And what a sad day it was too!
I've been by myself once, and i hated it. I need somebody to talk to, and you feel like you goose if your by yourself and you just start screaming or talking to yourself. Atleast if someones with you, it looks like your talking to them.

Just out of curiosity - why do you "need" someone to talk to?
If you're screaming with someone you know sitting next to you -how does that make you feel less of a goose? Is it more "acceptable" in your eyes to scream with company? If so, why? I dont see the act of screaming different just b/c you are in company. You are screaming AT the football match, not at an act which the person you are with is directly involved in - so whether you are in company or on your own - you are still screaming at the same thing.
Confused yet?

If your team was playing and you had nobody to go with, would you still go?

I always thought the purpose of going to the football was to WATCH a match.

It is the purpose, but not the sole purpose. Sharing it with your friends and family make it so much more special.
One of my favorite memories in my life was sharing the 1990 premiership with my Grandfather and brother. Walking out of the ground with him and seeing the expression in his face was one of the most pure experiences in my life.
