very hard choice........... i will wont both of them forever., and we will have them forever. They are both guns!

At the moment i think that they are neck and neck with their respective abilities on the football field, however i do beleive Ball exudes more leadership qualities Dal Santo.

However, having said that i believe that Reiwoldt should captain the side next year. He is currently ahead of both of them (not for long) and will be unstoppable next year, whereas Ball should reach a Reiwoldt like level in 2006 and as such should captain the side then.

Ball easily, Del Santo is nothing but a soft receiver who looks good in a good team.[/QUOTE]

Firstly it is DAL Santo, and secondly, you are a joke if you honestly believe that Dal is a soft reciever who looks good in a good team. He earns every single one of his possesions. And is far far from a soft player.

He's just pulling your chain, Snickers, you don't have to reply to every sad individual who get their thrills by pathetic attempts at trolling.

Just laugh at them and hope that they find the attention they crave in some other forum.

:D - I will just do this next time.

I really hate trolls (some of them are ok, others just go over the top though).

Whats the verdict guys?

1 and a few bit years on..

I'm going for Ball still, he is a freak.

I couldn't live without either. Amazing when Dal stops in a pack and 'Matrix style' moves through opponents without looking like he's trying.

Ball is tough as hell. Absolute gun! There's only ONE Luke Ball!

Ball's ability to win the ball at ground level is sensational, while Dal Santo is as well skilled and composed as anyone else in the competition.

Tough decision, but I'd take Dal Santo... just

At his best, I'd take Bally over Dal.

They're both freaks, but Dal does tend to go missing occasionally, while Bally always contributes in one way or another. If he doesn't get alot of the ball, he'll lay 15 tackles and kick two goals, whereas often Dally just goes about it, gathers 17-18 possessions in a couple of ok quarters, but with no real impact on the game.

That said, they're both capeable of getting 35 possessions, 10 marks, 15 tackles and 3 goals in a game.

I'd say Dal Santo gets more of the ball where as Luke Ball tends to get around the 20-25 mark. Dal Santo is capable of gathering the 30 possie mark. Both are not noted goal kickers but because of their ability to set up goals, this isnt a huge negative point.

Both at their best I'd say Ball would gather something like 25 possies, 8 marks and 8 tackles. Nick about 30 possies, 7 marks and 5 tackles.

In saying that Luke Ball would be my preference.

St Kilda are remarkably fortunate to have both.

The Saints have made a concerted effort to surround these stars with a group of players the same age. This was done to engineer a squad similar to the early WCE and later the Brisbane squads. These teams won multiple premierships with a squad of players that "grew up" together.

Look at the group that the Saints have gathered:

Our 20-22yo group (as at 01/01/06):

  [COLOR="red"]Clarke, Raphael[/COLOR]        17 20 24 Sep 1985 188cm 82kg St Mary's Defender
This group contains established players; Nick Dal Santo, Luke Ball, Matthew Maguire, Brendan Goddard, Xavier Clarke, good players like Jason Gram, Leigh Montagna and Raph Clarke, and fringe players like Leigh Fisher, Matthew Ferguson, Mark McGough, Dylan Pfitzner

This group was recruited after Kosi and Nick were recruited to form our spine.

Obviously the challenge is to build a team around these guys so that we can sustain our successful era.

Our 19yo and under group (as at 01/01/06):

Code:
  McQualter, Andrew       7 19 09 Jun 1986 179cm 79kg Gippsland Power Midfield
  [COLOR="red"]Gwilt, James[/COLOR]            3 19 11 Aug 1986 188cm 88kg Noble Park Utility
  Sam Gilbert             0 19 19 Aug 1986 194cm 82kg Southport Defender
  [COLOR="red"]McDonnell, Edward[/COLOR] (R)   0 18 30 Dec 1986 192cm 87kg Western Magpies Utility
  Raymond, Phillip        0 18 24 Jun 1987 186cm 69kg Glenelg Forward
  Corr, Cathal (R)        0 18 01 Nov 1987 182cm 82kg Northern Knights Utility
  Justin Sweeney          0 18 25 Dec 1987 186cm 87kg Tyabb Forward

This group has two players that we've already seen in Andrew McQualter and Jimmy Gwilt and a number of highly promising developing players.

The first of these to get a game is Sam Gilbert who debuted last week.

We have a group of aging players as well.
We expect several retirements at the end of the year and will again recruit youth in 2006 National Draft.

We are going to be around for a while yet.

Amen to that brother.

Trying to decide who is better is very difficult as they are very different players.

For sheer ball winning ability, at his best would be Ball, one of the best in and under player in the League. As midfielder who can create opportunities Dal Santo is extremely valuable.

WHo is better? Who is more valuable?

Dont know but glad they are both in red, white, and black.

If you weigh everything together, you would see Luke Ball in front IMO.

Skill, toughness, leadership, speed etc.

Yeah, probably correct, except mabye for speed NDS is much quicker than he looks.

Depends on what you want from the midfield.

If a team had a group of NDS's they wouldn't win the ball as much and therefore would be able to create and deliver with the same flair. Conversely if you had a midfield full of Luke Ball's well you would win plenty of the in and under ball, however the next poseession would be as polished.

Overall Ball was chosen No2 behind Hodge and NDS was picked No.13. NDS was mabye left too long, but you wouldn't argue that Luke Ball was a top five pick.
