losing on a protest

well it had to happen to me at some stage

whats the most you have lost or won due to a protest being upheld or dismissed i tell you one thing it is bloody nerve racking

There was a race at Rosehill, late in 2005, where Lord Of The Land with Kanichiro Fujii on top lined up at 4.50 or so. There were some other decent horses in the field, like Evasion who was a decent Saturday stayer. I'd had an absolute shocker of a day, so as a get out stakes I put a good 400 bucks on Lord Of The Land. It was 1st past the post but had shifted out causing interference to Evasion, and subsequently the protest was upheld.

To this day I still argue with it, Lord Of The Land had come from 3 lengths behind Evasion to pass it and have it convincingly beaten, but then shifted out a bit...the protest was upheld, so the stewards were basically ruling that had Lord of the Land not shifted out, Evasion would have fought back in the final 100m, making up the half length gap that LOTL had established, to beat it? How can stewards rule on that, it was purely speculative, complete guesswork.

Cant remember the name of the race but it was the biggest Moonee Valley night race during the spring a couple of years ago.

As a 17 year old I outlayed pretty much my weekly wage on Spinney to win @ $2. Got up with what I thought was a convincing win only to have a protest upheld 2nd vs. 1st. I think the eventual winner was Pavlova.
