I nearly choked on my beer when i was reading in last weekend's footy record that Freo will be holding a testimonial for that big ol stalwart of theirs, Shaun Mcmanus ... (hosted by that irritating cousin of his, Rove)
Um last time I checked, Testimonials were resereved for champion players nearing the end. Since when has McManus been considered in that class.
McManus would just about have to be in my top ten worst players I've ever seen (who have played over 100 games)
Seriously, you may as well hold testimonials for Aaron Henneman, Ian Prendergast and Jason Cloke.
I guess Freo have to clutch at straws, considering they have produced so few 'champions' in their history.

IF they can hold a testimonial for a player with so little talent and class as McManus, then that club has serious problems.

Nothing wrong with it. Just like nothing wrong with Shane Woewodin doing a lap of honour on Monday. Just awkward.

Worst player ever. The kind of head opposition players wanna bash in.

Cheap shot, McManus has been there since 95 and withstood 2 knee reconstructions, he's been a great servant and no doubt would have had more impact if not for his knee, thing is he's still playing decent football. The only thing I agree with you on is Rove, he's a :D:D:D:Dhead

Deserves one more then Anthony "1 million for sitting on my ass" Koutafides, hell McManus wud be in ur top 3 in the best and fairest if he played for ur lot.

A team who classified Ryan Houlihan as one of their starting midfielders shud not be making fun of any player

Celtic pride you last 11 years in the AFL system and play 200 games.

He may not be the most skilled guy out there but he has a big big heart.

Cheap Shot. Pal.

Has been a very loyal player and a Club leader. Sure he may not be a champion but that in no way diminishes his standing at the Club.

Most opposition supporters, even if they only had a slight understand of the concept of sportsmanship, would refrain from a post that is such trash.:thumbsd:

By the looks of things, that has happened a few times. ;)

I don't think there's much wrong with it. He played through the difficult times, and what he lacks in skill he makes up for in heart. An honest workhorse who will always be popular with the fans.

he has a hot wife. I mean very hot.

How the **** do ugly people end up with such beautiful sposes.

---> Its not as if shes with him because of his football talent.

He mightn't be the most skillful player going around, but you can't question his heart and commitment. He's built a career on the back of it.

What a shocking thread. :thumbsd:

McManus has been at Freo since the beginning, undergone two? knee reconstructions and has been a club captain and played 200 games.

If you actually watch this bloke there are few in the AFL who go in harder at the ball and give everything they can give

A true clubman and very deserving of a testimonial IMO. :thumbsu:

Agreed. :)

commitment and long service aside...his football ability is pretty average. not a champion player and never will be...just a war horse....with a face that looks like a bashed crab...his cousin rove his only claim to fame;)

Re: LOL Shaun McManus Testimonial

Paid up for me and the missus to attend Maccas Testimonial. Would not miss it for quids. Happily pay the dosh to celebrate the career of a true footballer. I expect the Burswood to be coloured in Purple on the 18th of June. I also hope a Testimonial is in the wind for Shane Parker in the not too distant future.:thumbsu:

To dmc333, wazzabp, Keithy, Milkman, FU, Monocle and Pat. We at Freo appreciate the support. Thanks.

No one has ever declared Macca a champion footballer or one that is highly skilled. However, no one has worked harder (esp after two knee recos) and I don't think I've seen anyone at Freo put their body on the line and take serious hits as much as Shaun.

Even this pre-season, he worked as hard as anyone to improve his skills.

All clubs need their battlers. Freo probably more than most.

think of sending him some flowers and a thank u card instead? will ben allen b there? add clive waterhouse and we can have a hair off...

I don't see whats wrong with rewarding a player for dedicated service to the club. Perhaps the AFL can pay for Carlton to throw one for Kouta.
Nice one. :D

Every Club is entitled to list one player with 10 or more year club service as a 'testimonal' player when it is known they are playing their last year. Part of the bonus of that is a section of their salary is not counted under the salary cap. To be eligible for that they must do certain things/events to show it is a real testimonial year and advise the AFL what they are. Sometimes clubs hold testimonial dinners, other times the player is the special guest at a regular luncheon or dinner or the likes.

Interesting that the thread starter is a gutless club switcher.

McManus is certainly no legend, but the fact remains has more 'pride' than celtic_pride could ever dream of.
