Tommy is in an induced coma at the moment.....a further operation is expected very soon this week. In more positive news, the doctors believe he will make a full reovery.

This is terrible :( Get well soon buddy!

Its a terrible injury, and I feel for the poor guy ... however is it being blown out of perspective in regards to his retirement???

Every player in the AFL only has 1 heart, 1 spinal chord, 1 neck ... and injury to these will result in either sudden death or a lifetime in a wheelchair.

Each and every player knows the consequences of playing Australian Football, but they still choose to put their body through exceptional punishment 'for the love of the game'

I wouldn't be writing Lonners' career off at this stage ...

At least that's one bit of good news.

from this article "They got a neurology expert and a general surgeon involved"

Why would they involve a neurology expert(ie brain specialist) rather than urology expert (urinary tract and kidney expert)? unless, of course the abc editors brains are in their pants!

I'm numb after reading that. Injuries like that and seeing things at the football like paramedics trying to revive someone in the Doug Wade stand at half-time of the West Coast game certainly put things in perspective.

A neurologist is a nerve specialist.

Amazing that the human body can continue to function with such reduced renal capacity. Good luck Tom, the Goulburn Valley is keeping its fingers crossed for you!

Aww poor guy.
Hope he recovers well comes back and kicks ass! :D
Stupid arseh*le channel ten commentators though, I hope they feel bad now after telling him to hurry up and get off the ground.

I think it was Steven Quartermain and he said something like he needs to hurry up and get off, it's time wasting. Something like that, I watched the delayed telecast when I got home, so I didn't even know what was happening with Lonergan but I still thought what they said was a bit harsh.

Time wasting????
How is being injured and being in the hands of the trainers time wasting???

Anyway, im sure he feels like a right ****head for saying that.

Pfft I don't know if he said time wasting exactly, but what he said was quite harsh and I'm sure he feels stupid now.

I'm pretty sure it was the blond haired guy who used to play for Collingwood. Name's on the tip of my tongue but can't quite get it...

Sorry to hear what happened to Tom and hope he progresses well.

It goes to show these guys are brave putting their bodies on the line no matter how much the game has been 'cleaned up'.

yeah it was Michael Christian. It was a bit insensitive, but even our doctors didn't know the severity of the injury, let alone Chrisso. He's a pretty decent guy, so it would have been simple ignorance of the true circumstances.

Don't need to get angry. They didnt no he had a screwed up kidney, im sure if they could have it back and they knew what was wrong they wouldnt have said it. Just relax a little.

Lets hope he makes a speedy recovery. Remember reading that in his first snr game for Yarrawonga at age 16 he had kicked 5 or 6 goals and then suffered a ruptured kidney. The same one that he hurt again on the weekend.

All the best Tommy, as Bomber said, "We learn't more about Tom today than in the previous 4 years."

Absoulutly couragous effort which was inspiring to watch. Put his body on the line for the team when needed and paid the price. His team mates and club owe him big time.

Nice to see the out pouring of support for Tom given that not 10 days ago most people were asking for him to be delisted.

Such fickle supporters on this board
