Just looked at the TV Guide for tonight.

TPTB at Ch9 have decided that the British Open (Golf) is more important than the AFL, so the Adelaide vs North has been scheduled for 5AM-8AM tomorrow morning.

Given that NOBODY watches the Golf (hence the reason they sold the US Open to Foxtel), one wonders what d1psh1t made this programming decision.

Those who live in AFL states (south or west of the Murray) aren't affected, but those of us with the misfortune to life north of the Murray are being royally sc3w3d.

I sympathise,in Perth its absolutely appalling unless its the weagles or dorkers you are lucky to get any live games, and on the radio if they are broadcasting a game from melb. and a game in perth starts they will cut to the perth game which is frustrating.

It's not live into Melbourne either. Frasier is on instead.

Not as bad as you've got it, but its still on 1 hour delay. I thought all Friday night interstate games were live into Melbourne? :thumbsd:

On 1 hour delay into Melbourne? The game starts at 8:10pm Adelaide time, which equates to 8:40pm Melbourne time. Surely they're not starting the replay at 9:30pm?

At least I can listen to it on the radio. Will have to tape it - hoping and praying that Ch9 stick to their published programme (and we all know what the likelihood of that is). I'll be lucky to see more than half the game.

I'm pretty sure it is on live into Melbourne. Are you considering the 30 minute time difference between the two states?
I was this angry when FNF was in Adelaide against Essendon and then I realised the game actually was live.

Hmm I'm just going by The Age. Says 7:40pm start time, 8:30 on ch9.

Oops yes The Age is wrong. How hard is it for these people to get their facts right before they publish a paper? AFC site says game starts at 8:40pm AEST.

:o

North Melbourne are starting at 7.40pm. We'll run out at 8.40pm.

Adelaide by 15 points.

Friday night games live

Herald Sun said:
FRIDAY night football, already the AFL's prime-time fixture, will become even bigger next season with the live telecast of games in Melbourne.

The AFL and Channel 7 plan to trial games live against the gate as part of the new television rights deal.

AFL chief operating officer Ben Buckley said last night the league was happy to show the Friday night games live into Melbourne. The games now kick off at 7.40pm, but are on about a 60-minute delay.

Buckley said he did not expect the live television coverage to reduce crowds at the MCG or Telstra Dome.

``We think the quality of games on Friday nights are strong enough to handle live against the gate if that was to be the case,'' he said.

``And we think the strength of the schedule of Friday night games would not affect the gates to any great degree.''

Buckley said televising Friday night games on delay had worked well, but the AFL believed there was potential for crowds and gate receipts not be affected by the TV coverage.

He said the live games would benefit both the AFL and Channel7.

``We think it also has the possibility of increasing ratings as live sports tends to generate greater ratings than sports shown on delay,'' Buckley said.

``So hopefully we will have a situation that works for everyone.''

Seven Melbourne boss Ian Johnson said last night his network had been asked, along with the 16 clubs, to put in its ``wish list'' for next year's home and away season.

He said the live telecast of Friday night games was something the network had discussed and also believed would not reduce crowds.

``All my TV life I've always had the opinion that it won't impact on the gate,'' he said.

Johnson said showing Friday night games on delay had been extremely successful and the network had to consider whether it was worth tampering with a successful product.

``We are certainly considering all that before making a decision,'' he said.

Seven would also have to consider the effect live Friday night football would have on Better Homes And Gardens, which is a ratings success in the 7.30pm timeslot.

Under the current free-to-air television deal, Channel9 shows Friday night games on delay and Sunday games played interstate are shown live into Melbourne, but local games are generally on delay.

Channel10 televises Saturday night games played in Melbourne on delay.

Hopefully it's live into South Australia (country area as well) as well on a Friday night next year

I am sorry but if you do not live in the state of the club you support you need to get Fox Footy. I cannot see it changing anytime soon either.

Well I did have it when I lived in Canberra Crows98, but they are still not allowed to show some games even when they were not shown on the FTA stations live. This especially related to stupid channel 9 and the Friday night games. Even though channel 9 would make the choice to show the rugby instead they still would not allow Fox Footy to show it until much later at night.

Even Channel 10 had no respect for the NSW/ACT audience - they advertised that all finals would be shown live and yet there was a half hour delay in finals in 2002 which I discovered by my sister phoning me and letting me know what the scores were going to be at the end of each quarter as I watched the start of those quarters on their "live" telecast. :P

Things just got worse and worse for the coverage of this game.

Given that I don't have foxtel and Ch9 weren't showing it until 5am, I opted to listen to it on the radio.

All was going well, until 11pm. At that time, without warning the ABC went directly into their news service followed by some awful music show (featuring the "talents" of Bobby Darin). All this, with the game still in progress, half way through the final quarter. Massive brick-bats to ABC 666 in Canberra.

In the end, I did get to see the game. For possibly the first time this year, Ch9 started their broadcast at the scheduled time (5am) and I was able to tape it for viewing on Saturday afternoon.
