Whatever you need, Peter, you got it from me

(Chorus)

PETE:
Ah, stumblin' in, mmm, stumblin' in

Now and then fire light will catch us, stumblin' in

JOHN:
Oh, stumblin' in, I'm stumblin' in

Foolishly layin' our hearts on the table, stumblin' in

When I'm Sixty-Eight

When I get older losing my hair
not too many days from now
will you still be sending me a valentine
birthday greeting, bottle of wine

If I'd been out till quarter to three
would you lock the gate
Will you still need me
Will you still feed me
When I'm sixty-eight

You'll be older too
And if you say the word
I could stay with you

I could be handy mending a fuse
when your light have gone
You can knit a sweater by the fireside
Sunday mornings, go for a ride

Doing the garden, digging the weeds
Who could ask for a better mate
Will you still need me
Will you still feed me
When I'm sixty-eight

Every summer we can rent a cottage on the
old Sydney Harbour front, if it's not too dear
We shall scrimp and save
Grandchildren on your knee
Vera, Chuck, and Dave

Send me a postcard, drop me a line
stating point of view
indicate precisely what you mean to say
yours sincerely wasting away

Give me your answer fill in a voting form
mine forever your great mate
Will you still need me
Will you still feed me
When I'm sixty-eight

The unofficial John Winston Howard MySpace page has many "friends" but a quick scroll through the birthday messages shows that most people want to blow raspberries on the day the PM blows out his candles.

Nadia, 14, suggested he "just god damn retire!"

Toni, 15, advised him to "have a complete and utter crap birthday, man, you totally deserve it, by the way ... shouldn't you have karked it already?"

Still, not everybody was being so unkind.

Steph Clews, a 22-year-old graphic designer and car enthusiast from Wollongong, NSW, offered the PM heartfelt birthday wishes.

"I just like spreading cheer and wishing people happy birthday when they deserve it," she said

Ms Clews said she would vote Liberal at the election because Mr Rudd did not have the experience and "change isn't always good".

There's talk on the street; it sounds so familiar
Great expectations, everybody's watching me
People I meet, they all seem to know me
Even my old friends treat me like I'm something new

I'm Johnny come lately, the new kid in town
Everybody loves me, so I won't let them down

I look in their eyes; the music begins to play
Hopeless romantics, here we go again
But after awhile, you're lookin' the other way
It's those restless hearts that never mend

I'm Johnny come lately, the new kid in town
Will they still love me when I'm not around?
There's so many things I should have told them,
but night after night I was willing to hold them,
Just hold them, tears on my shoulder

There's talk on the street, it's there to
Remind me, that it doesn't really matter
which side you're on.
They're walking away and talking behind me
They will never forget me 'til somebody new comes along

Now

Where you been lately? There's a new kid in town
Everybody loves him, don't they?
Now he's holding them, and I'm still around
Oh, my, my
There's a new kid in town
Ooh, hoo
Everybody's talking 'bout the new kid in town
Ooh, hoo
Everybody's walking' like the new kid in town
There's a new kid in town
There's a new kid in town
I don't want to hear it
There's a new kid in town
I don't want to hear it
There's a new kid in town
There's a new kid in town
There's a new kid in town
