And what a sad day it was too!
I've been by myself once, and i hated it. I need somebody to talk to, and you feel like you goose if your by yourself and you just start screaming or talking to yourself. Atleast if someones with you, it looks like your talking to them.

Just out of curiosity - why do you "need" someone to talk to?

If you're screaming with someone you know sitting next to you -how does that make you feel less of a goose? Is it more "acceptable" in your eyes to scream with company? If so, why? I dont see the act of screaming different just b/c you are in company. You are screaming AT the football match, not at an act which the person you are with is directly involved in - so whether you are in company or on your own - you are still screaming at the same thing.

Confused yet?

I have no idea, but if you've got someone screaming next to you, i guess your not the only one looking like a goose?

I need someone to talk to because i get lonely? aww..;)

You are already on my ignore list because of your sarcastic comments about what I posted. Hoggy you are the biggest tool going around

used to go all the time by myself particularly StKilda i really think i'm the only one who bothered to go anymore after Waverley. Had a big group at Waverley Park then never saw them again at Colonial  It's more fun goin with ppl but on your own with footy being the way it is you always meet someone.

You just don't get it do you Suzi?

When people say ignore list, they actually mean a list where people cannot see your posts, not at all NOTHING.

Not looking at a persons post, and going oh my .. its Hoggy.. I am going to IGNORE (pretend) that post!

Just a question Suzi .. How old are you? Because my 8 year old sister talks just like you ...

I hate going on my own. Absolutely hate it.

Ever since I knew I had been going to the football with my Grandfather. I used to love going to Victoria Park with him and would take in the experience as much as I can.

As I got older playing committments meant we didn't go together as much. Still I always had to go with someone and would even tag along with my mates to Carlton games just so I wouldn't be on my own.

This year my Grandfather has not been to a match but I will always sit with him on a Friday night and watch the televised match to revisit some old days.

I knew you were a closet Carlton fan. I just knew it! :D

But I agree with you on going to the football alone. I hate it too. I never go alone.

If your team was playing and you had nobody to go with, would you still go?

I probably would still go. Because there are always the same people there you sit near every week. But the situation would never arise. All my family go to the football everyweek, so there is always someone to go with.

HELP?

I dont mind being alone at the footy.

I dont consider myself alone anyway, I surrounded by Swans Fans, that all hold that same interest as me, so it isnt hard to get a conversation up if you are really in the need for one.

But I am there purely and simple to watch the footy.

For the Essendon match I didnt get hope til around 1am, because of the 3 hour train trip home!!

Today I am a MAN! I have made suzi's ignore list.

Me thinks I will get a reply because she doesn't know what the ignore list is for.

But whats wrong with being on your own?

Havent been on my own lately no - but thats because I now have an over-abundance of people to go with.

When I was living in Brisbane - If I wanted to see a match I happily went on my own and that included non Hawthorn matches. Pre moving to Qld - there were many matches where I'd drive 3 hours down on my own, sit through the match on my own and drive 3 hours home on my own - to watch my club and I cant say I ever got lonely or bored.

HELP?

I have always thought of football as a experience with your family and friends.

I always thought the purpose of going to the football was to WATCH a match.

It is the purpose, but not the sole purpose. Sharing it with your friends and family make it so much more special.

One of my favorite memories in my life was sharing the 1990 premiership with my Grandfather and brother. Walking out of the ground with him and seeing the expression in his face was one of the most pure experiences in my life.

Of course the enjoyment of the experience is enhanced by being able to share it with someone else - I dont doubt that one bit, most experiences are - hence why humans will always seek out others in life. What I am questioning is how loneliness can be a factor when you are there to watch the match. Why are you interested in footy if you cant you enjoy it in its "purest" form - the game and yourself?
